Decent dog park, but a little hidden. There needs to be more signs on the main roads. Pretty clean in the park, but the area just seems so shady and lonesome. There is an old hockey rink and construction trucks next to the park. Just be cautious driving and walking in.

Welcome to Bergenfield Dog Park
For dog owners across New Jersey, and especially those in Bergen County, finding a convenient and welcoming space for their furry friends to run, play, and socialize off-leash is a valuable asset. The Bergenfield Dog Park stands as a key local resource, offering a dedicated environment where dogs can enjoy freedom and interact with fellow canines in a contained setting. While it may have its unique characteristics, its role in providing essential recreational opportunities for Bergenfield’s canine residents is clear.
The importance of a designated dog park cannot be overstated. It allows dogs to expend pent-up energy, practice vital social skills, and benefit from the mental stimulation that comes with exploring a new, dynamic environment. For New Jersey residents in and around Bergenfield, this park serves as a regular destination for daily exercise and fostering a sense of community among local pet parents.
The Bergenfield Dog Park is located in Bergenfield, NJ 07621, USA. More specifically, it is situated within Veterans Memorial Park in Bergenfield, accessible from 2 Aladdin Ave in Dumont, NJ 07628. While the address might seem slightly varied across different listings (Bergenfield vs. Dumont address), it's important to recognize that the park serves the Bergenfield community and is a part of its municipal offerings.
Accessibility to the park is generally straightforward, though some users note that it can be "a little hidden" and suggest "more signs on the main roads." This implies that while it's in a central location for the local area, first-time visitors might benefit from using GPS or looking out for specific park signage. Ample parking is typically available, making it convenient for visitors to bring their dogs for a session of off-leash play. Being part of Veterans Memorial Park, it integrates into a broader recreational area, although the dog park itself is a distinct, fenced-off section.
The Bergenfield Dog Park primarily offers a dedicated, fenced-in space for off-leash dog play. While it does not provide commercial "services" like professional grooming or training classes, its core offerings are invaluable to local dog owners:
- Designated Off-Leash Play Areas: The park features spacious, fenced-in areas where dogs can run freely without a leash. This is the primary function, allowing for vital exercise and natural canine behavior.
- Separated Areas for Dog Sizes: The park is designed with distinct sections, typically for large and small dogs, to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors. This separation allows dogs to play with peers of similar size and energy levels, reducing the risk of accidental injury.
- Benches for Owners: For the comfort of human companions, the park is equipped with benches. These provide a place to sit, relax, and supervise your dog's play, fostering social interaction among owners as well.
- Waste Bag Stations (Implied/Expected): While not explicitly detailed in all public descriptions, well-maintained municipal dog parks like Bergenfield typically provide waste bag dispensers and trash receptacles. This encourages responsible pet ownership and helps keep the park clean for all users. Visitors are always advised to bring their own waste bags, just in case.
- Community Gathering Space: Beyond physical amenities, the park facilitates a "friendly dog owners and dogs" environment, fostering a community where regulars can connect and dogs can socialize.
What makes Bergenfield Dog Park a notable spot for New Jersey dog owners?
- Dedicated Off-Leash Freedom: The most significant feature is the provision of a secure, fenced area where dogs can legally and safely be off-leash. This is a vital resource in a suburban environment, allowing dogs to run and play in ways not possible on leash walks.
- Size-Specific Play Zones: The presence of separate areas for different dog sizes is a key highlight, promoting safer and more comfortable interactions for all dogs, from the smallest to the largest breeds.
- Generally Clean Environment: Reviews indicate the park is "pretty clean," which speaks to either good maintenance by the municipality or diligent efforts by park users to clean up after their pets. This cleanliness is crucial for a pleasant experience.
- Friendly Community: Many visitors highlight the presence of "lots of friendly dog owners and dogs." This fosters a welcoming social atmosphere, making visits enjoyable for both pets and their human companions.
- Year-Round Use: As an outdoor facility, the park is accessible year-round, weather permitting, offering consistent opportunities for dog exercise and socialization regardless of the season.
- Part of a Larger Park: Being situated within Veterans Memorial Park means the dog park benefits from the overall infrastructure and management of a municipal park system.
As a public municipal park facility operated by the Borough of Bergenfield, the Bergenfield Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Its primary "offer" is its availability as a free and accessible public amenity for dog owners in the community. Information from the Borough of Bergenfield indicates that dogs are allowed in Veterans Memorial Park to access the dog park as set forth in the ordinance, with no mention of specific fees for usage, though proper dog licensing and rabies vaccination are generally required for all dogs within the borough.
The "promotion" here is the consistent provision of a well-maintained space for canine recreation without a direct entry fee. Any specific community events or initiatives related to the park (such as a local dog-friendly festival or a park clean-up day) would typically be announced through the Borough of Bergenfield's official channels, including their Recreation Department. The significant value for locals lies in having a readily available and free resource for their dogs' exercise and social needs.
For inquiries regarding the Bergenfield Dog Park, including specific rules, maintenance concerns, or general information about Bergenfield's parks, you can reach out to the relevant municipal department.

For New Jersey residents, particularly those in Bergenfield and the surrounding areas of Bergen County, the Bergenfield Dog Park is a highly suitable and beneficial local amenity. Despite being described by some as "a little hidden" or in a "shady and lonesome" area (perhaps due to its proximity to an old hockey rink or construction), its core offering of a dedicated, fenced, off-leash space for dogs is invaluable. The separation of large and small dog areas is a key feature that promotes safe and enjoyable play for all canines, catering to diverse needs within the community.
The friendly atmosphere, characterized by "lots of friendly dog owners and dogs," means that visits often turn into pleasant social occasions for both pets and their humans. While some users might wish for more elaborate "obstacle course" features, the park perfectly fulfills its primary purpose: providing ample space for fetch and free-form play. The fact that it's a municipal park and generally well-maintained (as indicated by cleanliness reviews) underscores its reliability as a community resource. For local New Jersey dog owners seeking a dependable, clean, and community-oriented environment for their pets to exercise and socialize freely, Bergenfield Dog Park remains a highly practical and appreciated local option.

Oct 06, 2019 · De DiLove this place. Lots of friendly dog owners and dogs. Weekends kind of slow. Wish there was more than a rock for dogs to interact with. Maybe like a little supplemental obstacle course would be nice. Bc if you come here when theres no other dogs with your dog theres not much else to do besides fetch.
Apr 14, 2025 · AllieBig enough, enough parking spot, very tall fence and secured gates. Little pebbles ground.
Nov 21, 2024 · manuela cocchisIt's not very visible if you are not from the local. very nice to have a place for the furry friends to play and run. The ground is hard gravel. It does get hot when it's a hot day. So be prepared to bring water for your furry babies. There are 2 sides of the fences. One for the 25 pounds plus, one for the under. In any case, it's a great place for the kids to enjoy!
Jul 26, 2021 · Rorpin DongUpdated: most of the issues below have been addressed. Glad to have the park so close to home. I bring my two dogs here regularly. The latch on the first door into the large dog run is broken. The latch on the large entrance is oversized for the pole and is not secured in any way. The fences were not secured properly into the ground, which meant they had to add wood around the bottom of both runs. While I love having this close to home, they used the cheapest possible materials, from the locks to the waste receptacles, and the fencing and was built as cheap as possible. One quarter of the large run is starting to be overrun with weeds. No one seems to be maintaining the park. I have started a Facebook group - Bergenfield Dog Park. Please join. Hopefully over time it's upgraded and they fix whats not right.
