The people were phenomenal, very helpful. What a beautiful store and the animals are lovely. I wish I could take them all home. My only downfall is that they do not have live blackworms for my Beta and frogs but that's okay. They've gotten used to the frozen. :)

Aquarium Adventure Introduce
For individuals in the Bolingbrook, Illinois area searching for a "Pet Store Near Me," Aquarium Adventure, situated at 744 E Boughton Rd, Bolingbrook, IL 60440, USA, presents itself as a local option for pet-related needs. To provide a comprehensive overview for potential customers, it's essential to consider various aspects of the store, including its environment, services, and features, as perceived by individuals who have visited the establishment.
One customer described Aquarium Adventure as a "beautiful store" with "lovely animals," and commended the staff as "phenomenal" and "very helpful." This initial positive feedback suggests that the store aims to create an aesthetically pleasing environment for both customers and the animals they house. The helpfulness of the staff can be a significant factor for pet owners seeking guidance and assistance in choosing the right pets and supplies.
However, it's crucial to consider contrasting experiences shared by other customers. One visitor, who traveled a considerable distance based on a friend's recommendation, expressed significant disappointment after their visit. This highlights the importance of considering a range of opinions to form a balanced understanding of what Aquarium Adventure offers.
Regarding the animals themselves, the initial positive review mentioned their loveliness, creating a favorable impression. However, a subsequent, more critical review raised serious concerns about the health and living conditions of certain animals. Specifically, this customer expressed devastation regarding the Betta fish, stating that a local Pet Co offered a better selection and healthier quality. This suggests potential inconsistencies in the care and quality of the Betta fish at Aquarium Adventure.
The same critical review also raised alarming observations about the axolotls housed at the store. The customer described them as "actively dying," noting the absence of gills, extreme skinniness, and their being kept on gravel, which can reportedly cause impaction. The reviewer further mentioned a lump on one axolotl and a tail deformity on another. When these concerns were brought to the attention of a staff member, the response indicated an awareness of the harmful conditions (gravel substrate) without any apparent corrective action. This raises significant questions about the standards of care for these particular amphibians within the store.
Furthermore, the review highlighted concerns about the housing of hermit crabs in an open-top enclosure, allowing public handling. This practice is reportedly detrimental to hermit crabs, as they are sensitive creatures that should not be handled. These observations paint a concerning picture regarding the welfare of certain species within Aquarium Adventure.
The discrepancy between the positive initial review and the subsequent negative one is notable. The friend who initially recommended the store to the disappointed customer mentioned that it was a great place four years prior, suggesting a potential decline in standards over time. The disappointed customer speculated about a possible management change as a contributing factor to the observed issues.
In terms of services, the positive review emphasized the helpfulness of the staff. However, the negative review, while focused on animal welfare, also implicitly touches upon the staff's response to concerns raised. The acknowledgment of the harmful substrate for axolotls without any indication of rectification suggests a potential disconnect between awareness of proper care and its implementation.
Regarding features, Aquarium Adventure is described as a "beautiful store," suggesting attention to the aesthetic presentation of the retail space. The availability of a variety of animals is also evident from the reviews, encompassing fish (including Bettas), axolotls, and hermit crabs. The initial reviewer's disappointment at the lack of live blackworms for their Beta and frogs indicates that the store may not stock every specific item a customer might need, but they were accommodating to the use of frozen alternatives. This suggests a willingness to work with customers' needs to some extent.
Promotional information is not provided in the given text. Local users would need to contact the store directly at (630) 739-1128 or mobile phone at +1 630-739-1128, or visit their location at 744 E Boughton Rd, Bolingbrook, IL 60440, USA, to inquire about any current promotions, discounts, or special events.
In conclusion, for local users in Bolingbrook, IL, considering Aquarium Adventure as a "Pet Store Near Me," the available information presents a mixed picture. While one customer praised the store's beauty and the helpfulness of the staff, others have raised serious concerns about the welfare and living conditions of certain animals, particularly the Betta fish and axolotls. The discrepancy in experiences over time, as suggested by one reviewer, indicates that current conditions may differ significantly from past perceptions. Potential customers are advised to visit the store in person, carefully observe the animals and their habitats, and directly inquire about the store's animal care practices before making any purchases. It is crucial for a pet store to prioritize the health and well-being of the animals in their care, and the recent negative feedback warrants careful consideration by prospective customers.

Apr 11, 2025 · DigitaldivaI went here due to great reviews from a friend. Traveled 40 minutes to get here. Unfortunately, I was DEVASTATED after visiting! I went here to look at their Betta fish, and was very disappointed. My local Pet Co has a better selection and better, healthier quality of their Betta fish than this place! I should’ve taken pictures of the Bettas. I should’ve seen if they would’ve surrendered one to me. It was so sad. I was also devastated seeing their axolotl‘s. They’re actively dying. No Gills, extremely skinny, and on gravel. One has a lump on it, and another has a deformity at the end of its tail. When I told a worker that was working with the fish “I see you have your axolotls on gravel, that can cause impaction” he replied “yeah I know. It’s happened before.” How do you know you’re actively causing harm and still continuing to do it? How freaking sad. They also have their hermit crabs in an open top enclosure so people can touch them. You’re not supposed to handle hermit crabs. If I would’ve stuck around longer, I probably could’ve found more inadequate animal care. I was very disappointed & sad when I left. My friend who recommended the store apologized saying it was great when she was there four years ago. Management change? Probably. But DO BETTER!! Animals don’t deserve this.
Aug 17, 2024 · Diamond PhippsIt's a nice pet shop but it seems like the employees don't want to be there. The gentleman in the fish area seemed more interested in having a conversation with his coworker then helping out the customers. He seemed very put out when we asked him to get us some fish and then pushed me out of the way to get to the tank. The person at the register was very nice and checked us out quickly. The people in the small animal area were very friendly and allowed the kids to pick up the small animals. Overall a nice store but that guy in the back definitely didn't seem like he wanted to be there. If he's working I wouldn't recommend asking for fish.
Mar 31, 2025 · Andrew Cool (Chudley645)They had some nice fish but were quite pricey. Not the large selection of fresh water that I was expecting. Nobody asked me if I needed help. But I admit that they were somewhat busy. I ended up buying $40 worth of rocks and left.
Apr 06, 2025 · Ken GrayOverall a okay experience, has a lot of supplies and a good collection of fish. Many employees do somewhat "interrogate" you whenever you show interest in buying a fish. Although they want to make sure the fish goes into good hands, they will talk over you. It often makes me stressed and doubt myself.
