They just "Re-seeded" the large dog side of the park only. 6 inches deep!! Very unsafe for dogs and owners trying to play ball or any fetching. Plus, as you can see in photos, the dogs prefer the outer ring off the pee gravel. Then, loose gravel all over sidewalk, making it a unsaplace to walk. Terrible idea!!!!

Welcome to Anamax Dog Park
For dog owners across Arizona, particularly those residing in the welcoming community of Sahuarita, finding a reliable and engaging outdoor space for their canine companions is essential. The unique desert climate of Southern Arizona necessitates thoughtful planning for pet exercise, making dedicated dog parks an invaluable community asset. Anamax Dog Park, nestled within the expansive Anamax Park in Sahuarita, AZ, stands as a prime example of such a resource – a place where dogs can enjoy the freedom of off-leash play in a secure and welcoming environment.
This article is specifically designed for the residents of Arizona, providing a clear, engaging, and informative overview of Anamax Dog Park. We'll delve into what makes this park a fantastic option for local dog owners, covering its key features, available amenities, and why it has earned a place as a cherished spot within the Sahuarita community. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive guide that highlights the park's benefits from the perspective of an Arizonan seeking quality outdoor experiences for their beloved pets.
Anamax Dog Park is an integral part of the larger Anamax Park, which is overseen by the Town of Sahuarita Parks & Recreation Department. This public park system plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for all Sahuarita residents, including its significant pet-owning population. The existence and maintenance of dedicated dog parks like Anamax demonstrate the town's commitment to fostering a pet-friendly community and supporting responsible pet ownership.
From the viewpoint of a local dog owner in Arizona, having an accessible and well-equipped off-leash area is immensely beneficial. The warm climate means dogs need space to exercise where they can manage heat effectively, and a dedicated park provides that. Anamax Dog Park offers a consistent and safe venue for dogs to burn off energy, which is vital not only for their physical health but also for their behavioral well-being. For those living in homes without expansive yards, or even those with plenty of space who desire canine socialization, Anamax Dog Park provides a much-needed expanse where dogs can truly stretch their legs, play fetch, and interact with other dogs.
The feedback from visitors often highlights the sense of community present at the park, with friendly pups and owners creating a pleasant atmosphere. While there have been recent discussions regarding re-seeding and surface materials, which is a common challenge in maintaining grass in arid climates, the park continues to serve as a vital community gathering spot for pets. It's important for local users to stay informed about any temporary conditions, such as recent re-seeding, and adjust their visits accordingly, perhaps focusing on areas less affected or bringing appropriate gear like dog booties for hot surfaces.
In essence, Anamax Dog Park is more than just a fenced enclosure; it’s a vibrant community hub within the larger Anamax Park complex. It represents Sahuarita’s dedication to providing excellent recreational opportunities for all its residents, including those with four paws, contributing significantly to the health, happiness, and social integration of dogs within our Arizona community.
Anamax Dog Park is situated within the larger Anamax Park, specifically located at 17501 S Camino De Las Quintas, Sahuarita, AZ 85629, USA. While the provided "W Camino Mazatlan" address may also be associated with the broader park area, the Camino De Las Quintas address is commonly cited for the main recreation center and park access, including the dog park. This central location positions it conveniently within Sahuarita, making it a highly accessible spot for local residents and those from nearby areas in Southern Arizona.
For Arizonans living in Sahuarita, reaching Anamax Dog Park is generally straightforward. As part of a larger park complex, it benefits from clear signage and established infrastructure. User reviews note "ample parking," suggesting that finding a spot for your vehicle is rarely an issue, even during busier times. One helpful tip from a local reviewer suggests, "Use the last entrance to get there if that's what you choose to do" for easier access to the dog park specifically, indicating good local knowledge for optimal navigation within the large park area.
The park's integration within Anamax Park also means visitors have access to other amenities within the larger recreational area, such as children's playgrounds, athletic fields (including baseball fields with bright lights for evening use), and picnic areas. This allows for a multi-faceted outing, where families can enjoy various activities while their dogs play. The park is managed by the Town of Sahuarita Parks & Recreation Department, ensuring it adheres to public park standards for accessibility and maintenance.
Anamax Dog Park typically operates with generous hours, generally from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, though the Anamax Recreation Center, often co-located, may have different hours (e.g., 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM). It's always best to confirm the specific dog park hours. This extensive timeframe is a significant benefit for Arizona locals, allowing for visits during the cooler morning or evening hours, which is crucial during the hotter parts of the year. This flexibility ensures that pet owners can provide consistent exercise for their dogs regardless of their daily schedules.
Anamax Dog Park provides a range of essential services designed to ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience for dogs and their owners. These core offerings are what make this public amenity a valuable resource in the Sahuarita community.
Fully Fenced Off-Leash Areas: The primary service is the provision of securely fenced enclosures where dogs can run, play, and interact freely off-leash. This freedom is vital for their physical and mental well-being, allowing them to engage in natural canine behaviors in a controlled environment. The park is described as being "just under an acre" in total size.
Separate Areas for Large and Small Dogs: A crucial feature highlighted by multiple sources is the division of the dog park into separate sections for large and small breeds. This service enhances safety and comfort, allowing smaller, more timid dogs to play without being overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous companions, and vice versa. Each side typically has its own separate gate for entry.
Water Fountains/Stations with Bowls: The park provides access to clean drinking water for dogs. Reviews confirm the presence of "two drinking fountains with dog bowls," ensuring dogs can stay hydrated during active play, which is particularly important in Arizona's climate. Users also often bring their own filtered water as an additional measure.
Pet Waste Stations with Bags/Scoopers: To maintain cleanliness and hygiene, the park is well-equipped with pet waste stations. Reviewers mention "poop scoops / scoopers are plentiful," making it convenient for owners to fulfill their responsibility of cleaning up after their dogs, thus keeping the park pleasant for all users.
Shaded Seating Areas: The park features "a nice shelter with benches and shaded trees," or ramadas. These shaded areas are invaluable in the Arizona sun, providing comfortable spots for owners to relax and supervise their dogs while offering crucial relief from the heat.
Agility Equipment: Anamax Dog Park offers some "agility equipment," allowing dogs to engage in stimulating activities beyond just running. This provides mental and physical challenges that can enhance a dog's visit and allow owners to practice tricks or basic obedience.
Public Restrooms Nearby: As part of the larger Anamax Park, restrooms are generally available within the park complex, though specific proximity to the dog park may vary. One review noted temporary bathroom issues in the larger park, but access to facilities is a general amenity of Anamax Park.
Anamax Dog Park in Sahuarita, AZ, boasts several features that contribute to its appeal and effectiveness as a community dog park. These highlights enhance the experience for both canine and human visitors, making it a favored spot for locals.
Dedicated Separate Areas for All Sizes: A significant highlight is the clear division between large and small dog play areas. This thoughtful design minimizes potential conflicts and allows dogs to interact safely within their appropriate size groups, making it comfortable for timid small dogs and boisterous large dogs alike.
Mix of Surfaces (Grass/Gravel): The park features a varied terrain, described as "a grass center surrounded by granite" or "half grass and half gravel." While the recent re-seeding of the large dog side (creating a "6 inches deep" layer) has temporarily presented challenges for play and walking, the presence of grass offers a softer surface when established, while gravel provides durability and helps with drainage. This mixed terrain, when fully usable, caters to different play styles.
Abundant Shade Structures: In Arizona, shade is paramount. Anamax Dog Park provides "ramadas" and "shaded trees," offering crucial respite from the sun for both dogs and their owners, making visits more comfortable, especially during warmer times of the day.
Integration within Anamax Park Complex: Being part of the larger Anamax Park complex is a major highlight. This means visitors have access to a wider range of amenities, including children's playgrounds, baseball fields (with bright lights for evening use), a snack bar, picnic areas, and walking trails. This allows for a multi-faceted outing, where families can enjoy various activities while their dogs play.
Active Community and Friendly Atmosphere: Reviews often highlight a positive social environment. Despite the recent re-seeding issues on the large dog side, overall sentiment from previous reviews indicates "people are lovely and dogs behaved," suggesting a generally friendly atmosphere among regulars. This fosters a sense of community among pet owners.
Comprehensive Amenities: Beyond the play areas, the park provides essential amenities like multiple water stations, plentiful poop scoops, and comfortable seating, all contributing to a convenient and responsible dog park experience.
Agility Equipment: The presence of agility elements adds an engaging dimension to the park, allowing for more structured play and mental stimulation for dogs.
As a public amenity operated by the Town of Sahuarita Parks & Recreation Department, Anamax Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional sense, such as discounts or loyalty programs for park entry. The fundamental "offer" is the free and open access to a well-maintained and secure environment for dogs to play off-leash.
However, users of Anamax Dog Park, being part of the wider Sahuarita Parks & Recreation system, might indirectly benefit from or find value in related community "offers" or opportunities:
Community Events at Anamax Park: The Town of Sahuarita Parks & Recreation Department frequently hosts various community events within Anamax Park or other facilities. While not always directly at the dog park, these events might occasionally be pet-friendly or offer information relevant to pet owners in the area. Keeping an eye on the Town of Sahuarita's official website or social media channels for announcements is advisable. The review mentioning "Sahuarita Festival" highlights how the park transforms for community events.
Recreation Center Programs: The Anamax Recreation Center, located within the same park complex, offers various classes and activities for residents. While not dog-specific, participation in these programs might align with a visit to the dog park, providing a comprehensive outing. Some programs might even be indirectly related to pet well-being or community engagement.
Snack Bar Specials: One reviewer enthusiastically mentioned the "snack bar" at the baseball fields, noting "hot dogs don't even fit in the bun" and "team specials." While not a direct dog park promotion, this means families can grab convenient food or drinks during their visit to the larger park, adding to the overall family-friendly experience.
It's important to remember that the primary value of Anamax Dog Park is its consistent and no-cost provision of a safe and stimulating environment for dogs. Any additional community-led initiatives or shared resources from the broader park are a bonus to its fundamental utility.

Local users, by staying informed, can navigate these periods and continue to enjoy the park's benefits.
Furthermore, the integration of the dog park within the broader Anamax Park complex offers a unique advantage. Families can combine their dog's playtime with visits to the children's playgrounds, athletic fields (including impressive baseball fields with night lights), or the snack bar, creating a comprehensive outing for everyone. Apr 18, 2025 · Robert Rascon SrTook our dog to the large dog park. The park is clean and well maintained. There is plenty of water and shade. Just wish there were no rocks. Dirt would be better than rocks to run on.
Feb 21, 2025 · Douglas SMy first time at a dog park. To me, the facilities were excellent. Water for both humans and dogs, plenty of dog bowls. There are two areas, one for small dogs and one for large active dogs. There is free Wi-Fi here and a place to sit in the shade. The grass is well kept and there's a rock perimeter around the main grassy area. There's a short hose by the drinking fountain, which was nice because I could spray my dog down to cool her off. I was able to spend a little time here by myself. I wasn't sure how my yellow lab would do with other dogs. Several other people showed up and she did great with them. Everyone was nice and I had a great conversations.
