I normally have a pleasant experience when shopping here but if you continue to employ rude teenagers who can’t apologize for leaving 3 bags of cat food right in the middle of the aisle where I was shopping that nearly caused me to trip and that when I said “thank you!” at the end of the transaction (not her) and her response was “mmhmm,” then I won’t be shopping here anymore. Please hire people with basic manners.

Pet Supermarket Introduce
For pet owners in Punta Gorda, Florida, seeking a "Pet Store Near Me," Pet Supermarket is located at 42081 Cypress Pkwy, Punta Gorda, FL 33982, USA. They can be contacted by phone at (941) 279-3043 or via mobile phone at +1 941-279-3043. Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at this Pet Supermarket location appear to be mixed, with feedback highlighting both positive and negative aspects of their service and animal care.
One customer reported a negative interaction concerning customer service. This individual, who stated they normally have pleasant experiences at the store, described an incident involving a staff member, identified as a teenager, who allegedly left bags of cat food in the middle of an aisle, nearly causing the customer to trip. The reviewer also noted what they perceived as a rude and dismissive response from the same staff member at the end of a transaction. This experience led the customer to express their intention to no longer shop at this location, emphasizing the importance of hiring staff with basic manners.
Another, more concerning review detailed a negative experience related to the welfare and sale of a bird, specifically a conure. This customer, an existing bird owner, noticed the conure exhibiting signs of stress plucking and being in poor condition. Upon inquiry, they learned that the bird had been housed in multiple Pet Supermarket locations for nearly two years. Motivated by concern for the bird's well-being, the customer attempted to purchase it. However, they described the store manager as "rude and defensive" and unwilling to negotiate a price, even when the customer called corporate. Despite the manager's claim of spending significant amounts on vet visits for the bird, she reportedly could not provide any veterinary paperwork and later allegedly admitted that she was not charged for the visit, contradicting her earlier statement.
The situation escalated when the manager reportedly denied the sale out of ego, prioritizing her authority over the bird's welfare. Following this denial, the customer claimed that the store hid the bird in the back room for three weeks, during which time its plucking worsened. After persistent efforts from the customer's husband and the involvement of the district manager, the conure was eventually sold. This reviewer strongly criticized the practice of selling animals in pet stores, citing the stress and lack of human interaction as inhumane conditions. They ultimately recommended reconsidering support for such businesses and suggested that better deals can be found on online platforms.
Based on these two reviews, it is challenging to provide a uniformly positive description of the environment and services at this Pet Supermarket location. The first review suggests potential issues with staff training and customer service etiquette. The second review raises significant concerns about the care and well-being of live animals sold at this store, as well as the management's handling of animal welfare issues and customer interactions related to these concerns.
While Pet Supermarket, as a chain, typically offers a wide range of pet supplies, including pet food, toys, grooming tools, and health products for various animals, these reviews provide limited insight into the specific environment and the quality of care for live animals at this particular Punta Gorda location. The negative review regarding the conure paints a picture of potentially inadequate care for at least one animal and raises questions about the overall standards for housing and managing live animals in this store.
The services typically offered by a pet store like Pet Supermarket often include the sale of live animals (such as fish, small mammals, birds, and reptiles), pet grooming services (though not mentioned specifically in these reviews for this location), and potentially adoption events in partnership with local shelters. However, the detailed review concerning the conure casts a shadow on the ethical implications of selling live animals in this environment, according to that customer's perspective.
Features of Pet Supermarket as a chain often include a wide selection of products, competitive pricing, and loyalty programs. However, the provided reviews for the Punta Gorda location do not offer specific details about pricing or loyalty programs. The negative experiences highlighted in the reviews, particularly the alleged mistreatment of the bird and the poor customer service interaction, could overshadow any potential positive features for some customers.
There is no information about specific promotional offers or events at the Pet Supermarket in Punta Gorda within the provided text. Customers interested in learning about any sales, discounts, or events at this location would need to visit the store directly, contact them by phone, or check the Pet Supermarket website or local advertisements for the Punta Gorda area.
In conclusion, the Pet Supermarket located at 42081 Cypress Pkwy in Punta Gorda, FL, is a "Pet Store Near Me" that offers pet supplies and, based on one review, sells live animals such as birds. However, recent customer feedback presents a mixed picture. One customer reported a negative experience with a rude staff member, while another detailed significant concerns regarding the welfare of a bird in the store and the unhelpful and allegedly dishonest behavior of the store manager. These reviews suggest that while the store may offer a range of pet products, potential customers, especially those interested in purchasing live animals, should exercise caution and consider visiting the store to assess the environment and the condition of the animals themselves. The lack of positive feedback regarding animal care in these reviews is a significant point for consideration for local pet owners.

Mar 19, 2025 · Melissa Sherman (The Sherman Defense)Stopped in with a friend, as a bird owner I always gravitate towards the birds, as I did this visit. I noticed a conure that I saw there a couple months back really took a turn. He started to stress pluck and was pretty bare. After speaking with the staff I learned he had lived in multiple petsupermarkets for nearly 2 years, I decided I would get him out of that horrible life, and bring him home with me. I made an offer to the store manager for him, which she declined and was very rude and defensive I spent 5 minutes on the phone with her which she ranted on and on and I was unable to even get a word in, I decided to call corporate to explain the situation and asked them if they could discount the bird. That wasn’t going to happen. I figured well, this poor guy is desperate, I’ll pay full price and get him out of there. Well, the following day I go in the store, I let the associate know I am there to purchase the conure, she happily gathers all the things needed and I ask her if she can supply the vet work that could prove he was healthy (the reason they wouldn’t discount is because the store manager claimed she spent 100’s on vet visits) the associate can’t seem to find any vet paperwork so she calls the store manager. The associate hands the phone to me and the manager says to me “ you don’t have rights to any of his paperwork, you do not own the bird. I don’t have paperwork because I WAS NOT CHARGED FOR THE VISIT” (1 of many lies she told me) I respond and say that I’m there purchasing him right now, and this is when she goes on a power trip and gets enraged and goes on her many rants and says “IM DENYING YOUR SALE” shows you how much she truly cares about the pets she selling right? Her ego is was more important than this poor stressed out bird. After this, they decide to hide the bird in the back room for 3 weeks where his plucking gets worse. For 3 whole weeks my husband was in and out trying to purchase him, eventually the district manager finally sold us the conure. Half of Babcock ranch was so enraged by his story they were all willing to go in to buy the bird for me, so for everyone there following his story here’s the update… He’s so happy in his new home with his brother he’s actually stopped plucking, not 1 feather in the bottom of his cage (check out the pictures) Pet supermarket, pet smart, petco, none of these businesses should be selling animals, locked up in cages with little to no human interaction. This story shows how stressed and inhumane pet stores are. Everyone should reconsider supporting these kinds of pet stores, plus you can get better deals on Amazon.
May 12, 2024 · Jacqueline TornatoreUpdate on my previous review and for the many others following his little story here’s some progress pictures. Reason 8462729 living animals do not belong in pet stores. After 2 years of bouncing around from one pet supermarket to another, from being HID in the back room to hide him from the negligent acts of pet supermarket. This guy is so happy, so healthy, and finally so loved. FULLY FEATHERED AGAIN. Despite the store manager trying to HIDE him and deny my purchase for no reason whatsoever, I’m here to prove my fight was worth it, he’s in his forever happy home. So proud of this little guy despite all the obstacles, he’s still such a sweet, loving bird. ❤️
Jun 24, 2024 · Jacqueline BarryGreat service multiple times in one day! We just got a new puppy and needed everything to get ready for him. Michelle was super kind and helped us with everything. The store cares everything you could need for all animals & stages. The second time we went in the same day together more items, we had a different sales person a super kind young lady who was extremely helpful. We look forward to being regular customers at this store, thank you!
May 07, 2024 · Annamaria EdmonsonThe Babcock Ranch location is so nice! Very clean, well set up, nice inventory, friendly & helpful staff. I buy Hill's can dog food so it's pricier anyhow, but the prices per can at Pet Supermarket are priced too high. I'd shop there regularly (which would be alot!) But I only go there if I'm out of food for my dog & don't have time to go all the way out to Petsmart. But nice store, great inventory of everything!
