I purchased a puppy from here about a year ago, took him to our vet and he checked out fine. Puppy City did tell us he had arrived the day before we purchased him. Well fast forward, we purchased another puppy buy from the Harrisonburg location. This one had been at Puppy City for months. When we got him home and tried feeding him he wouldn't eat his dry food, he would kick it. We did get him some wet food and finally he ate. We took him to the vet on the third day and was told he has an eye infection, and the vet said ; " feel this, you can feel his spine and Collar bone". Which you could. The vet said he was under weight. I let them know he hadn't had a bowl movement in the 3 days we'd had him. The vet said he needs food in his system to have a bowl movement. They gave us medicine for his eye infection, said to keep it clean. I also let the vet know that when sleeping he would jerk and his breathing was very fast when sleeping. He told us do not put him in the creat, make sure he eats, clean his eyes, and keep a close eye on him. The vet said he didn't get this way overnight. I'm still happy I purchased him so we can try our best to help him. The vet said probably because he was at Puppy City for so long, being kept in the crate, smelling not only his own urine and poop but also the other puppies may affected his breathing. It really makes me sad that the puppies are kept in create for so long. We have 3 dogs total. The one we purchased a year ago, one we got from the SPCA ( she was in great health) and the puppy we just purchased and they all get along with each other. The one we just purchased was not only sick and underweight but also starving for attention. He is such a good boy and we love him so much already.

Puppy City Introduce

Welcome to the local introduction of Puppy City, a pet store located at 3343 Valley Pike, Winchester, VA 22602, USA, identified under the platform category "Pet Store Near Me." Puppy City specializes in the sale of puppies and, based on customer reviews, may also offer some initial supplies to new pet owners. You can reach them at (540) 773-3831 or their mobile number +1 540-773-3831 for inquiries about available puppies and their purchasing process.

Based on the limited but varying customer reviews available online, the experience at Puppy City can be somewhat mixed. It's important for local users considering purchasing a puppy from this store to be aware of both the positive and negative feedback shared by previous customers to make an informed decision.

One detailed review recounts a concerning experience with a puppy purchased from Puppy City's Harrisonburg location (though the review is posted under the Winchester address, it pertains to their sister store). This customer purchased a puppy that had been at Puppy City for several months. Upon bringing the puppy home, they noticed it wouldn't eat dry food and eventually discovered the puppy was underweight, had a noticeable spine and collarbone, and hadn't had a bowel movement in three days. A veterinary visit on the third day revealed an eye infection. The veterinarian suggested that the puppy's prolonged stay at Puppy City, potentially being kept in a crate and exposed to unsanitary conditions, might have affected its breathing. Despite these initial health issues, the reviewer expressed happiness in purchasing the puppy and a commitment to providing care. This review raises questions about the living conditions and health monitoring of puppies at Puppy City, particularly those who remain there for an extended period.

In contrast, two other reviews present more positive experiences. One customer, who had previously purchased a dog from Puppy City a year prior with no health issues, reported another "wonderful experience" when acquiring a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They described the staff as "always great," the place as "clean," and the puppies as "happy and appear healthy." This suggests that some customers have had positive interactions and received seemingly healthy puppies from Puppy City.

Another reviewer echoed this positive sentiment, stating they had "THE BEST EXPERIENCE!!!" They found the staff to be "very kind and helpful," and noted that "all of the puppies looked very happy, healthy and clean!" This review also highlighted the smoothness of the purchasing process and the benefit of "financing." Additionally, they mentioned that their puppy came with a crate, dog bowls, food, treats, and necessary drops, and was already microchipped, indicating that Puppy City may provide some initial supplies to new owners.

Considering these contrasting experiences, it is difficult to definitively describe the typical "environment" of Puppy City. One positive review mentions a "clean" place, while the negative review implies potential issues with hygiene and prolonged crating. It is likely that the environment may vary or that different customers have different perceptions or experiences.

The primary "service" offered by Puppy City is the sale of puppies. Based on the positive review, they may also assist with financing options for the purchase. Additionally, they seem to provide some initial supplies for the new puppy, such as a crate, food and water bowls, food, treats, and possibly necessary medications like eye drops. The fact that the puppy was already microchipped is another service provided before the sale.

The "features" of Puppy City, as perceived by customers, include a potentially friendly and helpful staff, the availability of financing, and the provision of some initial supplies with the purchased puppy. However, the negative review highlights a significant concern regarding the health and living conditions of puppies, particularly those who have been at the store for an extended time. The discrepancy in these reviews suggests that the quality of care and the health of the puppies might not be consistently high.

Currently, there is no specific "promotional information" available in the provided text. However, the mention of financing could be seen as a way to make puppy ownership more accessible to a wider range of customers.

For local users considering purchasing a puppy from Puppy City, it is strongly recommended to visit the store in person to assess the environment, observe the puppies, and interact with the staff. Potential buyers should inquire about the history of the puppy they are interested in, including how long it has been at the store, its vaccination and health records, and any guarantees or health checks offered before purchase. It would also be prudent to ask about their policies regarding veterinary checks after purchase and any support provided if health issues arise.

Given the serious concerns raised in one of the reviews regarding the health and potential living conditions of some puppies, prospective buyers might also want to inquire about the store's sourcing practices, how the puppies are housed and cared for on a daily basis, and the protocols they have in place for ensuring the health and well-being of their animals. Observing the puppies' behavior and physical condition during a visit can also provide valuable insights.

In conclusion, Puppy City in Winchester, VA, is a pet store specializing in puppies that has received mixed reviews from customers. While some have reported positive experiences with friendly staff, clean facilities, and seemingly healthy puppies, one detailed review raises significant concerns about the potential for health issues and inadequate care, particularly for puppies housed at the store for extended periods. Local users considering purchasing a puppy from Puppy City should exercise caution, conduct thorough due diligence by visiting the store, asking detailed questions, and potentially seeking advice from a trusted veterinarian before making a decision.

I come in here all the time, and may I just say, please hire new employees. Every employee that has worked here in the past year has been nothing but rude, judgmental, and unwelcoming to guests, unless they are forced to be kind when a client wants to purchase a puppy. The most recent time coming, I was judged from the second I entered the shop, and I could tell it was by my age (I’m 22). My boyfriend and I come here all the time and will be looking for a puppy in the near future, and we will definitely NOT be returning to this establishment and will not be considering it after these experiences. Management, please consider speaking to your employees on their customer service and manners. The kinder they are, the more successful this company will be in selling the puppies. *We visited the same day this comment was posted.*

The employees weren't welcoming at all, my bf and I just visited to look for a puppy and one of the workers were cleaning bc it is about 1 hour and 30 minutes before closing so that I understand but the energy in that place wasn't saying "take your time and enjoy yourself" instead it said "hurry and buy something or leave". I probably wouldnt consider coming back until they got new employees. *This took place on the evening of March 8th, 2025. Around 6pm

I purchased my first puppy ever from this place on Dec 3, 2022. I was a little frustrated with the process this company had in place when your puppy might have any issues. However, even though my puppy had Giardia, this company reimbursed me for all medical tests and medication needed to aid in my puppy’s health. Tom, the owner, was very nice once I got a chance to speak with him directly. — I have since referred two people who wants puppies to purchase from this place.
