Out of all the fish stores we’ve been explored when we started our first saltwater tank, this is the ONLY fish store we will ever shop at. The tanks and fish are VERY WELL kept where as other stores we visited the fish don’t look well and the tanks are filthy. The staff here is top notch. We love Riley and Eli! *I whole heartedly apologize that I do not remember everyones name but we love you guys too* anytime we visited the store we were attended to and any questions or concerns we had were answered in depth and gave us so much reassurance especially when our tank crashed (100% our fault). We love all the fish we’ve purchased from fish planet. Honestly I can go on and on about how awesome the store, staff and owner are but you just have to go and experience it yourself. 10/10 recommend!!

Welcome to Fish Planet
Welcome to the introduction of Fish Planet, a highly regarded pet store located at 839 N Waukegan Rd, Deerfield, IL 60015, USA. For local users in Deerfield and the surrounding areas seeking a premier "Pet Store Near Me" specializing in aquatic life, Fish Planet stands out as a top destination. You can reach them at (847) 945-4700 or +1 847-945-4700 for any inquiries. Based on overwhelmingly positive customer reviews, Fish Planet offers an exceptional environment for both the livestock and the shoppers, coupled with knowledgeable staff and a remarkable selection of fish and aquatic plants.
The "environment" of Fish Planet is consistently praised for its cleanliness and the excellent condition of its tanks. Unlike other fish stores where customers have observed unhealthy fish and unsanitary conditions, Fish Planet maintains its tanks "VERY WELL kept." This commitment to a clean and healthy environment is crucial for the well-being of the aquatic life they house and provides customers with confidence in the quality of their livestock. The meticulous maintenance of the tanks suggests a high level of care and attention to detail, creating a pleasant and reassuring atmosphere for shoppers.
The "services" offered by Fish Planet primarily revolve around providing a wide variety of healthy aquatic livestock and supplies. Their expertise extends to both saltwater and freshwater aquariums, catering to a broad range of aquatic interests. The knowledgeable staff are readily available to assist customers with any questions or concerns, offering in-depth answers and reassurance, particularly valuable for those new to the hobby or facing challenges with their tanks. This personalized assistance goes beyond mere sales, positioning Fish Planet as a trusted resource for aquarium keeping advice.
A significant aspect of their service is the quality and health of their livestock. Customers consistently highlight that the fish at Fish Planet look "extremely healthy," contrasting sharply with the condition of fish observed at other stores. This focus on the health and well-being of their aquatic inhabitants is a core value that resonates strongly with customers who prioritize the long-term success of their aquariums. Furthermore, Fish Planet offers a diverse selection of aquatic plants, with the notable feature that "almost all the plants are grown in water," mitigating the common issue of plant melt that can occur when transitioning plants grown in other mediums to an aquarium environment.
Fish Planet also boasts an "amazing" variety of livestock. Customers have been impressed by the unique and less commonly seen species they offer, such as a "mini fresh water flounder" and a "freshwater relative to the seahorse." This diverse selection caters to both novice and experienced aquarists looking for interesting and unique additions to their tanks. Similarly, their "plant variety" is extensive, with different sizes and colors available to suit any type of aquascape. For those looking to establish a lush planted aquarium quickly, Fish Planet offers the option to essentially create a "Dutch style aquarium in one stop" due to their wide selection of established plants.
A standout "feature" of Fish Planet, repeatedly emphasized in customer reviews, is their exceptional staff. Individuals like Riley and Eli are specifically mentioned for their top-notch service. The staff is described as "very friendly and helpful" and "very clearly into and passionate about what they do." This passion translates into high-quality information and advice that customers can trust, making Fish Planet a go-to resource for even the most challenging aquarium-related questions. The confidence that customers feel in the information provided by the staff is a significant differentiator, setting Fish Planet apart from stores where the expertise may be less apparent.
Another key feature is the store's commitment to quality over simply offering the lowest prices. Customers acknowledge that the fish and plants at Fish Planet might be "more expensive than a big box store" or even some other local fish shops with questionable livestock conditions. However, they overwhelmingly agree that the superior health and quality of the livestock, coupled with the excellent service and knowledgeable advice, make the slightly higher prices well worth it. As one reviewer astutely pointed out, "There is price and cost, expense and value," and Fish Planet delivers exceptional value by providing healthy, well-cared-for aquatic life that is less likely to lead to costly problems down the line.
Currently, there is no specific "promotional information" available in the provided reviews. However, given the positive feedback and the focus on quality and service, Fish Planet likely relies on its reputation and the quality of its offerings to attract and retain customers. Local pet stores like Fish Planet might occasionally offer sales on specific items, discounts for loyal customers, or promotions related to seasonal events or new arrivals of livestock. To inquire about any current promotions or special offers, local users are encouraged to contact Fish Planet directly at (847) 945-4700 or +1 847-945-4700 or visit their location at 839 N Waukegan Rd, Deerfield, IL 60015.
In conclusion, Fish Planet is not just another "Pet Store Near Me" in Deerfield, IL; it is a premier destination for aquarium enthusiasts seeking healthy livestock, a diverse selection of fish and plants, and unparalleled customer service from a passionate and knowledgeable team. The clean and well-maintained environment, the high quality of the aquatic life, and the expert advice provided by the staff make Fish Planet the go-to store for both beginners and experienced hobbyists. While specific promotions are not mentioned, the value offered through healthy livestock and exceptional service more than justifies a visit. For anyone in the Deerfield area looking to start or maintain a freshwater or saltwater aquarium, Fish Planet comes with the highest recommendations – it's an experience you need to have for yourself to truly appreciate.

Mar 21, 2025 · Vanessa CWow this place is pretty much the perfect local fish shop I’ve been searching all over Chicago for. I’ll just list bullets because it’s easier. 1. Livestock all looks extremely healthy and the the tanks look well managed and clean. 2. Almost all the plants are grown in water so you don’t have to worry about melt 3. Livestock variety is amazing, I didn’t know there was a mini fresh water flounder or a freshwater relative to the seahorse. They had both. 4. Plant variety with different sizes and colors for any type of aquascape. If you wanted to skip the growing part you could basically have a lush Dutch style aquarium in one stop there. 5. The staff is really the highlight. Very friendly and helpful, very clearly into and passionate about what they do. It’s so amazing to ask questions and feel confident you’re getting high quality information back that you don’t need to second guess. One of the few places I’ve ever been to that I’m sure they could help answer the questions no one else seems to know. So I stopped in to see what it was all about, left with half a dozen plants and some clarification on my water treatment process since moving to well from the city. Can’t wait to go back next week and pick out some fish. Also just need to add in about people commenting on pricing. Are the fish and plants more expensive than a big box store? Yes. What about the other local fish shop that has the tank so overfilled and dirty that it’s tough to pick out “the healthy one”. Probably yes as well. I’ve bought fish from enough places just to save a dollar or two and ended up costing me far more due to the health of the fish and its effect on the other tank mates that it is well worth it. There is price and cost, expense and value. First I’d prefer to shop local over the big box stores. Second, the prices are better than premium online distributors when you factor in the 80 dollars they want for next day air, plus the added stress on the fish. So would I rather pay 5 dollars for a well cared for healthy fish I can trust, or 3 dollars for the one that I say “boy I hope this one doesn’t die”. I’d rather pay for better quality and service, it’s sorely missing in a lot of places these days.
Nov 25, 2024 · Brent BakerThat had some gorgeous setups! Very clean tanks and some different fish you don't see everywhere. They has flower shrimp that were very cool!. I would go again if I get back to that area.
Feb 28, 2025 · Dione HeppnerMany tanks here were dirty and some of the fish looked unhealthy. The owner tried selling me a saltwater fish that looked half dead. He assured it was fine but I disagreed with him and refused to buy it. He got real upset about this and then told me, "If I am not going to buy something I should leave". The prices here are also outrageous. There are better aquarium options in the area.
