Whether your pup is a high-energy adventurer or prefers a more relaxed social scene, Hanscom Dog Park offers the perfect backdrop for memorable outings.

Hanscom Dog Park is conveniently situated at Hanscom Park Dr, Omaha, NE 68105, USA. This prime location places it within Hanscom Park, which is Omaha's oldest park, established in 1889. Its historical setting adds a unique charm, blending well-established green spaces with modern dog park amenities.

The park's address is easy to locate using GPS or online mapping services, guiding you directly to this expansive canine haven. Being part of a larger city park, Hanscom Dog Park benefits from accessible roads and generally ample street parking within Hanscom Park itself, making your arrival and departure smooth and stress-free. Services Offered

Hanscom Dog Park is designed with both dog and owner comfort and convenience in mind, providing a variety of services and amenities for an optimal park experience.

  • Large Off-Leash Areas: The park boasts a significant 2.1-acre off-leash area, providing plenty of room for dogs to run, play, and explore freely.
  • Separate Large and Small Dog Sections: To ensure safe and appropriate play for all sizes, Hanscom Dog Park is thoughtfully divided into three separate dog-run areas. This includes a dedicated half-acre space for small dogs and two larger areas, each approximately 0.8 acres, for bigger breeds. This segregation allows for more harmonious interactions.
  • Natural Shade: A much-appreciated feature, especially during hot Nebraska summers, is the presence of several trees that offer decent shade within the park. This provides a comfortable resting spot for both pets and their humans.
  • Water Fountain: A water fountain is available on-site, providing a convenient source of hydration for thirsty pups after their vigorous play. However, as with any public water source, it's always a good idea to bring your own water as a backup.
  • Waste Bag Dispensers: To encourage responsible pet ownership and maintain cleanliness, complimentary waste bags are provided, along with trash receptacles for proper disposal of waste.
  • Seating for Owners: Various seating options, including benches, are scattered throughout the park, allowing pet parents to relax and supervise their dogs comfortably.
  • Natural Play Elements: The park incorporates natural features like "fun logs for dogs to climb on" and "bark piles for them to roll/dig in," adding stimulating and engaging elements to playtime.
Features / Highlights

What truly sets Hanscom Dog Park apart and makes it a favorite among Omaha dog owners are its distinctive features and the natural environment it offers.

  • Expansive Size: At 2.1 acres, it provides a generous amount of space for dogs to run and play without feeling cramped, a consistent highlight in visitor reviews.
  • Historical Park Setting: Being situated within Hanscom Park, Omaha's oldest park, lends a unique charm. The park's rolling landscape and mature trees create a picturesque and natural environment.
  • Well-Maintained and Secure Fencing: Reviews consistently praise the fences for being "tall and in good repair," ensuring dogs remain safely contained within the off-leash areas. The park is reportedly double-fenced, adding another layer of security.
  • Natural Play Structures: The incorporation of logs and bark piles encourages natural dog behaviors like climbing and digging, providing enrichment beyond just open running space.
  • Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere (at times): While popular, some visitors have noted that the park can be relatively quiet, offering a peaceful retreat for dogs and owners who prefer less crowded environments.
  • Grass and Natural Terrain: Unlike some dog parks with artificial surfaces, Hanscom Dog Park primarily offers a natural grass landscape, though visitors should be prepared for it to get muddy after rainy weather.
Promotions or Special Offers

As a public park managed by the City of Omaha, Hanscom Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" for entry or usage, as access is free for all visitors. The primary "offer" is the provision of a free, well-maintained, and spacious off-leash area for the community's dogs.

However, being part of the larger Hanscom Park, the dog park often benefits from or is near various community events and initiatives organized by the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation department or local community groups. While not direct promotions, these can enhance the overall experience for park visitors:

  • Community Events in Hanscom Park: Hanscom Park itself, as a historic and central park, often hosts various public events, festivals, or local gatherings. While not always dog-specific, these events contribute to the vibrant atmosphere and may offer additional activities before or after a dog park visit.
  • Pet-Related Community Initiatives: The City of Omaha and local animal welfare organizations sometimes organize pet-friendly events, adoption drives, or educational programs that might take place in or near city dog parks, including Hanscom.

To stay informed about any such community events or pet-related initiatives that might align with a visit to Hanscom Dog Park, it's advisable to check the official City of Omaha Parks and Recreation website or local community event calendars.

What a nice large space for our dog to meet other dogs and run around.

This is a GORGEOUS dog park! We were traveling from out of state, and finding this park was a real treat. Our 18-mo-old rescue pup loved having lots of space to run and stretch her legs after two days in the car. The one other dog we encountered was well mannered and playful. Although it was overcast, the trees would definitely offer shade on a hot, sunny day. The fences are tall and in good repair (aside from two holes in the back fence that are both too high for a dog to jump through unless they're really motivated), and there were fun logs for dogs to climb on and bark piles for them to roll/dig in.

It's a good doggie park they have it divided into three different groups small medium and large dogs which is nice. However there is some holes in some of their fences where some of the dogs would be able to get out specially the smaller ones.
