Services Offered

West Roxbury Animal Hospital, as a full-service animal hospital, offers a wide variety of veterinary medical services for dogs and cats. Based on the provided reviews and general information about pet hospitals, their services likely include:

  • **Preventive & Wellness Care:** This is a core focus, including annual check-ups, comprehensive physical exams, and a full range of vaccinations (such as rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and potentially Lyme disease, as commonly offered in the region). This proactive approach aims to maintain long-term pet health and prevent serious illnesses.
  • **Diagnostic Services:** To accurately identify health issues, they would offer in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams) and digital radiography (X-rays).
  • **Medical Treatments:** Management of various acute and chronic illnesses, including prescribing medications. The mention of prescribing "antibiotics" for a cat indicates their capability to treat infections.
  • **Veterinary Surgery:** This typically includes routine procedures like spaying and neutering, as well as soft tissue surgeries.
  • **Pet Dental Care:** Professional dental cleanings and other oral health procedures are crucial for preventing and treating periodontal disease in pets.
  • **Microchipping:** This vital service helps ensure lost pets can be reunited with their owners by providing permanent identification.
  • **Same-Day Appointments:** A standout feature highlighted by a customer review is the ability to secure "a same-day appointment." This is incredibly valuable for pet owners when unexpected illnesses or injuries arise, allowing for prompt attention without the need for an emergency room visit.

The fact that clients bring their cats for "annual check-ups for a few years now" underscores their commitment to consistent, long-term preventative care, which is essential for maintaining a pet's health throughout its life.

Key Features and Strengths

One of the most praised aspects of West Roxbury Animal Hospital is its **staff, especially Dr. Kaplan**. Clients consistently highlight their kindness, personable nature, and caring approach. This combination of medical thoroughness and a compassionate, gentle approach towards animals is a significant strength. Making pets comfortable during what can be a stressful experience is highly valued by owners and speaks volumes about the empathy of the veterinary team.

The ability to secure a **same-day appointment** is a major convenience feature, particularly for sudden onset illnesses. This flexibility provides peace of mind for pet owners who need prompt attention for their pets without having to wait days for a routine slot or resort to more expensive emergency services for non-critical issues.

Another strong feature highlighted by a customer is the **affordability of services**. The review states that antibiotics were prescribed "at an affordable price." This indicates that West Roxbury Animal Hospital strives to provide quality care that is also financially accessible, which is a crucial factor for many pet owners when choosing a veterinary provider. This commitment to reasonable pricing, combined with high-quality care and compassionate service, makes them a compelling option.

The long-standing relationships with clients, as evidenced by pet owners bringing their animals there for "a few years now," demonstrates a strong level of trust and satisfaction with the continuous care provided. This speaks to the consistent quality of service and the bond formed between the veterinary team and the pet-owning community.

My dog was having a medical issue on the way to her appointment and when my dad asked if they could help they said they weren’t prepared for her condition. I understand that this isn’t an emergency hospital, but you would think they would have the resources to help your pet. When my dad asked if he could take some oxygen they said no because they were more worried about if he would pay it instead of the fact that my dog was dying right in front of them and they suggested to just euthanize her. My dog ended up dying on the way to the MSPCA, which is the place they told my dad to go. They also never told us about pet dermatologists for years which caused my dog to have to deal with painful infections for a good chunk of her life. We later found out that she had a protein allergy and all of those infections could’ve been prevented if they told us about the correct vet to go to in the beginning. Don’t go here.

West Roxbury Animal Hospital has been our dog's vet since she was 6 weeks old. She's 13 now. They wouldn't give her a rabies booster without coming in for an expensive visit, even though her health is very good. They also refused to provide an approval for the dog food she needs to avoid getting bladder stones. The previous owners of this office were very nice and the new owners are bottom shelf. Out for all the money they can get and really don't care about animals
