PLEASE READ. I recently took my golden retriever in to this practice for his "courtesy birthday bath." I usually take him to the Bearden Hill location but they told me he needed to go to West Bearden for his bath since they have the proper bathing equipment. When I dropped him off, I mentioned to the individual at the front desk that he has bad ears but not to do anything about them. I returned a few hours later and upon picking him up, the same receptionist tried to give me a bill for an ear cleaning. I explained that I did not ask for an ear cleaning or ear exam and I will not be paying for this service. He said, "ok, I will remove the bill." WELL... two weeks later, I get a bill in the mail for $138.00 for an exam, an ear cleaning, ear meds (which I did not take at the time), and A VACCINE THAT I DID NOT ASK FOR OR WANT!?!? Without my knowledge or consent, the veterinarian and staff at West Bearden gave my dog a vaccine that he did not need and that I did not ask for or want. I had no idea they even gave the vaccine until receiving this bill in the mail. When I called to discuss this matter, the practice manager apologized but also made excuses and dismissed me as if it was not that big of a deal. This is a HUGE deal! After speaking with the staff at this location, I contacted my usual location, Bearden Hill, and shared what happened. This receptionist also appeared to make light of the situation and shared that the receptionist at the West Bearden location is "on his way out" and is a poor employee who has been making a lot of mistakes but they don't want to fire him. If they do not fire this man after this incident, they deserve to lose business. I do not plan on taking my dog back to Bearden Hill and I will NEVER again take my dog to West Bearden. I understand people make mistakes, but this is not just a simple error that should be shrugged off. MY DOG WAS GIVEN A VACCINE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE THAT HE DID NOT NEED. Absolutely unacceptable. Beware of the incompetence at West Bearden Hill Veterinary Hospital.

What truly defines the environment is the staff's demeanor. Reviews frequently highlight the friendly, polite, and empathetic nature of the entire team, from the front desk personnel to the veterinarians. This creates a comforting atmosphere that helps reduce stress for both pets and their owners during visits. Pet owners often comment on the staff's gentle handling of animals, even those with anxiety or difficult temperaments, which speaks volumes about the clinic's dedication to patient comfort. The convenient operating hours, typically Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, also contribute to the positive client experience, making it easier for busy pet owners to schedule appointments.

West Bearden Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive array of veterinary services designed to address the full spectrum of pet health needs throughout their lives. Their services are typical of a full-service companion animal hospital and include:

  • Wellness & Preventive Care: This is a core focus, including regular physical examinations (annual or as needed), tailored vaccination programs (such as rabies, Bordetella, DA2LPP for dogs, and rabies, FDRCP, FeLV for cats), and comprehensive parasite testing and prevention (including heartworm and intestinal parasites). They offer specialized care for puppies and kittens, establishing a healthy foundation for their lives, and dedicated senior pet care to manage age-related conditions like arthritis, dental disease, and organ issues (heart, liver, kidneys, endocrine disorders).

  • Medical Services: The hospital provides diagnostic and treatment services for a wide range of illnesses and conditions. This includes thorough examinations, appropriate diagnostic testing, and the development of individualized treatment plans for acute and chronic ailments.

  • Surgical Services: West Bearden Veterinary Hospital is equipped to perform various surgical procedures. This includes routine soft tissue surgeries such as spaying and neutering, which are vital for pet population control and long-term health. More advanced procedures like tumor removal, abdominal surgeries, orthopedic surgery, endoscopy, and laparoscopic surgery are also within their scope, demonstrating a robust surgical capability. Pre-operative lab work, IV catheterization, general anesthesia, and careful monitoring are standard protocols to ensure patient safety.

  • Dental Care: Recognizing the critical impact of oral health on overall well-being, the clinic offers comprehensive dental services. These typically involve pre-operative lab work, general anesthesia, dental X-rays, professional teeth cleaning and polishing, dental charting, and extractions when necessary. They educate pet owners on the signs of dental disease and the importance of regular dental care.

  • Diagnostic Imaging: To aid in accurate diagnosis, the hospital utilizes advanced imaging technologies, specifically X-rays, allowing veterinarians to visualize internal structures and identify issues that may not be apparent during a physical exam.

  • In-House Laboratory: The availability of an in-house laboratory allows for rapid and efficient diagnostic testing, such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams, providing quick results crucial for timely diagnosis and treatment.

  • Pharmacy: For convenience and immediate access to necessary medications, an on-site pharmacy dispenses prescribed drugs, including flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives.

The features that distinguish West Bearden Veterinary Hospital and contribute significantly to its excellent reputation among pet owners include:

  • Highly Experienced and Personable Veterinarians: The clinic boasts a team of veterinarians, including Dr. Kevin Brott, Dr. Jane Fred, Dr. Mark Jones, Dr. David Pittenger, and Dr. George Shiflett, who are consistently praised for their depth of medical knowledge and ability to explain complex medical information clearly and understandably to pet owners. They take the time to answer questions and discuss all available options.

  • Exceptional Compassion and Empathy: A recurring theme in client testimonials is the genuine compassion and empathy shown by the entire staff, particularly during difficult times such as end-of-life decisions for pets. This compassionate care helps alleviate the emotional burden on pet owners.

  • Thorough and Detailed Care: Clients appreciate the thoroughness of the examinations and the detailed take-home instructions provided. The follow-up calls a few days after a procedure demonstrate a commitment to continuous patient care and recovery.

  • Reasonable and Fair Pricing: Many clients find the pricing for services to be fair and reasonable, especially considering the high quality of care received. This accessibility of cost allows more pet owners to provide necessary care for their animals.

  • Stress-Reducing Approach: The staff's gentle handling, patience with anxious pets, and willingness to accommodate situations like bringing pets in from the car for exams are noted as features that make the veterinary visit a less stressful experience for both pets and their owners.

  • Convenient Dual Locations: Operating two clinics (West Bearden and Bearden Hill) provides greater accessibility and flexibility for pet owners in different parts of Knoxville.

Regarding promotional information, West Bearden Veterinary Hospital emphasizes several strategies to help pet owners afford and plan for their pets' care. While specific, limited-time discount promotions might not be prominently displayed on their main service pages, the clinic focuses on offering solutions for managing veterinary costs:

  • Pet Insurance Acceptance: Like most veterinary hospitals, West Bearden Veterinary Hospital accepts pet insurance. They encourage pet owners to obtain insurance while their pets are healthy to cover unexpected accidents and illnesses, as pre-existing conditions are typically not covered. This is promoted as a key way to save on unexpected medical costs, with potential reimbursement of up to 90%.

  • Wellness Plans: They highlight that some pet insurance providers offer "wellness plans" or routine care add-ons. These plans help pet owners afford the cost of routine health expenses, providing peace of mind and promoting consistent preventative care.

  • Treatment Financing Solutions: For expenses related to existing medical conditions or large unexpected upfront costs, West Bearden Veterinary Hospital accepts financing solutions such as CareCredit and Scratchpay. These options allow pet owners to space out payments over time, making comprehensive care more financially manageable. CareCredit is a particularly noted payment option.

  • Educational Resources: While not a direct discount, the clinic's comprehensive website detailing their services, along with potentially providing information on puppy and kitten care, senior pet care, and dental health, serves as a form of promotion by informing and educating pet owners about the value and necessity of their services. Their testimonials page also acts as powerful social proof, promoting their quality of care through client experiences.

In conclusion, West Bearden Veterinary Hospital, supported by its Bearden Hill counterpart, stands as a highly reputable and client-focused "Pet Hospital" in Knoxville, TN. Its comprehensive range of services, delivered by experienced and compassionate veterinarians, coupled with an accommodating environment and practical financial solutions like pet insurance and CareCredit, makes it a reliable and trusted partner for pet owners seeking excellent and affordable care for their beloved companions.

I can not say enough good things about this veterinarian!!! Dr. Hand, her assistants, and entire staff were all so nice and knowledgeable for my Ally Gator. She came in with an ear infection and was in good hands the entire time she was here. If I was local I would exclusively bring her here but unfortunately I am not. I highly recommend bringing your sweet babies here for anything you need! :)

I love West Bearden. They are truly the best and my dogs only go to them. Dr Brott is so good to all my dogs. Always gives them the best care. He saved our dog Gunnie when he had pneumonia and because of him Gunnie is still with us. We recently lost our beloved Tinkerbell to old age on a Sunday and Dr Brott was on call and returned our call immediately to help us with her after passing process. The entire staff sent a sympathy care and called to say how they will miss her too. They are very compassion and we will never take our dogs any where else.

I have been going to West Bearden/Bearden Hill Vet since I got my first dog seven years ago. They have been incredibly professional and wonderful throughout the whole time I have been with them. Recently, I took on two foster dogs. One of them ended up being pregnant. I immediately took her to West Bearden and got her started in their care. She had seven babies and we ended up losing three due to bad breeding and genetic abnormalities. These vets, techs, and office staff were there every single step of the way. They answered my frantic calls, worked me in any way they possibly could, and comforted me when things did not go the way I had hoped. I could not have gone through this whole ordeal without them. They were absolutely magical. I am so excited to say that I have four healthy puppies headed for a routine appointment tomorrow and there’s no one else I’d trust my pups with. Thank you to everyone especially Dr. Brott, Dr. Fred., Lola, and Wes!
