Barney and Lola had the best time in the small dog area! Lots of shade, fresh water and wagging tails! We almost left because there was a guy with aggressive labs off leash outside of the dog park but I am so happy we stayed! When everyone follows common sense, we can all have fun ;)

Location and Accessibility

La Paws Dog Park is conveniently located at 25100 Felipe Road, Mission Viejo, CA 92692, USA. This central location allows for straightforward commutes, ensuring that a fun outing with your dog is never a long journey away.

A significant advantage of La Paws Dog Park is its ample and easy parking. The park boasts a large gravel parking lot that can accommodate up to 42 vehicles, minimizing the stress of searching for a spot, especially during peak hours. The park is generally open daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. However, it’s important for visitors to note that the park is closed on Thursdays from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM for weekly turf maintenance, ensuring the facility remains in excellent condition. The clearly marked entrance and well-defined pathways ensure a stress-free entry and exit for dogs and their owners.

Services Offered

  • Three Separate Play Areas: La Paws Dog Park offers a unique feature with three distinct, fenced-in areas: a large dog area (approximately 1.5 acres), a small dog area (approximately 0.5 acres), and a dedicated single-dog use area (approximately 0.1 acres). This thoughtful segregation ensures a safer and more tailored play experience for dogs of all sizes and social preferences.
  • Water Fountains for Dogs and Humans: Hydration is a priority, especially during warmer California days. The park is equipped with multiple water fountains that are accessible for both two-legged and four-legged visitors, ensuring everyone stays refreshed.
  • Pet Waste Bag Dispensers and Disposal Bins: To maintain the park's renowned cleanliness, ample stations providing dog waste bags and convenient disposal bins are available throughout all play areas, encouraging responsible pet ownership.
  • Shade Structures and Seating Areas: Numerous benches and shaded structures are strategically placed throughout the park, offering comfortable resting spots for owners to relax and observe their dogs while escaping the sun.
  • Decomposed Granite Paths: While the main play areas are expansive turf, decomposed granite paths run along the fences, offering a different walking surface and views into the park.
  • Walking Trail: A walking trail circles the perimeter of the entire dog park, providing a scenic route for owners and their leashed dogs to enjoy the outdoors, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains and natural slopes.

Features / Highlights

  • Expansive Six-Acre Park: La Paws is one of the largest dog parks in the Mission Viejo area, offering a generous amount of space for dogs to run, play, and explore. Approximately 3 acres are slopes and 3 acres are usable play areas, providing varied terrain.

  • Scenic Views: The walking trail around the park offers beautiful views of the surrounding natural landscape, including mountains and vegetated slopes, adding to the overall pleasant experience.
  • "R. Hero" Dalmatian Sculpture: A unique artistic highlight is the 6-foot, 2-inch-tall, shimmering, bright purple aluminum Dalmatian puppy sculpture named "R. Hero" located at the park's entrance. This sculpture, dedicated in 2014, adds a distinctive and whimsical touch to the park.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public park operated by the City of Mission Viejo, La Paws Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. However, its value to the local community is a continuous "offer" of free, safe, and expansive recreation for dogs and their owners. The City of Mission Viejo Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with local animal welfare organizations and community groups, may occasionally host or support pet-related events that directly benefit park users and the broader pet-owning community. These can include:

  • Pet Adoption Events: Local shelters like OC Animal Care often run adoption promotions (e.g., waiving adoption fees for larger dogs), which indirectly encourage more responsible pet ownership and park usage.
  • Community Pet Fairs: The city or local groups might organize pet-friendly fairs that could include educational booths on pet health, behavior, and responsible park etiquette.
  • Dog-Friendly Gatherings: While less formal, the vibrant community at La Paws often sees impromptu or loosely organized "dog parties" or breed-specific meetups, facilitated by the park's welcoming atmosphere.

To stay informed about any such community-driven events or city-sponsored pet initiatives, local users are encouraged to regularly check the official City of Mission Viejo website, particularly their Parks and Recreation section, or download the City's MV Life App for updates. Engaging with other regulars at the park can also be a great way to learn about upcoming informal gatherings.

Excellent Dog Park in the Area As a dog lover, I can confidently say this is one of the best dog parks in the area. The facilities are incredibly well-maintained, making it a perfect place for both dogs and their owners. There are water fountains for both dogs and people, which is a huge plus, especially on hot days. The park offers plenty of space, with designated areas for small and large dogs, ensuring every dog can play safely and enjoy themselves. The large, open fields give dogs the freedom to run and play as much as they like, which is exactly what they need for a great day out. Parking is easy and ample, with straightforward access, making visits stress-free. The park is always clean and well-kept, reflecting the dedication of the staff to creating a safe and enjoyable space for everyone. As a true dog lover, I highly recommend this park to anyone looking for a safe, comfortable, and beautifully maintained spot to spend time with their pets.

Great place for Fur babies, the only thing sometimes is bothersome is people don't pick up after their babies and sometimes let dogs over 30 pounds to enter to small dog section. Other than this is great atmosphere, great weather, great views you and your fur babies will enjoy also is free to public and free parking. Just FYI every night @8pm sprinkles goes off,,,,

Outside of the aesthetically pleasing façade, I don’t recommend this place if you go on a weeknight after 5pm. I’ve seen and heard about more dogs attacking other dogs for someone who has only been here 3-4 times. Two days ago, my Labrador retriever heeler was picking up their own ball, and got attacked by a large poodle dog that bit his ear multiple times (drew blood on the inside ear and an outside puncture wound). The owner grabbed his dog, said that’s enough, and completely left the dog park without even checking on my dog and making sure he was okay. And I heard about a similar story of another dog that needed stitches and had a large vet bill for the same reason. I’ve seen a dog attacking other dogs every time I’ve come, though not always drawing blood. There’s no stopping these people from coming back and I haven’t seen anyone who actually comes by to check on the park outside of keeping it clean and looking good. I’d only recommend this place in the mornings or before 3pm, when all the crowds start coming, and not after 5pm when there’s no limit to how many dogs can enter this place at once. The shade and chairs around the park are really nice when it’s 80+ degrees out, and there’s lots of water and dog bags around, but for my dogs safety, I’m done with this place.

The BEST dog park in Orange County! Probably 20 or so small dogs in the small dog area when I was here and roughly the same in the large dog are. Huge spacious field in both fenced off areas for the dogs to play, run around and smell each other of course. People are nice and respectful here picking up after their puppy’s as well as not putting big dogs in the small dog area. Surprisingly hardly any barking as the people who bring dogs here are good owners with well trained pups. Water fountain for the dogs to drink and plenty of poop bags. It’s clean and has sprawling views of the mountains and hills. Love it and 5 stars.
