I was nervous about dog parks because of all the horror stories I've seen and heard but my pup LOVES playing with other dogs. So we went and observed from outside of the park (through the fence.) I didn't feel comfortable yet and there was a ton of people there (Friday evening end of summer. ) So after more obedience training and confidence in my end, we tried it. We loved it. Most people seem very responsible and keep an eye on their dogs. There were a few who you could tell visit a lot, felt like owners were too relaxed and didn't supervise their dogs and their dogs seemed to have so much ownership of the park that were a bit territorial. But that was mild and few and far between. I have had only good experiences there. They also have a small dog park that is separate from the other side. There was poop bags in case you forgot your own and shared water dishes and coolers of water to refill if needed. Not too shabby.

Welcome to Bunker Hills Dog Park
As Minnesota residents, we cherish our outdoor spaces, and that extends to finding the perfect spots for our beloved canine companions to stretch their legs, socialize, and simply be dogs. If you're searching for an exceptional off-leash experience in the Anoka County area, look no further than **Bunker Hills Dog Park**. This expansive and well-regarded facility has become a go-to destination for dog owners across the region, offering a safe and stimulating environment for pups of all sizes.
For many dog owners, the thought of a dog park can bring a mix of excitement and apprehension. You might have heard "horror stories" or witnessed less-than-ideal situations. However, Bunker Hills Dog Park stands out for its generally responsible community and thoughtful design. Many visitors initially observe from outside the fence, gradually building comfort before letting their furry friends join the fun. The overwhelming consensus is positive, with most people actively supervising their dogs, contributing to a pleasant and safe atmosphere for everyone.
Bunker Hills Dog Park is more than just a fenced-in area; it's a vibrant community hub where both dogs and their human companions can enjoy the beauty of Minnesota's natural landscape. From seasoned regulars to first-time visitors, the park provides a welcoming space for canine playdates and even friendly conversations among strangers.
---Conveniently located in Coon Rapids, **Bunker Hills Dog Park** is easily accessible for residents throughout Anoka County and beyond. Its address, **1620 133rd Ave NW #1634, Coon Rapids, MN 55448, USA**, places it within the larger Bunker Hills Regional Park system, known for its extensive recreational opportunities.
Getting to the park is straightforward, and there's **plenty of parking available**, which is a significant advantage, especially during peak hours. While traffic can occasionally be heavy when entering the area, particularly if arriving when a nearby dump opens, the ample parking ensures you won't struggle to find a spot for your vehicle. For those camping at the adjacent Bunker Hills Campground, the dog park is a popular and convenient amenity, though it's worth noting that while trails connect, it can be a bit of a hike from the campground for some dogs, so driving might be preferable for pups who tire easily.
The park's location within a larger regional park also means it benefits from well-maintained surroundings and infrastructure, making the journey to and from the dog park a part of the enjoyable outing.
---Bunker Hills Dog Park is thoughtfully equipped with several key amenities to ensure a comfortable and convenient experience for both dogs and their owners. While it primarily offers an off-leash environment, the supportive services enhance the overall visit:
Separate Small Dog Area: Understanding that not all dogs are comfortable with large, boisterous play, the park features a distinct, separate area specifically designed for smaller dogs. This allows smaller breeds or more timid pups to play safely and confidently without being overwhelmed by larger companions.
Waste Bag Dispensers: Forgetting your dog's waste bags is a common oversight, but Bunker Hills Dog Park has you covered. Dispensers are readily available, ensuring responsible pet waste disposal and helping to keep the park clean for everyone.
Water Dishes and Coolers (Shared): While it's always advisable to bring your own water for your dog, especially during warmer months, the park often provides shared water dishes and coolers with water to refill them. This is a helpful feature, though visitors note that the jugs can sometimes be empty, so it's best to come prepared.
Paved Walking Trails (for humans): For human companions, there are paved trails that allow for comfortable walking while your dog enjoys the freedom of the off-leash area alongside you. This thoughtful design provides a pleasant experience for owners who wish to get some steps in while their dogs socialize.
What truly sets Bunker Hills Dog Park apart are its unique features and highlights that contribute to an exceptional experience for dogs and their owners alike:
Vast Open Space: The park boasts a remarkable amount of space, allowing dogs ample room to run, play, and burn off energy freely. This expansive area is a major draw, providing an environment where even the most energetic dogs can enjoy a full sprint.
Abundance of Trees: Unlike many open dog parks, Bunker Hills features numerous trees throughout the property. These provide natural shade, which is invaluable on sunny Minnesota days, offering cool spots for dogs to rest and for owners to relax. The trees also add to the aesthetic appeal of the park, creating a more natural and engaging environment.
Well-Maintained Grounds: Visitors consistently praise the park for being well-maintained. This includes regular upkeep of the grounds, ensuring a pleasant and clean environment for all users. The presence of bags and buckets for dog waste further emphasizes the park's commitment to cleanliness.
Paved Interior Paths: While dogs can roam freely, there are paved paths within the park that human companions can utilize. This offers a comfortable walking surface and helps navigate the large space, making it enjoyable for people to walk with their dogs.
Community Atmosphere: Beyond the physical attributes, the park fosters a positive community atmosphere. Many visitors report encountering "pretty nice humans" and their pups, enjoying friendly conversations or simply a peaceful walk alongside other dog lovers. This sense of camaraderie enhances the overall experience.
Dog-Friendly Design: The park is clearly designed with dogs in mind, from the designated off-leash areas to the availability of waste bags and water. It's a place where dogs are not just tolerated but celebrated.
As a public dog park managed by Anoka County Parks, Bunker Hills Dog Park typically operates on an annual permit system. While there aren't regular "promotions" in the traditional retail sense, the value lies in the affordable annual permit that grants access to all Anoka County dog parks. This provides excellent value for frequent visitors. For specific details on permit fees and any potential occasional initiatives (such as free permit days or discounted rates during certain periods), it is always best to check the official Anoka County Parks website or contact them directly. However, the consistent access offered by the permit itself is the primary ongoing "special offer" for dedicated dog park users in the area.

---For dog owners in Minnesota, particularly those residing in or near Anoka County, **Bunker Hills Dog Park** is an indispensable local resource. Its suitability for residents stems from several key factors that cater directly to the needs and preferences of the local community.
Firstly, the park provides an **unparalleled opportunity for dogs to exercise and socialize safely in an off-leash environment**. In a state known for its love of the outdoors, having a dedicated, expansive space where dogs can truly be themselves is invaluable. The sheer size of the park means even during busy times, there's often enough room for all dogs to run and play without feeling overly crowded. The separate small dog area further enhances its appeal, ensuring that dogs of all sizes and temperaments have a comfortable place to interact.
Secondly, the **thoughtful amenities and maintenance** reflect a commitment to a positive user experience. It's a place where dogs are visibly excited to visit, a testament to the joy and fulfillment it brings to their lives. Apr 19, 2025 · Amy SteinerEvery time we camp at Bunker Hills Campground, we bring our pups over to this beautiful dog park. I love the paved trail the human companions can walk on while your dog follows you and can be playful with friends along the way. I encountered some pretty nice humans here, as well as their pups. Enjoyed some nice conversations with strangers or just walked alone. So much space for dogs to run free. Water jugs were at both ends of the park but were both empty on all of our visits, so bring water for your furry friend. The rules say no digging, but there are some decent sized holes under the picnic tables where the dogs have tried to find a cool place to lay down. Lots of trees, well maintained, bags and buckets for doggy doo. On one occasion there were gunshots at a nearby shooting range that kind of spooked my pups so just be aware. Otherwise, our dogs were so excited to hop in the car and know they were coming here. You can also walk the trails, but it's a hike from the campground and our pup was tired out just walking to the park. Plenty of parking, though traffic can get heavy entering if arriving when the nearby dump opens.
Jul 25, 2024 · Elise SI love coming here with my two dogs. The paved trail around the perimeter is so helpful. I love being able to walk my dogs off leash. I wish it was more groomed though, there are a lot of stickers , but I try to keep my dogs as close to the path as possible. They still get to greet people and other dogs and chase. They should consider putting some mulch in maybe. The small dog area is quite large.
Sep 18, 2023 · Jarod SThis is a great park, my first time. He's kind of muddy now because of melting snow but he didn't care, so many dogs to play with! They have all the amenities- water bowls, poop disposals, running hills, separation of big and small dogs...great experience, will be back!!
Mar 30, 2024 · Cammie Wadman BacaGreat place to take your dogs for running. They discourage ball tossing as it can make the dogs aggressive. Asphalt walking path which I'm not crazy about. Actually, I like it more rustic. This has been such a dry summer, be prepared for alot of dust and dirt.
