Beautiful dog park filled with friendly dogs and mostly responsible pet owners. There is an accessible sidewalk as well as rock paths throughout. Two small huts and a stand of gamble oaks provide seating and shade. It’s a huge park with plenty of spaces for pups to play fetch, explore, and socialize with new friends. The native plantings are beginning to mature and fill in bare areas. The only cons are no water and the interstate noise.

For dog owners across Colorado, the desire for an expansive and natural setting where their canine companions can truly roam free, explore, and socialize is a common one. In Castle Rock, the Glendale Open Space Trail offers exactly that – a truly remarkable destination that serves as both a beautiful open space and a dedicated off-leash dog park. This isn't just a simple dog park; it's a vast natural landscape designed for exploration, providing a serene escape for both pets and their human companions.
Spanning 17 fenced-in acres within the larger Glendale Farm Open Space, this area has been thoughtfully updated to enhance the visitor experience. It's a place where friendly dogs and responsible owners converge, enjoying the beauty of native plantings, rolling terrain, and breathtaking views. From casual strolls on accessible sidewalks to invigorating runs on rock paths, Glendale Open Space Trail provides a diverse environment for every kind of canine adventure. It truly embodies the Colorado spirit of outdoor activity and connection with nature, making it a highly cherished spot for locals.
Glendale Open Space Trail is strategically located in Castle Rock, offering convenient access for residents throughout Douglas County and beyond. You'll find this impressive open space and dog park at:
12300 S Havana St, Castle Rock, CO 80108, USA
Its accessibility has been significantly improved with recent updates, now featuring both North and South parking lots and entrances. This dual access helps distribute visitors and makes arriving at the park a smoother experience. The park is easily accessible from I-25, via either Exit 188 (Castle Pines, then north 2 miles on East Frontage Road) or Exit 192 (RidgeGate, then south 2 miles on East Frontage Road). The presence of new porta-potties near the entrances further enhances convenience for visitors. Once at the park, an accessible sidewalk allows for easy movement, complementing the natural rock paths. The 17-acre off-leash dog park is securely fenced, providing a safe environment for dogs to play, while the adjacent 1.6-mile Glendale Farm Trail offers additional opportunities for on-leash walks with stunning views.
Glendale Open Space Trail, while emphasizing a natural experience, is equipped with several key services to ensure a comfortable and responsible visit for all:
- Dedicated Off-Leash Dog Park: The core service is the expansive 17-acre fenced area specifically designated for off-leash dog play. This provides ample room for dogs to run, play fetch, and socialize freely.
- Extensive Trail System: The open space features a 1.6-mile loop trail with varying terrain, including rock paths and accessible sidewalks. While dogs must be leashed on the main Glendale Farm Trail, the off-leash area connects seamlessly, offering diverse options for exercise.
- Seating and Shade: The park provides benches, including those within "two small huts" and under a "stand of gamble oaks," offering welcome seating and shade, which is particularly valued during sunny Colorado days. There are also picnic tables available.
- Portable Restrooms: Recent updates include the addition of porta-potties, greatly improving convenience for visitors.
- Electric Vehicle Charging Stations: A modern amenity, the park offers two electric charging stations, catering to eco-conscious visitors.
- Waste Management: While reviews note the absence of trash cans directly on the loop trail, large dumpsters are available in the parking lots. The emphasis is on visitors packing out all dog waste, and while bowls are often set out, personal water is encouraged.
Glendale Open Space Trail stands out with several unique features that make it a premier destination for dog owners in the Castle Rock area:
- Massive Off-Leash Area: At 17 acres, it's one of the largest fenced off-leash dog parks in the region, providing an extraordinary amount of space for dogs to truly stretch their legs and explore without feeling confined.
- Beautiful Views: The park offers "beautiful views" of the surrounding landscape, including the high prairie and caprock overlooks, providing a scenic backdrop for your outdoor adventures. The terrain is described as "fun for the dogs to run around and play."
- Diverse Terrain and Paths: With accessible sidewalks for strollers or easier walking, and "rock paths throughout" for a more natural feel, the park offers varied surfaces for both humans and dogs, making each visit a unique experience.
- Friendly Community: Visitors consistently report encountering "friendly dogs and mostly responsible pet owners," contributing to a positive and welcoming atmosphere for all.
- Native Plantings: The ongoing maturation and filling in of native plantings enhance the natural beauty of the open space, making it visually appealing and contributing to the ecosystem.
- Shade Availability: The presence of huts and gamble oaks provides some much-needed shade, a crucial amenity during Colorado's often sunny weather.
- Proximity to Glendale Farm Trail: The dog park's integration with the larger 1.6-mile Glendale Farm Trail offers expanded opportunities for recreation, combining off-leash play with scenic on-leash walks.

For Colorado residents, particularly those in and around Castle Rock, Glendale Open Space Trail offers an exceptionally suitable and highly valued destination for dog owners. Its defining feature – a sprawling 17-acre fenced off-leash area – perfectly caters to the active and outdoor-loving lifestyle prevalent in our state, providing unparalleled space for dogs to run, play, and explore freely. The presence of diverse terrain, from accessible sidewalks to natural rock paths, ensures that both two-legged and four-legged visitors can enjoy the landscape, making it ideal for a variety of fitness levels and preferences.
While the absence of water on the loop trail and the need to rely on dumpsters in parking lots for waste disposal require visitors to be prepared, these are small considerations for Colorado locals who are accustomed to being self-sufficient in our natural environments. The stunning views, natural plantings, and dedicated shade areas contribute to a truly immersive and peaceful experience that many seek to incorporate into their daily routines. It truly embodies the adventurous, community-minded, and nature-loving spirit of Colorado, making it an indispensable local resource for active pet families.

Sep 18, 2024 · Rebecca T.It's been 2yrs since I've brought my pups and the open space has been updated. There is now North and South parking lots and entrances with added porta potties. They have 2 electric charging stations. The top portion is paved so you can walk your dogs and bring a stroller. The trail is a 1.6 mile loop. Beautiful views and the terrain is fun for the dogs to run around and play. Our dogs had a great time. Disappointed I couldn't find any trash cans on the loop only dumpsters in the parking lot. People were leaving poop bags around the Open Space. Please bring your own water. No water available, only bowls.
Mar 10, 2024 · Tammy ColeI was here for the trail, but want to come back with the dog later! The parking lot was great and can hold several cars if needed, it was not super busy when I was there on a Sunday late morning in September. The trail was a little washed out, but otherwise a great short easy trail. I enjoy trail running, and I don't think it would be fun for that in it's current state, but it was okay for a walk. Just in case you are curious, my watch says one lap starting on the north side and returning on the south side is about 150 feet in elevation gain. The view at the top was pretty cool, at least until they build houses in the distance. Wide open prairies, it was stunning!
Jan 24, 2024 · Hethyr FouseIt’s large and spacious. However there’s no trash cans on the inside for poop bag deposits. There’s a lot a lot of tight areas or funnel like areas that don’t allow much for the dogs to play together. The agility area is pretty small, so if you’re only coming for that, it may not be the best fit.
Jan 02, 2025 · Ben LThis is such a great dog park! It is massive and has plenty of places for your dogs to explore. It's a nice loop trail that climbs a pretty steep incline. Definitely a good workout for you and your dog. Plenty of places to drop off poop bags throughout the loop. If you're looking for a beautiful place to hang out with Your pup I definitely recommend this place.
