I am writing this review for a very unusual reason - to appreciate kindness and compassion of the owner - Zach. I hope you will read it and understand. Some 18+ years ago, my kids started a 32-gallon aquarium and stocked with all kinds of fresh-water fish. As is usually the case, they were interested in only watching the fist, caring for aquarium and the fish became one of my duties. Over time, the fish population depleted (from natural causes) and the kids went to college. Ultimately, 6-7 years ago, there was only one fish left in the tank - a beautiful red-tail shark. I kept cleaning the tank and caring for the fish until I had two strokes. Even though it was hard for me and a family friend wanted to take the fish and the tank, I did not had the heart to do the deed. Unfortunately, last week, we had a ConEd melt-down (surge) which took all the fish tank equipment and a few other appliances. I was frantically looking for a new home for the fish (a practical decision) with no luck. I was visiting the local PetSmart to buy a smaller and more maintainable tank and was chatting with a customer in the store who shared his experience with Zoo Pet Center. He recommended that I call Zach (the owner) before buying a new tank. I am glad I did. I spoke with Zach and explained my situation to him. Zach is such a kind-hearted and wonderful person. He immediately agreed to foster my little one (actually pretty long and 18+ years old). Thanks Zach for your kindness.

This place was in business from the time I arrived to Peekskill in 2000. They moved after the pandemic years, and they are still in Washington St. But some blocks down. The same owner, the same cordially the same way to do business and help customers with a lot of experience and dedication to do what they like to do. I like that they have fish for salt water and regular water. The basic to start or add new fish for your tanks. I found a cute couple in a tank, dori and Nemo were there and some other ones, they have a small quantity of types of fish and reptiles but the ones you will love to have a d I not sure you may ask and they can find you the ones you like. Also, I hear they clean and maintenence your fish tanks, so call them to ask about this. It is local, easy to park. Both sides of the street Take a look if you are around and talk to an expert who will share with you all he knows about what he has to sell.

Not only is the owner, Z extremely professional but he's a kind and beautiful individual. I hired him to come to my business and assist with the maintenance of my saltwater aquarium and ever since we met I have been impressed with his work. He takes the time and makes sure everything that is done has been explained so I am aware of what to do etc. Very informative and honest. I trust him with the code to get in even when Noone is there. Great person for your saltwater needs for sure!

I wanted to like this local aquarium store as I've been getting deep into the hobby. After cycling a 10 gallon planted tank I walked in and specifically asked for fish that would be happy in a small tank like mine. They ended up suggesting 2 neon tetras and 2 rummy nose tetras. Over a month later the fish are doing ok, but still seem very skittish and scared. I did some research and everything I'm reading says that tetras need to be in schools of 6 or more. And that rummy nose tetras shouldn't be in a tank less than 20 gallons. I'm very mad that the "experts" at this store neglected to tell me these basic facts. I specifically came in looking for advice, and I feel like they just told me what I wanted to hear to make a sale. If you shop here make sure you do your research ahead of time and don't count on getting good advice. The store is also very cluttered and dirty. I would personally be ashamed to have tanks that look as bad as theirs do.

Go here! The owner, Z, is very knowledgable and friendly. It is clear from the way he wanted to understand my needs and desires for my aquarium before giving advice that he cares about the quality of life of both pet and pet owner. I own a small tank, so cleaning it is relatively easy; but if and when I get a larger tank, I would definitely seek out the aquarium service because of the care and knowledge Z brings to his clients and business.
