What a heartbreaking experience it was going into this store today. It is so cluttered and dirty and disgusting you can hardly walk. There were fish in home depot buckets on the ground practically folded in half because they're too big on the ground. There were tanks so dirty that you couldn't even see the fish inside! Turtles without heat lamps and no where to escape the water. Covered in their own poop. I really could go on. We left broken hearted for all the fish and aquatic creatures in there. I wish I could take them all home.

Beltway Aquarium Introduce
Welcome to Beltway Aquarium, a pet store located at 3306 Crain Hwy, Waldorf, MD 20603, USA. For local users searching for a 'Pet Store Near Me' specializing in aquarium fish, Beltway Aquarium reportedly offers a selection of both common and, at times, hard-to-find species. However, it is crucial for potential customers to be aware that recent reviews paint a concerning picture regarding the store's environment, the condition of the aquatic life, and the owner's customer service approach.
One particularly distressing review describes a "heartbreaking experience" upon visiting the store. The customer found the premises to be excessively cluttered, dirty, and "disgusting," making it difficult to navigate. Disturbingly, the review details instances of fish being kept in Home Depot buckets on the ground, seemingly too large for these temporary containers, leading to them being "practically folded in half." Furthermore, the customer reported numerous tanks so dirty that the fish inside were barely visible. The review also raises serious animal welfare concerns regarding turtles housed without necessary heat lamps and lacking any means of escaping the water, allegedly covered in their own waste. The reviewer expressed profound sadness for the animals and a desire to rescue them, indicating severely inadequate living conditions observed within the store.
Another review corroborates a negative perception of the owner, describing them as "non-sociable to say the least." While acknowledging that the store sometimes carries "so so, sometimes sick" fish and occasionally offers "hard to find species," the reviewer states that the owner's attitude makes visiting the store an "absolute emergency stop." This suggests that while some unique fish might be available, the overall experience is significantly marred by the owner's lack of customer engagement. In contrast, this reviewer praises the manager, Robin, describing her as "great" and implying that a positive interaction with her would make the visit more acceptable. The owner, identified as Richard, is portrayed as unwelcoming to customers, seemingly interested only in their financial transactions.
Based on these two recent customer reviews, several critical aspects of Beltway Aquarium need to be considered by potential visitors. The environment is described as cluttered and, more alarmingly, dirty and unsanitary. This raises significant concerns about the overall hygiene of the store and the potential health risks for both the animals and customers.
The welfare of the aquatic life within the store appears to be severely compromised, according to one detailed account. The reported conditions, including overcrowding in inadequate containers, severely dirty tanks, and lack of basic provisions like heat lamps and clean resting areas for reptiles, suggest a significant neglect of the animals' needs. These are serious allegations that should prompt potential customers to exercise extreme caution.
In terms of services and features, the store apparently offers a variety of aquarium fish, including some species that may be difficult to find elsewhere. However, the quality of the fish is described as "so so, sometimes sick," which is a major concern for anyone looking to purchase healthy aquatic pets. The presence of a knowledgeable manager, Robin, is a potential positive aspect, as one reviewer indicates a more favorable experience when interacting with her. However, the negative portrayal of the owner's demeanor and customer service is a significant drawback.
The reviews do not provide any information regarding promotional offers, pricing, or specific services beyond the sale of fish and possibly other aquatic creatures like turtles. Given the strong negative feedback concerning the store's conditions and the owner's attitude, any potential promotional benefits would likely be overshadowed by these significant issues.
In conclusion, while Beltway Aquarium in Waldorf, MD, may offer a selection of aquarium fish, including some less common species, the recent customer reviews paint a concerning picture. The store is described as cluttered, dirty, and potentially harmful to the welfare of the animals housed there. The owner's reported lack of sociability and focus solely on transactions further detracts from the overall customer experience. While the manager, Robin, receives positive feedback, the overwhelming concerns about the environment and animal conditions should give any potential customer serious pause. Local users searching for a 'Pet Store Near Me' specializing in aquarium life are strongly advised to consider these recent experiences and potentially seek alternative establishments that prioritize cleanliness, animal welfare, and positive customer interactions. Visiting this store may result in a distressing experience due to the conditions observed and the owner's reported demeanor.

Oct 14, 2024 · Jessica McCormickOwner is non-sociable to say the least, the fish are so so, sometimes sick,, some hard to find species are found here, but the owner attitude makes this trip an absolute emergency stop for me, I like the hobby so I catch myself going in just to be a fan of the aquarium fish but other than that if Robin the manager was the only person I see I'd be ok with that, she's great, unlike her boss (Richard) who doesn't welcome anyone except their dollars
Jan 16, 2025 · CICHLID STRAIN HUNTERI've bought several fish recently and none have died even the baby polar blue parrots are now big guys. But I just purchased 2 angelfish Thursday and Saturday night one died. I called and just asked about their return policy for dead fish and they dont have one. So somewhat disappointed but I had no reason to think this fish would die since the others didn't. Not extremely expensive but 19 dollars is 19 dollars. Ya know??
Sep 08, 2024 · Debbie DandyI just don’t understand how this place stays open. An aquarium store that doesn’t sell live plants, fertilizer, modern lights, nano fish, etc.
Feb 24, 2025 · D MWhile they did have a lot of cichlids. They don't take care of their tanks and fish at all. There were dead and sick fish, green water, algae covered glass everywhere and the fish weren't labeled well. Every dry product is behind the counter like a liquor store. I was the only person in the store for 20 minutes. I don't know what the other reviews are talking about; they don't sell parrots or anything other than fish.
