My go-to dog park in Norfolk. It's quiet, spacious, you rarely if ever will see dog poop in the main area. Every owner and dog I've come across (some familiar faces too) are kind, and I'm never afraid something will happen to my dog or myself. Def check it out, there always will be a dog or two!

Welcome to Lafayette Dog Park
Virginia is a beautiful state, and for many residents, their furry companions are an integral part of their lives. Finding safe, engaging, and welcoming spaces for dogs to run, play, and socialize is a top priority. In Norfolk, Virginia, one such gem stands out: Lafayette Dog Park. This highly-regarded off-leash facility offers a fantastic environment for dogs of all sizes to enjoy the outdoors, interact with other canines, and burn off some energy, all while their owners can relax and connect with fellow pet enthusiasts.
Lafayette Dog Park has become a beloved destination for local dog owners, frequently praised for its friendly atmosphere and well-maintained grounds. It’s more than just a fenced-in area; it’s a community hub where dogs can thrive and owners can enjoy peace of mind knowing their pets are in a safe and monitored environment. The park's commitment to providing a clean and enjoyable space for Norfolk's canine population is evident in the positive feedback from its regular visitors. Many have expressed how it has become their "go-to" spot, highlighting the pleasant interactions between both dogs and their human companions. It's a place where you'll often see familiar faces, creating a sense of camaraderie among the dog-loving community.
Lafayette Dog Park is conveniently located in the heart of Norfolk, making it easily accessible for residents across the city and surrounding areas. You can find this welcoming haven for dogs at:
Dog Park, Orleans Cir, Norfolk, VA 23509, USA
The park boasts excellent accessibility for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Ample street parking is generally available nearby, ensuring a hassle-free visit for those driving to the park. Its central location also means it’s often just a short drive from many Norfolk neighborhoods. The park is open from 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM, seven days a week, offering broad hours for residents to fit a visit into their busy schedules, whether it's an early morning romp or an evening playtime session. This consistent availability ensures that you and your dog can enjoy the park at your convenience, making it a reliable option for daily exercise and socialization.
Lafayette Dog Park is designed to cater to the essential needs of an off-leash dog park experience, focusing on providing a safe and stimulating environment. While it emphasizes fundamental offerings, visitors should be aware of certain amenities to plan their visit accordingly.
- Fully Fenced Off-Leash Area: The park provides a secure, fully enclosed space where dogs can run freely and safely without the need for a leash. This ensures peace of mind for owners and maximum freedom for their pets.
- Agility Equipment: For the more active and adventurous canines, Lafayette Dog Park offers various agility obstacles. These features provide mental and physical stimulation, encouraging dogs to jump, weave, and climb, enhancing their coordination and burning off excess energy in a fun way.
- Shaded Seating Areas: Recognizing that human companions also need a comfortable spot to rest, the park provides shaded seating areas. These benches and shaded spots allow owners to relax, observe their dogs, and socialize with other dog parents while staying out of the direct sun.
- Community Atmosphere: While not a physical "service," the park is renowned for its friendly and watchful community of dog owners. This creates a supportive environment where owners look out for each other's dogs and foster positive interactions.
- Free Entry: Lafayette Dog Park is open to the public without any admission fees, making it an accessible and budget-friendly option for all dog owners in the Norfolk area.
It's important for visitors to note that while the park offers these fantastic services, it does not currently provide on-site water fountains for dogs, separate areas for small and large dogs, or amenities such as on-site toilets or safety kits. Therefore, dog owners are encouraged to bring their own water and bowls for their pets, and to be mindful of the varied sizes of dogs present in the single off-leash area. Poop bags are also not consistently available, so bringing your own for responsible cleanup is essential to maintaining the park’s cleanliness.
Lafayette Dog Park distinguishes itself through several key features that contribute to its popularity and positive reputation among Norfolk's dog owners. These highlights make it a truly enjoyable and beneficial place for both pets and their human companions.
- Spacious Open Field: The park boasts a generous open field area, providing ample space for dogs to run, play fetch, and engage in vigorous exercise. This expansive environment is perfect for dogs who love to sprint and explore, offering more than enough room to stretch their legs and truly enjoy being off-leash. Many visitors commend the lack of clutter and the clean, expansive main area, allowing for unrestricted play.
- Beautiful Water Views: One of the park's most scenic highlights is its proximity to the water. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views, adding a tranquil and picturesque backdrop to their dog's playtime. This aesthetic appeal enhances the overall experience, making it not just a dog park but also a pleasant natural retreat. As one visitor noted, "The view right by the water is beautiful as well."
- Cleanliness and Maintenance: Regular visitors consistently praise the park's cleanliness. The commitment of fellow dog owners to pick up after their pets means that you "rarely if ever will see dog poop in the main area," contributing to a pleasant and hygienic environment for all. This level of owner responsibility is a significant highlight and speaks volumes about the community that uses the park.
- Friendly and Responsible Community: Perhaps one of the most significant highlights is the welcoming and responsible community of dog owners who frequent Lafayette Dog Park. Visitors consistently report positive interactions, noting that "every owner and dog I've come across (some familiar faces too) are kind," and that they "never afraid something will happen to my dog or myself." This communal spirit ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. New visitors, like those with their pup Max, find the other dog parents "awesome too—so friendly and watchful over their own if they started to get rowdy."
- Consistent Dog Presence: For those looking for socialization opportunities for their dogs, Lafayette Dog Park rarely disappoints. It's known for having "always will be a dog or two," ensuring that your dog will likely have canine companions to interact with, fostering healthy socialization skills.
These features collectively create a dog park experience that goes beyond mere functionality, fostering a sense of community and providing a truly enjoyable outdoor space for Norfolk's dogs and their owners.
As a free public amenity provided by the City of Norfolk, Lafayette Dog Park does not typically offer specific promotions or special offers in the traditional commercial sense. Its primary "promotion" is its open access and comprehensive amenities available to all local residents and their canine companions without any admission fee. This free entry makes it an incredibly valuable resource for dog owners in Virginia, offering a high-quality, fully fenced, and stimulating environment without any financial barrier.
However, it's always a good idea for visitors to check the official City of Norfolk Parks and Recreation website or local community boards for any potential announcements regarding special events, such as pet adoption days, dog-related workshops, or community clean-up initiatives that might take place at the park. While these are not "promotions" in the commercial sense, they represent opportunities for engagement and added value for the community. Any such events would be community-driven and aimed at enhancing the dog park experience for everyone.

Sep 29, 2019 · Lexi HudsonOur pup Max had a blast his first time here! The other dog parents were awesome too--so friendly and watchful over their own if they started to get rowdy. The view right by the water is beautiful as well 😍 We'll definitely be back!
May 12, 2021 · Dani AdamsPlenty of seating. Nice shaded area. Doggie pick up bags are provided, they have one ramp that looks old you can train your dogs on. Little basket of toys at entrance for doggie play time. Doggie water bowel provided as well. Only reason i give 3 stars is because the fence is surrounding area is really low. If you have a jumper they could easily clear it. Also no area for smaller dogs. So be weary if you have little ones.
Aug 26, 2019 · Natasha AlamedaNice place to take your dog.Take your dog there so they can run around and get some exercise. The trash can stinks and it is right upfront. Some of the people that go there are snobbish.
May 22, 2019 · Ivan CiegoThe dog park had nice grass and a bucket of balls for use if you forgot a toy.
