If you want to buy animals from here I highly recommend you think twice. These animals are unfortunately kept in poor conditions. Any aquatics person should know a betta needs five gallons minimums. Agway’s bettas are kept in VASES in still water which is dangerous because it can cause bacterial and fungal infections. These bettas are clearly not thriving and not healthy. The enclosure labeled leopard gecko has dried up lettuce in it? Any reptile person should know that leopard geckos don’t eat salads, they are insectivores. It also looked like either algae or mold in the substrate, absolutely unacceptable!!! Gecko also had a red light which is not beneficial at all and didn’t have UVB which prevents MBD. They ALSO had an “enclosure” with 2 different types of chameleons AND a mountain lizard housed together. Chameleons and other lizards should not be housed together, they can be stressed, territorial and/or aggressive. I am just in shock on how these poor animals are kept. They are being neglected and abused. Shame on you agway.

Hermitage Agway Introduce
Are you a pet owner in the Hermitage, Pennsylvania area searching for a comprehensive "Pet Store Near Me"? Look no further than Hermitage Agway, located at 4065 E State St. This local establishment can be reached at (724) 347-3031 or their mobile number, +1 724-347-3031. While primarily known as a pet store offering various supplies, Hermitage Agway seems to have a broader scope, as indicated by customer reviews.
Based on available feedback, the environment and care for animals within Hermitage Agway appear to be a point of concern for some customers. One reviewer expressed significant distress regarding the living conditions of certain animals. This review specifically mentioned bettas being housed in vases with still water, a practice deemed inadequate and potentially harmful for the fish due to the risk of bacterial and fungal infections. The reviewer, identifying as an "aquatics person," emphasized that the minimum recommended tank size for a betta is five gallons, contrasting sharply with the vase enclosures observed.
Furthermore, the same review raised serious concerns about the reptile enclosures. An enclosure labeled for a leopard gecko was found to contain dried lettuce, an inappropriate food source for these insectivorous reptiles. The presence of what appeared to be algae or mold in the substrate was also noted as "absolutely unacceptable." Additionally, the reviewer pointed out the use of a red light, considered non-beneficial for leopard geckos, and the absence of UVB lighting, which is crucial for preventing Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) in these reptiles.
Perhaps the most alarming observation in this critical review was the cohabitation of two different types of chameleons and a mountain lizard in a single enclosure. The reviewer, identifying as a "reptile person," strongly stated that chameleons and other lizards should not be housed together due to potential stress, territorial behavior, and aggression. This customer concluded their review by expressing shock at the conditions and labeling the situation as neglect and abuse.
It is crucial for potential customers to consider this negative feedback regarding animal welfare when deciding whether to purchase live animals from Hermitage Agway. These observations highlight potential shortcomings in the store's animal husbandry practices, and prospective buyers should exercise caution and perhaps seek further information or clarification before making a purchase.
On a more positive note, another customer review offers a contrasting perspective, highlighting different aspects of Hermitage Agway. This reviewer enthusiastically mentioned a "million flags to choose from for damn near any holiday," suggesting a diverse selection of seasonal and decorative items beyond just pet supplies. They also praised the "Bird Seed variety galore," indicating a potentially extensive range of options for bird owners in the area.
Most notably, this positive review emphasized the presence of "amazing rescued animals w/in" the store and commended the "love & care these ppl have for them" which "obviously shows." This suggests that Hermitage Agway may be involved in animal rescue efforts, providing a temporary or permanent home for animals in need. This aspect could be a significant draw for customers who prioritize supporting businesses that care for animals, particularly those rescued from challenging situations.
The contrasting reviews paint a complex picture of Hermitage Agway. While one customer raises serious red flags concerning the living conditions of some animals, another praises their selection of non-animal products and highlights their apparent dedication to rescued animals. This discrepancy underscores the importance of considering multiple perspectives when evaluating a business.
For local users searching for a "Pet Store Near Me" in Hermitage, PA, Hermitage Agway presents a mixed bag. They appear to offer a variety of pet supplies, particularly bird seed, and a substantial selection of flags for various occasions. Their involvement with rescued animals could be a significant positive for some customers. However, the serious allegations regarding the inadequate care of certain animals, including bettas and reptiles, should not be ignored.
Potential customers are advised to visit the store in person to assess the environment and animal welfare for themselves. Asking specific questions about the care protocols for different species and observing the living conditions firsthand would be prudent before making any decisions, especially regarding the purchase of live animals. It might also be beneficial to seek additional reviews or information from other local pet owners to gain a more comprehensive understanding of Hermitage Agway's reputation and practices.
In conclusion, Hermitage Agway at 4065 E State St in Hermitage, PA, offers a range of products, including pet supplies and a wide variety of flags. They also appear to be involved in rescuing animals, which is a commendable aspect for animal lovers. However, serious concerns have been raised by at least one customer regarding the living conditions and care of some of the animals housed in the store. Local users considering Hermitage Agway as their "Pet Store Near Me" should weigh these contrasting perspectives and consider a personal visit to make an informed decision.
