It is a family owned store and Shawn is a wonderful person to get to meet. Has been knowledgeable on many occasions about the different animals that are sold. When the animals are in their care ( I’ve been going to the store sence I was little) they take care of them till they go to their homes.

Pet Zone Introduce
For local residents in Marion, OH, Pet Zone is a pet store situated at 1620 Marion-Mt Gilead Rd, Marion, OH 43302, USA. Operating under the platform category "Pet Store Near Me," Pet Zone can be contacted at (740) 389-6119 or +1 740-389-6119. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Pet Zone based on available customer reviews, covering aspects such as the store's environment, services, features, and any mentioned pricing or animal welfare concerns. It's important to note that this introduction is based solely on the provided feedback and may not encompass the full spectrum of experiences at Pet Zone.
One customer review offers a positive perspective, highlighting that Pet Zone is a family-owned store and specifically mentioning Shawn as a "wonderful person" to meet. This reviewer, who has been visiting the store since childhood, attests to Shawn's knowledge regarding the various animals sold. Furthermore, they commend the store's care for the animals while they are housed at Pet Zone, emphasizing that they are well-looked-after until they are adopted into new homes. This suggests a potentially caring and knowledgeable staff, particularly Shawn, and a focus on animal well-being during their stay at the store. The long-term patronage of this reviewer implies a degree of consistent positive experiences over time.
However, another customer review presents a starkly contrasting experience. This feedback raises significant concerns regarding the condition of the animal enclosures, specifically mentioning that the tanks were "all dirty" and that many of the fish were either dying or already dead. This paints a concerning picture of the environment in which the aquatic animals are kept. Additionally, this reviewer recounts an interaction where a customer was expressing concern about a sick animal purchased from Pet Zone the previous week, to which an employee allegedly dismissed the concerns and contradicted a veterinarian's opinion. Such an interaction, if accurate, could indicate a lack of proper attention to animal health issues and potentially dismissive customer service when health problems arise.
Beyond the welfare of the animals, this negative review also criticizes the pricing of the store's items. The reviewer claims that the prices for tanks, decorations, and other supplies were significantly inflated, described as "double if not triple the price" compared to other retailers. This suggests that Pet Zone might not be the most economically competitive option for pet-related purchases in the area. Based on their negative experience, this reviewer strongly advises others not to waste their time, money, or emotions on Pet Zone.
Considering these two contrasting reviews, it is challenging to form a definitive overall picture of Pet Zone. The positive review emphasizes the family-owned nature of the store, the knowledge and helpfulness of at least one staff member (Shawn), and a perceived commitment to animal care while in the store. This suggests that there may be positive aspects to Pet Zone, particularly in terms of staff interaction and perhaps the handling of animals before sale.
Conversely, the negative review raises serious red flags concerning the cleanliness and health of the animals, particularly the fish, as well as potentially problematic customer service regarding animal health issues and significantly higher pricing compared to competitors. These are critical factors that potential customers would need to consider carefully.
Given the conflicting feedback, local users in Marion, OH, who are considering Pet Zone as their "Pet Store Near Me" should approach with caution. It might be prudent to visit the store in person to assess the environment, particularly the conditions of the animal enclosures, and to inquire about their policies on animal health and returns. Comparing prices of supplies with other pet stores in the area would also be a wise step to make informed purchasing decisions.
It is also important to remember that online reviews represent individual experiences and may not reflect the entirety of what Pet Zone offers or the experiences of all customers. However, the stark contrast between the two available reviews suggests potential inconsistencies in the store's operations or customer service. The lack of information regarding specific services offered (beyond the sale of animals and supplies), the overall environment of the store (beyond the cleanliness concerns raised), any unique features, or promotional information further limits a comprehensive introduction.
In conclusion, Pet Zone in Marion, OH, appears to be a family-owned pet store with at least one knowledgeable and caring staff member. However, recent feedback also highlights significant concerns about the cleanliness and health of the animals, particularly fish, potentially dismissive responses to customer concerns about animal health, and considerably higher prices on supplies. Local users are advised to conduct their own assessment of the store before making any purchases or acquiring pets from this location.

Feb 12, 2025 · Shaina ColbyTanks were all dirty and the fish were all either dying or dead. When we came in a lady was there talking about how her animal she purchased there the week prior is horribly sick to which the employee said it was fine and the vet was wrong. Tanks, decor & supplies were double if not triple the price. Don’t wait your time, money or emotions on this place.
Apr 01, 2023 · Sarah EPlease don’t support this business! Staff was friendly enough, a bit pushy and condescending but I was very disappointed in the care of the animals. The enclosures and care standards are deplorable. Reptiles: are kept in tiny cages with no where to hide. This is extremely stressful for the poor babies. They also mix species and ages that should not be together. They had 2 adult ball pythons in with a juvenile boa! Gerbils: had a tiny wire wheel and small amount of wood shavings. Wire wheels cause many issues with feet and broken legs. They also had no hides and nothing to chew, which causes huge issues with incisor growth and dental disease. They also looked pretty sickly and were acting stressed and lethargic Hamsters: These poor babies were way too little. They had 5 babies in a very small enclosure. Again, no hides, chews, and not even a wheel for the hamsters. They looked to have some kind of upper respiratory issue Guinea pigs: no hides or enrichment and I didn’t see any trace of hay either which is a staple in their diet. All of them had ringworm as well. I don’t know how they are getting away with selling all of these sick animals.
Oct 27, 2022 · Riley WilliamsPet Zone I’m pretty sure; is the oldest standing pet store in our community. The staff is knowledgeable. Personally, I’ve been doing business with Pet Zone for years. I choose to shop local. Even if I can get a better price elsewhere. Local businesses deserve my loyalty. Especially when the owners and staff are loyal to their customers and suppliers.
Aug 23, 2024 · Christopher CulpWent into establishment about a week ago to get some crickets for my baby bearded dragon. I saw that the crickets were rather large so I voiced my concern to the owner about them being too big for my baby. He assured me they were not too big that he feeds them to his babies. He told me since they were so big that my beardie would only need one or two every other day. I figured it would be fine, that he knew what he was talking about. Fast forward a week and my bearded dragon is no longer alive because the crickets were indeed too big for him. He got an impaction from them. He couldn't digest them and he passed away. I will NEVER step foot in that place again. Beware of people who talk too much and think they know everything.
