I have gotten 4 budgies, one rabbit, and I purchased a betta fish on November 30, 2024. First and foremost, the bettas were kept in small containers and were very cheap (mine was only $6.00) I brought him home, cycled his tank, installed his heater, added water conditioner, etc. etc. He is in a 5.5 gallon tank complete with everything he needs. I very quickly realized, however, he has fin rot which the store failed to tell me. He looks pretty bad, and I'm not sure he can be treated. I was very disappointed because I've purchased animals here before without a problem. The staff are so incredibly nice here but when I see an animal suffering, that's when I get upset. That's not to mention. the extremely over-crowded tanks/cages. Please do bette. Edit: This is how my baby looks. You guys should be very ashamed of yourselves to let an animal get this bad. Never coming here again

Family Pet Connection Introduce

Welcome to an in-depth introduction of Family Pet Connection, a pet store located at 338 Madison Ave # 22, Skowhegan, ME 04976, USA. Operating under the platform category "Pet Store Near Me," this introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the store based on publicly available customer reviews. It is important to note that the following information is derived solely from the provided customer feedback and may not represent the entirety of the store's operations or all customer experiences. This overview is presented for local users in Singapore who may be researching pet stores in the Skowhegan, Maine area, perhaps due to travel or relocation plans involving pets, and who seek an understanding of potential concerns raised by previous customers.

Based on the customer reviews, Family Pet Connection appears to sell a variety of small animals, including budgies, rabbits, and betta fish. They also seem to have sold dogs, specifically Pomeranians, in the past. The environment of the store, as described by one reviewer, includes "extremely over-crowded tanks/cages," which raises concerns about the living conditions and welfare of the animals housed there. Another observation was that betta fish were kept in "small containers" and sold at a very low price ($6.00), which can sometimes be indicative of less than ideal conditions for these fish.

Several significant concerns regarding the health and well-being of animals purchased from Family Pet Connection are highlighted in the reviews. One customer who bought a betta fish reported that the fish had fin rot, a bacterial infection of the fins, which the store allegedly failed to disclose at the time of purchase. The severity of the fin rot was significant enough that the customer was unsure if the fish could be treated, expressing disappointment, especially given previous positive experiences with the store. This suggests a potential issue with the health monitoring or disclosure practices for the animals sold.

More गंभीर concerns are raised in reviews regarding the sale of dogs, specifically Pomeranians. One customer who purchased a Pomeranian in 2021 detailed a series of severe health issues that developed in the dog by the age of three, including hind leg paralysis, hernia problems, dental issues, and possible ascending paralysis. Veterinary confirmation indicated that these issues were likely the result of inbreeding. The customer reported spending thousands of dollars on medical care and the inability to obtain pet insurance due to the pre-existing conditions. They strongly cautioned potential buyers against purchasing dogs from pet shops in general, and specifically from Family Pet Connection, labeling the breeding practices as "unsafe and inhumane."

Further corroboration of potential inbreeding issues comes from another individual who believes they bought a male Pomeranian from the same litter in January 2021. This reviewer expressed a desire to contact other buyers from the same period to inform them of potential genetic health problems. The fact that two puppies from the same litter, sold by the same store, developed severe health issues linked to inbreeding is a significant cause for concern.

One reviewer mentioned attempting to contact the store via email regarding their dog's health crises over three years but received no response after the third instance. This lack of communication and follow-up after the sale of an animal with serious health problems is also a point of concern for customer service and accountability.

While one reviewer did mention that "the staff are so incredibly nice here," this positive feedback is juxtaposed with the serious concerns raised about animal welfare and health. The kindness of the staff does not negate the potential issues with the conditions in which the animals are kept or the health of the animals being sold.

No information regarding specific services beyond the sale of animals and presumably related supplies is available in the provided reviews. It is typical for pet stores to sell food, toys, bedding, and other accessories for the animals they offer. However, the focus of the reviews is predominantly on the animals themselves and their health and living conditions.

Similarly, no promotional information for Family Pet Connection is mentioned in the provided reviews. It is common for pet stores to have sales or special offers, but the urgency and severity of the health and welfare concerns raised by customers overshadow any potential promotional aspects.

In conclusion, based on the provided customer reviews, potential local users in Singapore researching pet stores in Skowhegan, Maine, should be aware of significant concerns raised regarding Family Pet Connection. These concerns include allegations of overcrowded conditions for animals, the sale of a betta fish with an undisclosed health issue (fin rot), and, most गंभीरly, the sale of at least one Pomeranian with severe, likely genetically linked health problems attributed to inbreeding. There is also a report of a lack of response from the store regarding ongoing health issues in a purchased dog. While one reviewer noted the friendliness of the staff, the overarching theme of the feedback points to potential issues with animal welfare and ethical breeding practices. Potential customers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and consider these reviews carefully before purchasing any animals from this store. Further independent research and potentially seeking opinions from local animal welfare organizations or veterinarians in the Skowhegan area may be prudent.

I bought a Pomeranian in 2021. She has been disabled since 2022, she has no use of her back legs. She has also had hernia problems and dental issues and possible ascending paralysis. And she’s only three so who knows what problems we might in counter in the future if we are lucky enough to have her for years to come. It has been confirmed she is inbred. We have spent thousands of dollars on medical care for her because most of her issues are related to inbreeding. We are lucky to be in a position to give her nearly 24 hour care and pay for her medical bills (she is unable to qualify for pet insurance because of her issues) always be wary when buying from pet shops. Buying from a shop doesn’t mean “safe and researched”. Our dog now lives with life long medical disabilities and has to be screened for complications that may lead to her having to be put down far before her time. I am so disappointed. I spent a significant amount of money at this shop to receive an inbred dog. We love her very much but I expected to get a safely bred dog. If you happen to have bought the male Pom in January 2021, we wish there was an easier way to contact you but you must get your pup checked for these issues as it is most likely genetic and from inbreeding. Our pup came from a litter of 2, so if your Pom came on these dates they are from the same litter. It has taken me so long to write this review because I tried emailing and never heard back after the 3rd health crisis in 3 three years. I was so wrapped up in our dogs heath that I never realized until recently how many other people might experience this and be stuck with huge vet bills. We will do anything for our dog and hope to warn others to NOT BUY ANY DOGS from this shop. It is unsafe and breeding dogs like this is inhumane.

Great experience today at the Family Pet Connection. We have been looking for a little boy Pomeraian for a few years and finally found the right one. Thank you so much to Sylvia and the crew for helping us with everything. We welcome little "Nico". Great friendly service. Check them out. We couldn't be happier.
