This establishment doesn’t want your business. Literally the rudest staff I’ve ever encountered. You’d think they’d be happy to have clients that want to see them, but when trying to schedule an appointment, the woman on the phone was so abrupt and rude it really makes me question the care there. I was waiting several weeks to get a surgical appointment for a dental cleaning and possibly another small procedure done pending talking with the vet. My dog only comes here for dental because of the price and she sees a holistic vet closer to my home for special care. She did great last time and I even took my cat here for a wellness check to become a patient. I asked for an update on some questions I had but was met with someone who truly hates their job and has no business interacting with customers. She shamed me for not coming to them full time and it was a favor to me for even seeing my dog for dental and said “Well you only come here because it’s cheap”. Yes I do come there for the price because it’s substantially less than my holistic vet. Price your services higher if that’s a problem!! I told her to cancel my appointment because her attitude was nothing but confrontational and I wouldn’t want to leave my dog in the care of this person.

Welcome to Village Veterinary Clinic
Welcome to Village Veterinary Clinic, your local Pet Hospital located at 147 S Main St, Mt Gilead, OH 43338, USA. We understand that your pets are cherished members of your family, and finding the right veterinary care is a crucial decision. As a dedicated Pet Hospital, Village Veterinary Clinic offers a range of services to cater to the diverse health needs of your beloved animals. While specific details about the clinic's environment and comprehensive service list are not explicitly available online, we can infer some aspects based on the available information, including customer reviews. It's important to note that online information might not always be exhaustive, and direct contact with the clinic is recommended for the most up-to-date and detailed information.
Based on customer feedback, Village Veterinary Clinic is known for its reasonable pricing, particularly for services like dental cleaning. One long-term customer expressed their trust in Dr. Prothman and the staff, highlighting their positive experiences over the years and referring to their pets as "furry children." This suggests a level of care and trust that has been built over time with the local pet owner community.
However, it's crucial to present a balanced view. Another customer reported a negative experience with the front office staff, describing them as rude and unaccommodating when trying to schedule an appointment. This review raises concerns about customer service and communication within the clinic. The customer's frustration stemmed from perceived shaming for not being a full-time client and an abrupt and confrontational attitude during a scheduling attempt for a dental cleaning and potential additional procedures. This interaction ultimately led the customer to cancel their appointment, emphasizing the significant impact of customer service on the overall perception of a healthcare provider, even in veterinary care.
Considering the category of "Pet Hospital," local users can generally expect Village Veterinary Clinic to offer a range of essential services. These typically include:
- Preventative Care: This often involves routine check-ups, vaccinations, parasite control (flea, tick, and heartworm prevention), and nutritional counseling to help keep your pets healthy and prevent potential health issues.
- Dental Care: As specifically mentioned in the reviews, dental cleaning is a service offered at Village Veterinary Clinic. Good dental hygiene is vital for the overall health of pets, preventing issues like gum disease and tooth decay.
- Diagnostics: While not explicitly detailed, a pet hospital usually provides diagnostic services which may include laboratory testing (blood work, urine analysis, fecal exams), and potentially imaging services like X-rays to help diagnose illnesses and injuries.
- Surgery: The mention of a "surgical appointment" for a dental cleaning suggests that the clinic performs surgical procedures. This could also extend to other types of surgeries depending on the clinic's capabilities and staffing.
- General Medical Care: This encompasses the treatment of various illnesses, infections, and injuries that pets may experience.
- Wellness Checks: A customer mentioned bringing their cat for a wellness check, indicating that the clinic offers routine examinations to assess the overall health of pets.
Features of Village Veterinary Clinic (based on available information):
- Reasonable Pricing: One of the key features highlighted by a positive review is the affordability of their services, particularly dental cleaning. This can be a significant factor for pet owners seeking quality care within a budget.
- Experienced Veterinarian: The positive review specifically mentions Dr. Prothman, suggesting an experienced veterinarian leading the clinic. The trust expressed by a long-term client indicates confidence in the veterinarian's expertise and care.
- Established Presence: The fact that a customer has been coming to the clinic for years implies an established presence within the local community.
Potential Areas for Consideration (based on available information):
- Customer Service Consistency: The stark contrast between the positive and negative reviews regarding staff interaction highlights a potential inconsistency in customer service. This is an area that prospective clients may want to consider and potentially inquire about.
- Scope of Services: While some services can be inferred, a comprehensive list of all services offered (e.g., specific types of surgeries, advanced diagnostics) is not available in the provided information. Local users may need to contact the clinic directly for a complete overview.
- Clinic Environment: Details about the clinic's facilities, equipment, and overall environment are not described in the provided text. Visiting the clinic or inquiring about their facilities could be beneficial for local users.
Promotional Information:
Based on the limited information, it's challenging to provide specific promotional offers. However, the positive feedback regarding reasonable pricing for services like dental cleaning could be considered a form of inherent value proposition. Local users looking for affordable dental care for their pets might find Village Veterinary Clinic a viable option. It is recommended to contact the clinic directly to inquire about any current promotions, discounts for new clients, or package deals they might offer for routine services like vaccinations or wellness checks.
In Conclusion:
Village Veterinary Clinic, located in Mt Gilead, Ohio, appears to be a Pet Hospital known for its reasonable prices and a veterinarian, Dr. Prothman, who has earned the trust of long-term clients. They offer services such as dental cleaning, wellness checks, and likely a range of other medical and surgical procedures expected from a veterinary clinic. However, potential clients should be aware of the reported inconsistencies in customer service and may want to directly engage with the clinic to assess their experience. For local users in Mt Gilead and the surrounding areas, Village Veterinary Clinic presents itself as a potentially affordable option for pet care. We encourage you to contact them directly at (419) 946-5136 to learn more about their services, environment, and to address any specific concerns you may have.

Mar 04, 2025 · Natalie WWe've been coming to Village Veterinary Clinic for years. Dr. Prothman and his staff are great. The prices are very reasonable and we trust them with our furry children. Thank you!
Mar 29, 2025 · Cassi BrownWe've been taking our many dogs and cats to Dr. Prothman since he opened many years ago. Each visit is well managed by his staff and his care is top notch. He's repaired damage to one of our cats caused by another local vet. He's stopped by our home on more than one occasion to put down deeply loved dogs, and did the same in his parking lot earlier this year. We consider ourselves so fortunate to have a professional with the comforting demeanor that makes some of his duties less traumatic for us. We wish the good doctor and wonderful staff many good years to come!
Oct 31, 2024 · Tim PicardOne of the worst vets I’ve been too, they prioritize money over the health of your pet. Went there spent $200 asked to speak to the vet because what they told me about my dog was incorrect and what they did wasn’t working. The lady says “well even then he will be charging a consultation fee” for me wanting to speak to the vet and let him know what we tried wasn’t working at all they wanted to charge me extra money just to talk to him on the phone for 5 minutes. Will not be coming back here ever.
Jan 16, 2025 · Twitter TweetsThey were fantastic for our beloved cat end of life process. Our regular vet isn't open on weekends, so I called Village Veterinary Clinic, and they were able to get us an appointment the next day at 9am so my wife and I could both be present when he passed. They were very thoughtful and kind throughout the whole process. we arrived shortly before 9am and walked right in with no wait at all. I'd highly recommend them, and we are going to see if we can start taking our other pets for regular check ups and shots.
