Welcome to Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital - Dr. Paul Brandt

Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital, prominently located at 4534 West Gate Blvd #100, Austin, TX 78745, USA, is a distinguished "Pet Hospital" that stands out for its comprehensive and compassionate veterinary services. Under the leadership of Dr. Paul Brandt, who serves as the owner and medical director, this clinic provides exceptional care for a broad spectrum of animals, including traditional pets like dogs and cats, as well as an impressive array of exotic species and birds. You can contact them at (512) 892-4463 or +1 512-892-4463. Established in 1986 by Dr. Harry A. Miller III, a nationally recognized exotic animal veterinarian, the hospital has maintained a legacy of specialized and inclusive animal care.

Dr. Paul Brandt himself is a highly respected veterinarian with deep roots at Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital. He joined the team in 1991, shortly after graduating from Texas A&M University with both his undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology and his veterinary degree. His experience prior to becoming a DVM included working in several veterinary clinics and completing an internship in veterinary research at the Houston Zoo. Dr. Brandt's personal journey into veterinary medicine was inspired by a misdiagnosis that nearly cost his first pet, "Rusty," their life, leading him to appreciate the critical importance of accurate diagnosis and compassionate care. He later became a managing partner and is now the owner and medical director, continuing the hospital's family tradition and commitment to excellence.

Environment and Atmosphere

Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital cultivates an environment that is consistently described by clients as welcoming, comfortable, and caring. The facility is designed to accommodate a diverse patient population, which is evident in its capacity to treat various species, from common household pets to more unusual avian and exotic companions. The welcoming atmosphere is fostered by a team that makes clients feel comfortable, reflecting a genuine passion for animals. This feeling of ease is crucial, especially for pets who might be anxious about vet visits, and the staff's patience, as noted by a client whose cat "Mo" was well cared for, contributes significantly to this calm environment. The hospital strives to make every pet feel "like their own," which translates into a supportive and empathetic setting for owners during what can often be stressful times. The hospital is family-owned and locally operated since 1986, emphasizing personal attention over centralized management, contributing to a more intimate and reassuring atmosphere.
