I enjoy going here with my dogs. The vets inform us of what is occurring in our dog’s bodies so we can understand the situation. They are respectful about financial situations and offer different options for treatment to accommodate. We have seen Dr. Moore and Dr. Ellis. Phenomenal. All the staff have been lovely and treat our dogs with love and respect.

Services Offered

WesternU Pet Health Center, as a full-service veterinary hospital and teaching facility, offers a wide range of services, combining cutting-edge veterinary medicine with an educational mission. Their services are designed to provide comprehensive care throughout a pet's life:

  • Preventive Care and Wellness: This includes routine examinations, vaccinations, deworming, and parasite control (heartworm, fleas, and ticks). They emphasize comprehensive, nose-to-tail examinations and customized recommendations based on a pet's unique needs and lifestyle.
  • Routine Surgeries: The center performs common surgical procedures such as spay and neuter. While specific complex surgeries are not detailed, their nature as a teaching hospital suggests capabilities for a variety of surgical needs.
  • Dental Cleanings: Comprehensive dental care, including professional cleanings and preventative dental care, is offered to maintain optimal oral health.
  • Diagnostic Services: Equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, they conduct necessary tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and potentially advanced imaging, aligning with their commitment to precise diagnoses.
  • Geriatric Care: They provide tailored care for senior pets, often recommending biannual visits, monitoring thyroid function, blood pressure, heart and lung sounds, and checking for joint disease and pain, along with nutrition recommendations.
  • Client Education: A key aspect of their teaching hospital model is extensive client education. Veterinarians inform owners about their pet's condition, treatment options, and home care, ensuring they understand the situation and can make informed decisions.
  • Financial Accommodation: They are particularly sensitive to financial situations and offer various treatment options to accommodate different budgets, ensuring that pets receive necessary care without undue financial burden on owners.
  • Willed Animals for Veterinary Education (WAVE) Program: This unique program allows pet owners to honor their departed pets by donating their bodies for veterinary education. This contributes to the advancement of veterinary medicine and ensures that the love and care shared with pets continue to make a profound impact.
  • Veterinary Ambulatory Community Service (VACS) Program: This initiative takes faculty and students into underserved communities and animal shelters to provide valuable pet healthcare, offering real-life clinical experience for students and essential services to the community.
Features and Approach

WesternU Pet Health Center stands out due to several distinctive features and a unique approach to veterinary medicine and education:

This means that care is provided by experienced faculty veterinarians, often in collaboration with veterinary students. This environment fosters a commitment to evidence-based medicine, continuous learning, and thoroughness in diagnosis and treatment. Students gain hands-on experience under direct faculty supervision, enhancing the quality of care and providing a multi-layered approach to patient management.
  • Compassionate and Respectful Care: The overwhelming feedback highlights the staff's dedication to treating animals with "love and respect." This deep compassion extends to respecting pet owners' financial situations, offering flexible treatment plans.
  • Focus on Client Understanding: Veterinarians make a concerted effort to "inform us of what is occurring in our dog’s bodies so we can understand the situation," which is invaluable for pet owners. This transparent communication builds trust and empowers clients.
  • Highly Qualified Veterinarians: The presence of "phenomenal" veterinarians like Dr. Moore and Dr. Ellis, who are likely faculty members, assures clients of high-level medical expertise. The team comprises experienced veterinarians, skilled RVTs, and compassionate support staff.
  • Community Engagement: Through programs like VACS, the center actively engages with the local community by providing accessible pet healthcare to underserved populations. This reinforces their commitment to public health and animal welfare beyond the clinic walls.
  • Commitment to Animal Welfare in Education: The "reverence for life" philosophy at WesternU's CVM ensures that no animals are euthanized for educational purposes, and anatomical specimens are only from donated deceased animals (WAVE program). My pets are well cared for at this office. Being a teaching vet, they have in-house radiology, avoiding extra charges.

Unfortunately, it was a bad experience. Although it is a university but they want to abuse more than the private veterinary clinic. They exaggerate things to get more money, No Mercy, and they don't care about our pets. moreover, unexplained long waiting time. Keep your pet away 😔

I will be recommending this vet to everyone I know. After seeing several vets in LA about my dog’s leg condition I finally was able to talk to a vet at length! Dr Kim gave me all the information I needed and even brought out diagrams, showing me exactly what the problem was. Other vets try and over-prescribe and say “you must get surgery”.. but now I know that’s not the only option for us. I’m just so grateful for their kindness, patience and knowledge! Even though I am in LA I’m pretty sure this will be my new vet :) Thanks Dr. Kim!
