What disgusting treatment of animals! My girlfriend and I wandered in before visiting Trader Joe's next door. When we looked at the bird, the conures were suffering in vile conditions. The water in all of the cages was filthy. The cage of one had poop splattered all over the walls. That bird kept stepping and rubbing against her own excrement. The cages were small, dark, and lacked bird baths, and must have smelled terrible inside the glass. One of the birds pressed against the glass, and kept desperately trying to push through to reach me. The parakeets, which are smaller, got a bigger cage all together that was kept cleaner since it was more visible. Meanwhile, the larger birds had an 8th of the space and no ability to socialize with other birds. The employees were all apathetic. My girlfriend talked to one, who said he'd do something then didn't. Then I spoke to a manager who was dumping cat litter into a big bin--she was eager to get rid of me and directed me to another manager. That guy didn't seem to care and just wanted to get rid of me. How can you work in a pet store and not care about the lives of the animals in your care? We called Petco's customer service line and they were just low-wage employees outsourced from-off countries and were following a basic script. Please, don't purchase from Petco. Especially don't purchase birds. The $1,000+ people pay per bird is what motivates Petco to harm these innocent creatures. Send that money to people who help animals, like Leslie Howe at the Toucan Rescue Ranch in Costa Rica.

Petco Introduce
Welcome to Petco, a national pet store chain with a location at 165 N McDowell Blvd in Petaluma, California. As a Pet Store Near You, we generally offer a wide variety of pet supplies and services. However, it is important for local users to be aware of serious concerns raised by multiple customers regarding the welfare of the animals at this specific location.
The environment of this Petaluma Petco has been described negatively in relation to the living conditions of the animals, particularly the birds. Reviewers reported seeing conures suffering in filthy cages with dirty water and excrement splattered on the walls. The cages were noted as being small, dark, and lacking bird baths. One reviewer expressed distress at a bird desperately trying to reach them through the glass. In contrast, parakeets were housed in a larger, cleaner cage. The larger birds reportedly had very limited space and no opportunity for socialization.
The services and goods for sale at Petco typically include a wide range of pet supplies for dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, and birds. The store in Petaluma is acknowledged for having a large variety of these products. However, a significant concern is the reported apathetic attitude of the employees and management when animal welfare issues were brought to their attention. Customers who tried to address the poor living conditions of the birds felt dismissed and that their concerns were not taken seriously. Attempts to contact Petco's customer service were also reportedly unhelpful. One reviewer strongly advises against purchasing animals, especially birds, from Petco due to these observed conditions.
A key feature mentioned is the wide variety of products available for different types of pets, and the prices are said to be comparable to other major pet supply retailers. However, this is overshadowed by the serious allegations of animal mistreatment and neglect, particularly concerning the birds. The lack of helpfulness from the staff and management when these issues were raised is a significant concern for potential customers who prioritize ethical treatment of animals. The stark contrast between the availability of products and the reported poor animal welfare creates a complex picture for local users.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for this Petaluma Petco location mentioned in the reviews. However, the critical feedback regarding the living conditions of the animals, especially birds, and the unhelpful response from staff should be a major consideration for local users in Petaluma, CA, when deciding where to purchase their pet supplies and especially when considering purchasing live animals. For any inquiries, you can contact them at (707) 775-3149 or +1 707-775-3149, but be aware of the serious concerns raised by fellow pet lovers.

Dec 09, 2024 · Chad ElliotStaff isn’t the most helpful. The store is nice and has a large variety of products. If you know what you need then you can be in n out. Nice selection or products for dogs , cats , fish , reptiles and birds. Prices are comparable with pet smart or tractor supply.
Mar 21, 2025 · Casey MonahanSome of the staff at the front counter are just weird or picky about bagging and selling crickets. I've been denied crickets before because the cashier didn't want to pick through the bottom of the bin for them Today I got denied even though they had a huge 10 gal can full of large crickets but they are only for in-house use, wouldn't even sell me 10. Customer service isn't really on point with them. I'd suggest going local and visit Rivertown Feed & Pet Country Store, super nice staff, small local business.
Feb 18, 2025 · Joel ReynoldsI ordered for pick up and the girl who helped me at the front was doing a fantastic job. I didn't catch her name, but she had short black hair and a gold nose ring, I think she actually worked in the vet tech part of the store. But she put everything down to help me with my order. She was so very nice and super fast. She's working her butt off!! 10/10 customer service from her!
Nov 14, 2024 · Joycie AnnI came in looking just for a quick few cans of food, but found a cute harness for my dog. I couldn’t figure out how to use it in the manager and cashier went out of their way to fit it onto my dog and show both of us a lot of love. It was a really good experience and we love our harness and Petco Petaluma
