Central Bark in Hagerstown offers a range of essential services and amenities designed to create a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable environment for both dogs and their owners.
Separate Off-Leash Play Areas: A key feature highlighted by visitors is the clear separation of play spaces. The park is divided into two distinct sides: one specifically for dogs under 40 lbs, and another for dogs over 40 lbs. This separation helps ensure safe and appropriate play for dogs of various sizes and energy levels.
Water Fountains for Dogs and Humans: To ensure proper hydration, water fountains are available on both sides of the park, catering to both canine and human visitors. This is a crucial amenity, especially during warmer Maryland months.
Grass Ground Cover: Unlike some dog parks with gravel or mulch, Central Bark features grass as its primary ground cover. This natural surface is often preferred by dogs for running and playing, and it can be softer on paws.
Waste Bag Dispensers and Trash Receptacles: Although not explicitly mentioned in all provided reviews, it is standard for well-maintained public dog parks like Central Bark to provide waste bag dispensers and ample trash bins. This encourages responsible pet ownership and helps keep the park clean.
Fenced Enclosure: The entire dog park is a fully fenced enclosure, providing a secure environment where dogs can safely play off-leash without concerns of wandering off.
Free Entry: As a public park operated by Washington County, there is no admission fee to use Central Bark, making it an accessible and budget-friendly option for all Maryland dog owners.

However, information from Washington County Parks & Recreation indicates the park operates seasonally, with annual opening and closing dates. Perfect city dog park. There are always furry friends to meet and their companions are nice too! The park is fantastically maintained and perfect for dogs of all sizes. Thank you for being awesome!
Oct 10, 2024 · Aaron CrowellNice dog park. There are two sides, one side for under 40lbs, one side over 40lbs. There are water fountains on both sides for both humans and dogs. There is grass the ground, and people seem to be good at picking up after their animals.
Jun 07, 2024 · Erika OThe park was huge, and had a lot of space for my dogs to hangout, however, there was poop everywhere from owners lack of picking up after their pets. Which wasn’t really great, but my dog still had a great time! I loved that they had their own water fountain for the dogs, because after a couple ball throws, my dog was ready for some water lol.
May 05, 2024 · Taylor JohnThe dog park is a good size and it has separate areas for bigger dogs and smaller dogs. But it's very muddy...
Jan 16, 2025 · Judy SunGreat space for dogs and their owners. But keep an eye on your footing. Pros: fenced area with separate sides for large and small dogs, some shade, huge amount of space for both. Owners all seem focused on their dogs and not phones. New grass added to fill in muddy areas. Cons: since its large, owners miss their dogs waste sometimes. Water is off in winter.
