First time checking out this dog run with my pup. It’s easy to find once you step into Madison Square Park. Love how it’s separated by small and all dogs, and it has turf. It was pretty crowded on a Sunday afternoon but still space for the doggos to run around. It has a small hill where dogs can go up and down on. Only downfall is that owners don’t pay attention to their pups, so when they go poop, they don’t realize and it just sits there. Luckily, we help each other out so it does get picked up eventually since no one wants their dog to step on it or eat it. Definitely will be back with my pup since she had a great time there!

Welcome to Jemmy's Dog Run

For dog owners navigating the bustling urban landscape of New York City, particularly those in the heart of Manhattan, finding a dedicated and enjoyable space for their canine companions to run, play, and socialize is a cherished necessity. Within the iconic expanse of Madison Square Park, Jemmy's Dog Run stands out as a premier destination, offering a vital oasis for pups and their human counterparts alike. This isn't just any fenced-in area; it's a thoughtfully designed environment that caters specifically to the energetic needs of dogs while providing comfort and convenience for their owners, making it a beloved fixture in the local New York community.

Jemmy's Dog Run has quickly become a favorite among New York locals, praised for its intelligent layout and essential amenities. As one first-time visitor happily noted, "It’s easy to find once you step into Madison Square Park. Love how it’s separated by small and all dogs, and it has turf." This thoughtful division ensures a safer and more comfortable play environment for dogs of all sizes and energy levels, a crucial feature in a busy city park. Despite sometimes being "pretty crowded on a Sunday afternoon," there's often "still space for the doggos to run around." The inclusion of a "small hill where dogs can go up and down on" adds an element of playful topography, enhancing the dogs' experience. Furthermore, the "cutest dog fountain that was continuously running" provides hygienic hydration, giving owners peace of mind. While acknowledging the typical "pee" smell common in dog parks, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many looking forward to "definitely be back with my pup since she had a great time there!" Jemmy's Dog Run truly offers a fantastic opportunity for New York dogs to be "floofs to be floofing" in a vibrant community setting.

Jemmy's Dog Run is ideally situated within Madison Square Park, a famous urban oasis located at Broadway, New York, NY 10010, USA. While the provided address specifies "Broadway," it is important for New York locals to know that the dog run is nestled within the park itself, typically found on the eastern side. This prime location in the Flatiron District makes it incredibly accessible to residents and visitors alike from across Manhattan.

Accessibility to Jemmy's Dog Run is one of its strongest features. For those working or living in the Flatiron, NoMad, or Chelsea neighborhoods, the park is often just a short walk away, making it effortless for daily visits. New York City's unparalleled public transportation network provides seamless access from virtually anywhere. Numerous subway lines serve the area, including the N, R, W, 6, and F/M lines at stations like 23rd Street and 28th Street, all within easy walking distance of Madison Square Park. Multiple MTA bus routes also traverse Broadway and the surrounding avenues, offering additional transit options. While driving and parking in Manhattan can be challenging, the park's central location and excellent public transit connections mean most New Yorkers will find it incredibly convenient to access without a car. Its integration into a beloved public park allows for a seamless combination of dog play with a stroll through one of New York City's most iconic green spaces, perhaps even grabbing a Shake Shack burger afterward. This ease of access cements Jemmy's Dog Run as a go-to spot for pet owners across New York City.

Jemmy's Dog Run is thoughtfully equipped with a comprehensive range of services and amenities designed to ensure a safe, clean, and highly enjoyable experience for all its canine and human visitors.

  • Dual Off-Leash Play Sections: A significant and highly praised service is the clear separation of the park into two distinct areas: one specifically for small dogs (typically under 25 lbs) and another larger section for all dogs. This thoughtful division ensures a safer and more comfortable play environment, reducing potential intimidation for smaller pups and allowing all dogs to play according to their size and energy level.

  • Continuous Flow Water Fountain: The park features a "cutest dog fountain that was continuously running," providing a hygienic and constant supply of fresh water for dogs to drink from. This is a crucial amenity for keeping active pups hydrated, especially during warmer weather.

  • Ample Seating for Owners: "Lots of seating" in the form of benches are strategically placed throughout both sections of the dog run. These provide comfortable spots for owners to relax, supervise their dogs, and socialize with other members of the dog-owning community.

  • Waste Management Facilities: The park typically provides dog waste bag dispensers and conveniently located trash receptacles. While owner attentiveness is key, the provision of these facilities supports responsible pet ownership and helps maintain the park's cleanliness.

  • Unique Play Structures: The inclusion of a "small hill where dogs can go up and down on" adds an element of varied terrain, providing additional stimulation and fun for energetic dogs.

Jemmy's Dog Run boasts several key features and highlights that firmly establish it as a premier destination for New York dog owners:

  • Turf Surfacing: A major highlight is the use of artificial turf as the play surface. This material is often preferred over dirt or gravel due to its cleanliness, better drainage (reducing mud after rain), and softer impact on paws. It contributes significantly to the park's overall cleanliness and usability.

  • Exceptional Cleanliness (Community Effort): While minor issues with owners not immediately picking up after their dogs can occur, the overall sentiment is that the park is "clean," largely thanks to a proactive community of owners who "help each other out." This collaborative spirit enhances the park's pleasantness.

  • Secure and Well-Managed: The secure fencing and separate sections indicate a well-managed space designed to keep dogs safe while they play off-leash. The park's rules and design promote a controlled environment.

  • Vibrant Social Scene: Especially on weekends and during peak times, the park is a lively hub for dogs and owners. It hosts informal meetups, such as the "Golden Retrievers of New York meet up," highlighting its role as a key social gathering place for the city's dog community.

  • Central Park Location: Being situated within Madison Square Park offers the dual benefit of a beautiful green setting in the heart of Manhattan. This makes it an attractive destination beyond just the dog run itself, allowing for combined park visits.

  • Plenty of Room: Despite being in a dense urban area and experiencing crowds, users note there's "plenty of room for floofs to be floofing" and "space for the doggos to run around," indicating a well-utilized layout.

As a public amenity within a major New York City park, Jemmy's Dog Run does not typically offer commercial "promotions or special offers" in the traditional retail sense. Its primary "promotion" is the consistent provision of a high-quality, free-to-access recreational space for dogs and their owners.

However, the intrinsic value it provides to New York locals comes in the form of:

  • Free, Daily Access to Premium Exercise and Socialization: The most significant benefit is the constant availability of a no-cost, dedicated area for dogs to get essential physical activity and crucial social interaction. This is invaluable in a city where private outdoor space is limited and costly.

Indirect benefits or community-driven "promotions" might include:

  • Organized Meetups: The park frequently hosts specific breed meetups or dog group gatherings (like the Golden Retrievers of New York meet up). While not official "promotions," these events offer a fantastic opportunity for specialized socialization and community building.

  • Proximity to Park Amenities and Local Businesses: Being within Madison Square Park, users benefit from access to other park amenities (like Shake Shack) and are surrounded by a plethora of pet-friendly businesses in the Flatiron District. These businesses might periodically offer their own independent promotions to dog owners.

Recently went to a Golden Retrievers of New York meet up here. It was so lovely. Had the cutest dog fountain that was continuously running so it made me feel better letting my dog drink from it. Sure, it smelled like pee but that’s par for the course. Lots of seating and plenty of room for floofs to be floofing.

I used to frequent this dog park but after my experience today, I am hesitant to go back. I recognize that there are many types of dog owners but believe that what we share is a love for dogs. As I was leaving the small dog park today, an elderly gentleman opened the other gate at the same time as me. I shared that I don’t think it’s a good idea for both gates to be open at the same time, as dictated by the rules of the dog run. He responded in a very rude manner, then proceeded to walk past me, not closing either gate behind him. I would just be careful as I fear that this occurs more often than I think.

Great park and was recently renovated and a decent size place for dogs to play. Trash cans and dog bags are provided as well as clear running water. It’s never been too crowded which is a plus. As this is a review for the park only, some issues are that careless owners don’t respect the dog door airlock and both can be opened at once and sometimes non dog owners will open the door incorrectly. Another issue is the drain for the little river can get clogged so someone needs to take the leaves out, you can just use a stick or just use a dog bag if you don’t want hands wet.

This dog run is very well done. The attention to detail for both the dog and human experience is greatly appreciated. Love the water element, which is super clever! Some dogs loved it to cool off in which was rather hilarious to watch. It really is exceptionally executed.
