If you are looking for an Oncologist, I wouldn’t recommend to come here. We were disappointed, the oncologist department is not professional. They didn’t read the basic medical records about my dog, the visit was completely a waste of money and time. Dr Repoll didn’t offer any insight. They are friendly but that’s not why we went there for. Please you need to be more professional. We were called for a recheck which we don’t know what you are trying to offer. People are not stupid, please make sure you do care instead of trying to add more patient on your list. Surgery department was great and Dr Simpson was awesome

The environment at Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group, as inferred from customer feedback, presents a nuanced picture. While no specific details on the physical layout or aesthetic are provided, the reviews focus heavily on the interactions between staff, pet owners, and the pets themselves. The positive testimonials highlight an atmosphere of "kind, compassionate" care, particularly within departments like neurology and surgery. There is an evident effort by certain staff members, such as Dr. Mike Higgins and the neurology team, to foster a supportive environment where families "felt that we were listened to and supported." This suggests a patient-centric approach where communication and empathy are prioritized, especially during challenging medical situations. For pet owners dealing with serious diagnoses, this compassionate environment is crucial for alleviating stress and promoting a sense of partnership in their pet's care journey. The prompt return of phone calls and the time taken to review diagnoses and treatment plans contribute to creating a reassuring and professional setting, where clients feel informed and valued. However, it's also important to acknowledge that experiences can vary between departments, as indicated by a less favorable review regarding the oncology department's professionalism.
Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group provides a range of specialized veterinary services, as its name suggests, with a strong emphasis on medical and surgical interventions. The positive feedback specifically highlights the excellence of their Neurology and Surgery departments. Dr. Mike Higgins, a neurologist, is lauded for his great communication, keeping families updated on their "fur baby’s condition along with lab and radiology results," and taking significant time to "review diagnosis, treatment plan, and future needs for our pet." This indicates a high level of expertise in diagnosing and managing complex neurological conditions, which often require advanced imaging and precise treatment protocols. Similarly, the Surgery department receives high praise, with Dr. Simpson being described as "awesome." This suggests proficiency in performing various surgical procedures, ranging from routine to complex, with competent and caring hands. The services offered by VMSG extend beyond general practice, catering to animals requiring specialized care that may not be available at a typical veterinary clinic. This includes, but is not limited to, advanced diagnostics, specialized medical treatments, and intricate surgical interventions for various conditions. While the oncology department received a critical review, it implies that the facility does offer this specialization, even if the experience of one client was disappointing. The very nature of a "Surgical Group" implies a wide array of surgical specialties, potentially including orthopedics, soft tissue surgery, and emergency surgeries, all supported by a team of dedicated veterinary professionals and advanced equipment.
The key features of Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group, as gleaned from customer reviews, are its specialization and the varying levels of departmental excellence. The strength of VMSG lies in its ability to provide in-depth, specialized care in areas like neurology and surgery. The compassionate and highly communicative approach of certain specialists, such as Dr. Mike Higgins, is a defining characteristic. Clients appreciate the thoroughness with which diagnoses and treatment plans are discussed, ensuring they are fully informed and involved in their pet's care. The dedication to keeping clients updated through phone calls and detailed result explanations is also a notable feature, fostering trust and reducing anxiety. The staff, particularly in the positively reviewed departments, is described as kind, compassionate, and professional, demonstrating a genuine commitment to the well-being of the pets under their care. However, it's also a feature of VMSG that the experience may not be uniform across all departments. The feedback regarding the oncology department points to a need for more consistent professionalism and thoroughness in record review. This highlights that while certain specialized areas within VMSG are exemplary, there might be areas where service quality or client perception differs. The presence of multiple specialists under one roof, even with varying reviews, remains a key characteristic of the facility, allowing for a multidisciplinary approach to complex cases.
For promotional information, the most effective marketing for Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group comes from the strong positive testimonials, particularly for their neurology and surgery departments. The heartfelt gratitude expressed by clients whose pets received excellent care from Dr. Mike Higgins and Dr. Simpson serves as compelling evidence of their expertise and compassionate approach. These positive experiences, detailing clear communication, thorough explanations, and genuine support, naturally attract pet owners seeking high-quality specialized care. The emphasis on being "listened to and supported" resonates deeply with individuals facing difficult pet health challenges. While the critical review concerning the oncology department is a point of concern that prospective clients should be aware of, the overwhelming positive sentiment for other key departments still positions VMSG as a valuable resource. For pet owners in Ventura and beyond who require advanced surgical procedures or specialized neurological consultations, the positive word-of-mouth and detailed accounts of successful treatments and supportive care provide a strong incentive to consider VMSG. The presence of specialists means that referrals from general veterinarians are likely a significant source of new patients, and the positive outcomes and client satisfaction reinforce these referral networks. Ultimately, the reputation built on successful outcomes and compassionate interactions, especially in their highly-regarded specialized fields, forms the core of their promotional appeal, even with acknowledged areas for improvement.

Apr 24, 2025 · Miss JKind, compassionate, great communication. Kept us up to date with our fur baby’s condition along with lab and radiology results. Promptly returned phone calls. Took a great deal of time to review diagnosis, treatment plan, and future needs for our pet. Our family felt that we were listened to and supported. Deepest thanks to Dr Mike Higgins (neurology) and the great staff of VSMG.
May 22, 2025 · Claudia AquinoMy dog Bernie had a bad case of diarrhea so I took him in around 1:00AM and they were able to help him right away! Dr Favaloro was super nice and very thorough and patient! There was a male assistant there that was also great, but unfortunately, I cannot remember his name. It was my 1st time there and I was very satisfied with the service and cleanliness of the facility. I won’t hesitate to go back if/when needed.
Nov 24, 2024 · Cheryl ManolyAmazing team of doctors and staff. They got my ill 15 year old chihuahua back to good health. Queenie is back to normal and we are so thankful.
Mar 30, 2025 · Diane JCompassionate, knowledgeable, professional, thorough and so kind to both myself and my kitty. They truly care for and are considerate of the animals and their needs. The environment itself is set up very well for waiting owners and soothing for both owners and pets. My kitty was so calm she even napped while we were waiting. I will go back here for sure for any emergency needs, I wish they had a regular vet practice as well.
