This was our first time here, and everything was a decent experience. I will say my pup is off and on with what dogs he is friendly with so we don't leave him off leash all the time, instead let him in a secluded gate and let him get his fun and tire himself out. We do keep him om leash and let him and the other dogs smell one another. There are a lot of people with dogs there, so if your dog is iffy with others, I would avoid this spot. They have 2 blocked off areas, one for the big dogs and the other for small. Overall experience good I just wish they had more secluded spots for dogs who might need alone time.

- Two Separate Fenced-in Areas by Dog Size: The park is thoughtfully divided into two distinct, securely fenced areas: a large dog area spanning 14 acres and a smaller dog area covering 3 acres. This separation ensures that dogs can play safely and comfortably with companions of similar size and energy levels.
- Swimming Ponds with Filtration: A significant draw, both the large and small dog areas feature "bone-shaped cement ponds" for swimming. A review noted "a water filtration system for the ponds," suggesting efforts to maintain water quality, although the specifics of treatment should always be considered by owners. Some sources even mention a "fountain in pond for extra cooling."
- Agility Courses/Dog Playgrounds: Each side of the park includes a "dog playground" or "agility course" with various equipment designed for stimulating physical activity and mental engagement.
- Dog Showers/Wash Stations: Conveniently located just outside the dog area gates, there are "two dog showers" or "wash stations" available. These are invaluable for rinsing off muddy or wet dogs before heading home.
- Drinking Fountains: The park provides "six drinking fountains" for both dogs and their human companions, ensuring ample hydration during playtime.
- Shade Pavilions/Canopies and Trees: While some older trees may be struggling, the park features "five shade pavilions/canopies" and "plenty of mature trees," offering crucial shaded areas for dogs and owners to rest and cool down.
- Benches: There are "16 benches" scattered throughout the park, including some "covered park benches" within the shaded pavilions, providing comfortable seating for owners.
- Concrete Pathways and Walking Trails: The park boasts "concrete pathways" and "a mile of trails" (0.81-mile loop in the large dog area, 0.29-mile loop in the small dog area), offering designated routes for walking and exploration.
- Plenty of Tennis Balls: A unique and convenient service, reviewers mention the park has "plenty of tennis balls" available, adding to the fun and eliminating the need for owners to bring their own.
- Restrooms: Public restrooms are available within the larger Congressman Bill Archer Park facilities, shared with the adjacent skate park.
- Doggie Poop Bags: While not explicitly detailed in all reviews, as a well-maintained Harris County park, it is highly likely that pet waste bags are provided at designated stations to promote cleanliness.
- Massive 17-Acre Size: Congressman Bill Archer Dog Park is recognized as one of the largest dog parks in Houston, with its 14-acre large dog area and 3-acre small dog area providing unparalleled space for off-leash running and play.
- Unique Swimming Ponds with Potential Filtration: The bone-shaped ponds in both sections, along with mentions of a "water filtration system" and "fountain in pond for extra cooling," make this park a standout, especially for water-loving dogs in the Texas heat.
- Extensive Agility Courses: The inclusion of robust agility equipment in both large and small dog sections offers stimulating activities beyond simple running, catering to dogs who enjoy challenges.
- Dedicated Dog Showers/Wash Stations: This highly practical feature allows owners to conveniently clean their dogs after playing in the ponds or muddy areas, making for a cleaner ride home.
- Ample Shade and Covered Areas: With "five shade pavilions/canopies" and numerous mature trees, the park provides crucial relief from the sun, enhancing comfort for both dogs and owners.

May 30, 2025 · Jordan GalbreathDogs had a blast. We drove 50 minutes for them to experience such a nice park. Definitely worth the drive. I wish I knew what the pond was treated with, but our dogs are doing just fine hours later after playing in it and (unfortunately) drinking the water. There seemed to even be a water filtration system for the ponds. Very impressive dog park!
Sep 08, 2024 · brittany coleThis is the largest and most complete dog park in Houston. It provides two large natural swimming pools for dogs and covers an area equivalent to 10 football fields. There is an obstacle course for dogs in the park. There is a special area for dogs to bathe and clean at the entrance. The park is divided into three areas. Each area is equipped with a water dispenser and a large outdoor rest area.
Sep 09, 2024 · Jonathan chenMy husband and I started going to this dog park back in July this year, and I honestly love it so much. We were going to Millie Bush Dog Park beforehand, which is a great alternative. However, in my opinion, this park beats it. Our Nova girl loves to swim and has made lots of new friends. The lake is in the shape of a dog bone, which is super cute. This also has an area for the small doggies as well. I appreciate the size of this dog park because it is perfect not just for the dogs but for owners as well. We can walk and enjoy the outdoors as well as our furry friend. It has lots of shade, and my husband and I truly appreciate that because it is honestly difficult to find dog parks shaded in general. In my opinion, this dog park would be very difficult to beat, and we have only been to a handful. Great memories made this summer that I will always cherish. This dog park does have water fountains and dog wash areas for both big and small. Sorry, not pictured. These pictures were over the course of a month. ** *FYI*** The sewage drain. Beware of snakes near it. It is Texas, after all. The snakes try to go down and can not. Apparently, they are all fat and try to escape that way. I have not seen any in the dog pool but just the drain. It is the opposite direction of small dog park at the end of the big dog park doggy pool past the first shelter in the left coming in.
Sep 02, 2023 · Paula CantleyOut pups had an absolute blast here… it was their first time being to such a large dog park and they went into overload and went all out. This park has been around for years and still has the look that it’s well maintained. I would definitely recommend the trip for your dogs, it’s very well worth it. We currently drive about 40 minutes to get to such an enjoyable park.
