Great dog park! So many different trails to wander thru in the midst of all the trees. There are also several paths out of the wooded section. Plus they have a very big open grasses area for dogs to run and play together.

Its strategic position within a larger forest preserve means that visitors benefit from well-maintained roads and clear signage, ensuring a smooth journey to the park.

Accessing this exceptional dog park requires a permit, which is a common practice for well-managed off-leash areas within the Lake County Forest Preserves system. This permit system helps ensure that all dogs using the park are vaccinated and that owners are aware of and adhere to park rules, contributing to a safer and more enjoyable environment for everyone. Ample parking is available at the front entrance, accommodating a large number of visitors, even during peak hours, which can be particularly busy on weekends. As a public facility managed by the Lake County Forest Preserves, the Lakewood Off-Leash Dog Area does not typically offer traditional commercial promotions or discounts like a retail business. Instead, its "promotion" comes in the form of its excellent value through the permit system. To access this fantastic 66-acre park, an annual or daily permit is required. These permits are structured to offer significant value, particularly for frequent users.

An annual permit provides unlimited access not just to Lakewood, but to all five designated off-leash dog areas within the Lake County Forest Preserves system. This means dog owners get access to multiple top-quality facilities across the county for a single, yearly fee, which is a considerable "special offer" in itself for active dog families in Illinois. Daily permits are also available for those visiting less frequently or wanting to try the park before committing to an annual pass. These can often be purchased on-site via mobile payment systems for convenience. Lake County residents typically benefit from lower permit fees compared to non-residents, further enhancing the local value proposition. The sustained high quality of the park's features and amenities, year after year, represents the ongoing "promotion" that keeps locals coming back.

Love this place in all seasons! Lunch time on weekends can get quite busy. Also many reports of purses stolen etc, keep your valuables with you or at home. The woods and the new area to the far left are our favorite places.

My family's favorite dog park among 5 lake county dog parks!! We visited this park at least once a week for the past year and a half. The park is beautiful every season as you can see in the photos. It has a vast field, and shaded path in the wood area, so you can choose your path according to the weather. You can design your walk from minutes to hours as there are countless combinations. Of course you can meet so many nice dogs and people along the way. We never found a tick on our dog when we visited this park so far, and we know that's a huge thumbs up for some people. The only downside of Lakewood dog park is that this park doesn't have a water area. If your dog is a swimmer, We'd recommend Independence dog park or Prairie Woolf.
