Welcome to Bartlett Dog Park

For dog owners in Memphis, Tennessee, particularly those residing in the Bartlett area, finding an expansive and accommodating space for their canine companions to run, play, and socialize is a true delight. Bartlett Dog Park, located at 5220 Shelter Run Ln, stands out as a significant local resource, praised for its generous size and thoughtful amenities. It offers a dedicated environment where dogs can truly stretch their legs and interact freely, away from the constraints of leashes and crowded city spaces.

This park is often highlighted for its considerable space, providing ample room for dogs of all sizes to roam without feeling confined. A standout feature, particularly appreciated in the Tennessee climate, is the "LOT of shade" available, offering respite from the sun for both pups and their human companions. The thoughtful inclusion of separate areas for large and small dogs is a major plus, ensuring that every dog, from a tiny terrier to a giant breed, can enjoy safe and appropriate play. While cleanliness can sometimes be a community effort, with reminders for owners to pick up after their pets, the fundamental infrastructure and natural beauty of Bartlett Dog Park make it a "wonderful place" and a valuable asset for local dog lovers.

Bartlett Dog Park is conveniently located at 5220 Shelter Run Ln, Memphis, TN 38135, USA. While the address technically falls within Memphis city limits, this location places it firmly within the Bartlett community, adjacent to the Bartlett Animal Shelter. This makes it easily accessible for residents of Bartlett and surrounding areas, including parts of Northeast Memphis and Lakeland. Its suburban setting often allows for easier access and more parking than some downtown urban dog parks.

The park's accessibility is excellent, with readily available parking usually noted as ample. Bartlett Dog Park operates from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM, seven days a week, offering broad hours for visits during various times of the day, including cooler mornings and evenings. The double-gated entry system provides an added layer of security, ensuring dogs cannot easily slip out. Its location next to the animal shelter can also be a point of interest for some visitors, possibly suggesting integrated services or events. The overall setup aims for a hassle-free experience for dog owners looking for a consistent and reliable off-leash space.

Services Offered:

  • Separate Off-Leash Areas: The park features distinct, fenced-in sections for large dogs and small dogs. This crucial separation allows for safer and more comfortable play, accommodating the different energy levels and play styles of various breeds.
  • Water Access for Dogs: Water baths are available, serving as a refreshing amenity for dogs. While their primary purpose (drinking vs. wading) might be open to interpretation by users, their presence helps keep dogs cool and hydrated.
  • Waste Disposal Stations: The park is equipped with doggie waste bags to encourage responsible pet cleanup, although adherence to this is noted as varying among visitors.
  • Ample Seating with Shade: Numerous benches and shaded areas provide comfortable spots for human companions to relax and supervise their dogs, offering much-needed relief from the sun.
  • Playground for Children: The inclusion of a playground adjacent to or within the larger park complex means families with both dogs and children can enjoy an outing, catering to multiple recreational needs.
  • Double-Gated Entry: A secure double-gated entrance system helps prevent dogs from escaping accidentally and ensures a controlled entry and exit for pets and owners.

Features / Highlights:

  • Generous Size: One of the most praised features is its large size, providing ample room for dogs to run, explore, and play without feeling cramped. This is particularly beneficial for high-energy breeds.
  • Abundant Shade: The presence of "a LOT of shade" is a significant highlight, offering natural cooling and protection from the sun, which is invaluable during Tennessee's warm months. This makes visits more comfortable for both dogs and owners.
  • Forested and Lawn Areas: The park combines grassy lawn areas for open play with forested sections, offering varied terrain for exploration and sniff adventures.
  • Community-Oriented Space: Despite some individual comments about attendance, the park is designed to foster community interaction among dog owners, providing a consistent place for pets and people to meet.
  • Equipment for Dogs: While details are limited, some mentions suggest equipment for dogs to play on, adding an extra element of engagement.
  • Proximity to Animal Shelter: Being adjacent to the Bartlett Animal Shelter can be a unique feature, potentially allowing for collaboration on events or simply serving as a convenient landmark.

As a municipal public park, Bartlett Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions or special offers" in the retail sense. However, the City of Bartlett Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Bartlett Animal Shelter, frequently hosts community events that are highly relevant to dog owners.

A notable example is the annual "Bark-B-Q," which has historically been held at or near the Bartlett Dog Park. This event often features:

  • Low-cost microchipping and rabies vaccinations.
  • Pet adoptions from the Bartlett Animal Shelter.
  • Vendor booths from local pet businesses and organizations.
  • Demonstrations, such as by the Bartlett Police K9 Unit.
  • Fun activities and giveaways for pets and their owners.

To stay informed about such valuable events, it is highly recommended that locals:

  • Visit the official City of Bartlett website (cityofbartlett.org), specifically their "Animal Services" and "Parks & Recreation" sections, and their community events calendar.
  • Follow the City of Bartlett Animal Shelter's social media pages for announcements on adoption drives, clinics, and pet-focused gatherings.
  • Check local Memphis/Bartlett community calendars and pet-friendly event listings.

These events provide excellent opportunities for local dog owners to access affordable pet services, discover new products, and engage with the vibrant pet-loving community in Bartlett.

A wonderful place! It’s large enough for dogs to roam but it’s not so large that they will get lost. There is a LOT of shade and a playground! They also have water baths available, I’m not sure if it’s purpose is for drinking for just for laying in. There’s a separate space for large dogs and small dogs which is great for me because I have a giant breed dog. My only complaint is that no one really goes here...I wish more people would because it’s a great spot!

Nice little neighborhood spot! Quite a bit of space. Off-leash is also allowed.

Great park for big and small dogs. Lots of room for the pups to run. Since the city pound is next door it's very noisy there from all the dogs barking there. In the small dog area not many owners clean up after their dog. They do have waste bags and a trash can on-site.
