We are fortunate to live in walking distance of this park, for the dog and for ourselves! The dog park and dog pond are well maintained and the fellow dog owners are exceptional. There is an abundance of wildlife, nature trails, disc golf, covered pavilions, dog waste stations and fields for sports. The dog parks are $50 for the year, which is well worth the cost. The bridges do get very hot for dog paws, which is my only complaint.

Features / Highlights

Bob Gardner Dog Park is consistently praised for several key features and highlights that make it a premier destination for local dog owners:

  • Exceptional Maintenance: Visitors frequently commend the park's "well-maintained" condition, a direct result of its managed access and dedicated upkeep. This ensures a clean and pleasant environment.
  • Dedicated Dog Pond: The presence of a large pond specifically for dogs to swim is a major draw, offering unique recreational opportunities not found at every dog park.
  • Spacious Off-Leash Areas: The park provides ample room for dogs to run, play, and socialize freely, catering to the exercise needs of even the most energetic canines.
  • Friendly Community: The park attracts "exceptional" and "friendly dog owners," contributing to a positive and welcoming atmosphere for both pets and their humans.
  • Abundance of Amenities: Beyond the core dog park features, the wider Bob Gardner Community Park offers nature trails, disc golf, and covered pavilions, making it a multifaceted recreational area.
  • Wildlife Observation: Being nestled between wetland preserves and conservation areas, the park offers opportunities to observe local wildlife, enhancing the natural experience.
  • Separate Areas for All Sizes: The clear division between small and large dog areas ensures safer and more comfortable play interactions.
  • Membership Value: While requiring a fee, locals consistently note that the annual membership is "well worth the cost" given the quality of the facilities and the maintained environment.

A minor consideration noted by some users is that the bridges within the park (likely those leading to or around the pond/trails) can "get very hot for dog paws." Owners should be mindful of this during peak sun hours, especially in Florida’s climate.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a membership-based dog park within the Lakewood Ranch community, Bob Gardner Dog Park’s "promotions" primarily revolve around the value proposition of its annual membership.

The core "special offer" is the membership itself:

  • Annual Membership: Provides exclusive access to the well-maintained dog park areas and pond. The annual fee is $50 for Lakewood Ranch residents and $100 for non-residents. This structured access helps manage park usage and ensures high standards of maintenance.

Beyond the membership, any special events would likely be community-driven or organized by the Lakewood Ranch Community Development Districts rather than traditional commercial promotions. These might include:

  • Community Pet Events: Occasional pet-centric gatherings or activities hosted by Lakewood Ranch or local animal welfare groups, potentially utilizing the park.
  • Local Sponsorships: While not a direct park promotion, local pet businesses might offer discounts or services to Bob Gardner Dog Park members, fostering community partnerships.

Interested locals in Florida, particularly those in or near Lakewood Ranch, should visit the official Lakewood Ranch community website or contact the park management for the most current information on membership, rules, and any community-wide pet events that might be scheduled. NOT A PUBLIC PARK!! Located in a gated community!! We are visiting from out of town and looking for a dog park. Picked this on Google maps and realized it was in a gated community. Had to scan our ID and we were allowed in but there are probably others nearby where you can avoid the fuss. It has a small and large dog area AND a small separate dog lake! Large dog area has agility equipment.

We arrived to find gates locked and a sign indicating that a fob was needed to purchsse first. No mention of that we could find in park web page. The fact that im disabled and the dog park is located in the middle of the park while the baseball diamonds are right when you drive in was not lost on me. Just really another oversight on those that look at disabled citizens as second class citizens while granting sports enthusiasts as “ Special Citizens “. I wasn’t born disabled and every day i fight to get back to even but now have a better understanding of helping those that are.

Great park but very little shade. Better in the morning or evening for sure. The dog lake is a great feature.
