A great little dog park with a children's play area. Only didn't get 5 stars because some of the benches have been smashed and the wood was still laying around so I assume it was recent. The grass is cut and there are bags for your pup poop. It's a hidden gem.

Welcome to Fabon Brown Park
For dog owners in Tyrone, Georgia, and the surrounding Fayette County area, finding a dedicated space where their beloved canine companions can run, play, and even tackle some fun challenges is a true delight. Fabon Brown Park offers just that: a charming and well-equipped dog park that has quickly become a "hidden gem" in the community. While it may be smaller than some sprawling regional parks, its thoughtful design and unique features make it an ideal spot for locals seeking a convenient and engaging outing with their furry friends.
Fabon Brown Park isn't just a patch of grass; it’s a community-focused amenity designed to promote canine well-being and provide a social hub for pet parents. Its inclusion of obstacles for dogs sets it apart, offering more than just open space. This article will provide a detailed overview of Fabon Brown Park, outlining its convenient location, the services it offers, its distinctive features, and why it's such a suitable and cherished spot for so many local residents and their canine companions.
Fabon Brown Park is centrally located at 200 Handley Ct, Tyrone, GA 30290, USA. This address places it directly within Tyrone, making it highly accessible for residents throughout the town and neighboring communities in Fayette County. As a local park, it is designed for easy access for residents, often just a short drive or walk from many neighborhoods.
The dog park operates with clear hours, typically from 7 AM to 8 PM (dawn to dusk), providing ample opportunity for visits throughout the day, accommodating various schedules. Parking is generally available, as it is part of a larger municipal park complex that also features a children's play area. Its presence within Tyrone's recreational offerings highlights the town's commitment to providing diverse amenities for its residents, including those with pets.
Fabon Brown Park is specifically designed with dogs and their owners in mind, providing essential services and amenities to ensure a comfortable, safe, and engaging experience for everyone.
- Separate Off-Leash Areas: The park features distinct, fenced areas to accommodate different dog sizes. There is a 3,400 square-foot play area specifically for small dogs (under 30 lbs) and a larger 5,300 square-foot area for large dogs. This separation enhances safety and allows dogs to play with companions of similar size and energy levels.
- Artificial Turf: A significant amenity, the dog park utilizes artificial turf in its play areas. This helps to reduce mud, keep the park cleaner, and provide a consistent surface for play, especially beneficial after rain.
- Dog Water Stations: Each play area is equipped with dog water stations, crucial for keeping pups hydrated during active play, particularly important during Georgia's warm summer months.
- Poop Bag Stations: To maintain cleanliness and promote responsible pet ownership, the park provides dog waste bag stations at various points, making cleanup convenient for visitors.
- Benches for Owners: Benches are available within both play areas, offering seating for owners to relax and supervise their dogs. While one review noted some damaged benches, the presence of seating is a key amenity.
- Perimeter Fencing: The entire dog park area is secured with perimeter fencing, providing a safe and contained environment for off-leash activity.
It's important to note the park rules, which indicate that no food (for people or canines) is allowed in the dog park, only water (to protect the synthetic turf). Also, glass containers are prohibited, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Fabon Brown Park stands out among local dog parks due to several unique features that enhance the canine experience and provide added value for dog owners. These highlights contribute to its reputation as a "great little dog park" and a "hidden gem."
- Dog Obstacles / Agility Elements: A major highlight, the park is noted for having "obstacles to challenge your dog and you!" These can include elements like a tire and ramp obstacle, as well as wooden structures designed for canine agility and fun. This feature provides mental and physical stimulation beyond just running.
- Artificial Turf Surface: The use of artificial turf is a significant benefit, ensuring a cleaner environment with less mud, even after rain. This allows for year-round play without worrying about messy paws and cars.
- Well-Maintained Grounds: Despite some temporary issues with benches mentioned in one review, the park generally receives praise for being "well maintained" and having the "grass is cut," indicating consistent upkeep by the town.
- Dual-Purpose Park: The dog park is integrated into a larger park complex that also includes a children's play area. This allows families with both dogs and children to enjoy a day out at one convenient location.
- Designed for Safety: With separate entrances for large and small dogs, and distinct play areas, the park prioritizes the safety of all canine visitors, allowing for more appropriate interactions.
A constructive feedback point from a reviewer was the suggestion to paint or cover the exposed wood on obstacles with grip tape to prevent splinters for dogs. This highlights a minor area for potential improvement that could further enhance dog safety and comfort.
As a public park managed by the Town of Tyrone, Fabon Brown Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Its primary "offer" is the free and open access it provides to a dedicated and well-equipped recreational space for the community's dogs and their owners. Access to the dog park is part of the general public park amenities provided by the town.
However, the Town of Tyrone Parks and Recreation Department may organize various community events or programs that could be held at Fabon Brown Park or other parks within the town. While specific dog park-centric promotions aren't common, the park could be a venue for broader town events. These might include:
- Community Festivals or Events: The Town of Tyrone regularly hosts events throughout the year, such as the Tyrone Hops & Vines Festival, Founders Day, or seasonal celebrations. While not strictly dog park events, they add to the vibrancy of the town's recreational offerings and could coincide with a visit to the dog park.
- Recreation Department Programs: The Tyrone Recreation Department offers various classes and activities for residents of all ages. While a skatepark was suggested by one reviewer for broader community impact, the town focuses on other recreational offerings.
For the most up-to-date information on any community events or programs that might involve Fabon Brown Park or other recreational facilities in Tyrone, it is always recommended to consult the official Town of Tyrone website, specifically their Parks & Recreation section, or their event calendars.

Sep 19, 2020 · Kathy PothI think this dog park is great for what it is, and has been the only one ive been too that has obstacles to challenge your dog and you! I just think the exposed wood should be painted or covered with grip tape. Especially overtime when the wood gets worn by the weather, I'd hate to be pulling splinters out of my dogs paws! All Tyrone needs now is a SKATEPARK! sports are changing just like the world, there is q baseball field in Tyrone that doesn't look used on a daily basis. If there was a skatepark it would get use from all ages daily and make a positive impact on the community, and keep kids doing something outside!
Jun 03, 2019 · Addison TaylorIf you look up "bare minimum" in the dictionary, there's a picture of this dog park. One review says the park is 40'x40'. I think that's generous. There are some activities for the dogs, but it's a very tiny space. There doesn't appear to be much parking either (not that you'd need it, since you can't get more that a few dogs in there at a time). I can't believe that this is the only dog park in town, even if the town is small. I'm puzzled why a dog area wasn't added to Handley Park. There's plenty of space for one.
May 14, 2024 · Scott CarrollNothing to write home about. It's a 40'×40' pen with a few benches & a few novelties & obstacles. No water station. I guess Tyrone said it's better than nothing.
