At Veterinary Eye Clinic Alhambra, our clinic environment is meticulously designed to facilitate thorough ophthalmic examinations and procedures. Our facility is equipped with advanced diagnostic instrumentation specifically for veterinary ophthalmology, creating a comfortable and efficient space for both pets and their owners. We understand that eye examinations can sometimes be sensitive, and our team is trained to handle animals with care and patience, ensuring a stress-minimized experience. Our examination rooms are equipped with specialized lighting and equipment necessary for detailed evaluations of the various structures of the eye. For surgical procedures, we have a dedicated and sterile ophthalmic surgical suite with advanced microsurgical instrumentation to perform delicate eye surgeries with precision and care. Post-operative recovery areas are also designed for the comfort and safety of our patients.
As a specialized Pet Hospital, Veterinary Eye Clinic Alhambra offers a comprehensive range of services dedicated to the health and well-being of your pet's eyes. Our services include:
- Comprehensive Ophthalmic Examinations: Our board-certified or residency-trained veterinary ophthalmologists conduct thorough eye examinations, utilizing specialized equipment such as slit lamps, tonometers (to measure eye pressure), and indirect ophthalmoscopes to evaluate all structures of the eye, both internal and external. These detailed examinations allow us to accurately diagnose a wide range of eye conditions.
- Advanced Diagnostic Testing: To further investigate eye problems, we offer advanced diagnostic procedures, including ocular ultrasound to visualize the internal structures of the eye when visibility is limited, electroretinography (ERG) to assess the function of the retina, and gonioscopy to evaluate the drainage angle of the eye (important in glaucoma diagnosis). We also have the capability for tear film analysis and corneal staining to assess corneal health.
- Medical Management of Eye Diseases: Many eye conditions can be effectively managed with medication. Our ophthalmologists are experts in the medical treatment of various eye diseases, including conjunctivitis, keratitis (corneal inflammation), uveitis (inflammation inside the eye), glaucoma (increased eye pressure), and dry eye syndrome. We develop tailored treatment plans using the most current and effective medications.
- Ophthalmic Surgery: When surgery is necessary, our skilled veterinary ophthalmologists are proficient in performing a wide range of delicate eye surgeries. These procedures may include cataract surgery (removal of cloudy lens), glaucoma surgery (to lower eye pressure), corneal surgery (to repair injuries or treat ulcers), eyelid surgery (to correct abnormalities like entropion or ectropion), and enucleation (eye removal) when medically necessary. We utilize microsurgical techniques and advanced instrumentation to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- Treatment of Ocular Trauma: Eye injuries can be serious and require prompt and specialized care. Our team is experienced in managing various types of ocular trauma, including corneal lacerations, foreign bodies in the eye, and blunt trauma. We provide immediate care and develop treatment plans to minimize damage and preserve vision whenever possible.
- Management of Inherited Eye Diseases: Certain breeds of animals are predisposed to inherited eye conditions. Our ophthalmologists are knowledgeable in recognizing and managing these conditions, such as progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and lens luxation. We can provide genetic counseling and recommendations for managing these conditions to maintain your pet's vision for as long as possible.
- Neuro-ophthalmology: In some cases, vision problems can be related to neurological issues. Our specialists are trained to recognize these connections and can perform neuro-ophthalmic examinations to help diagnose and manage these complex cases, often collaborating with veterinary neurologists when necessary.

Dec 13, 2024 · Matt and HannahWe're in the process of getting help for our dog's autoimmune disorder that causes his body to attack his eyes. Dr. Potnis and other staff members are patient, kind, and responsive. We've emailed well after business hours and received quick and extensive responses. The clinic collaborates with a network of wonderful doctors. We feel cared for and heard, and we really appreciate the incredible knowledge their staff shares with us. Thank you for making something so scary feel manageable.
Mar 20, 2025 · Megan GarwoodI'm not even sure where to begin but Dr. Sheehan and her team at Veterinary Eye Clinic are the absolute best. We drove from Las Vegas to Alhambra to have Dr. Sheehan do the surgery. My dog, Tarzan, 11 years old at the time, had cataract surgery back at the end of October. The scheduling, surgery, and communication from Dr. Sheehan was more than I could ask for. They clearly explained the process of pre-testing, the surgery, and post-surgery care. Tarzan was totally blind in both eyes prior to the surgery and regained his sight completely. You could see an instant improvement in his mood and energy level. He was back to being the confident happy dog he was before. Tarzan has faced a few issues since the surgery because of his diabetes causing some problems. Dr. Sheehan was 100% upfront about potential issues we could face with him BEFORE the surgery. We took the risk and don't regret it at all. She's been there every step of the way. Every single time day or night that we've needed Dr. Sheehan, she has been there. Back home in Vegas, we had to go to an ER Vet late at night and had to do some emergency protocols when the pressures in his eyes spiked to a dangerously high level. He was at risk of his eyes actually exploiding, the pressures were so high. Thank God for Dr. Sheehan. The ER vet had no idea what to do and she guided them on what to do, which medications to dose, the timing, when to recheck pressures, and gave them her number if they ever had questions. Late into the night and early morning hours, she was texting and calling and checking in with us to see how Tarzan was faring. She is a truly passionate and caring doctor who wants the best for all pets and their parents. She has extended so mich kindness and care for Tarzan and us, I am truly grateful to have her in our lives. I would recommend VEC and Dr. Sheehan to anyone and everyone who needs veterinary eye care for their animals.
Mar 27, 2025 · Ashley MenzelWas recommended this eye specialist by my primary vet for my kitty. Everyone is very kind and I have never had to wait very long to get seen. Dr Pohl seems very knowledgeable and explains things clearly. Staff also seems to communicate my messages to the doctors who take the time to call me back. Good open and clear for everyone !
Feb 16, 2024 · Nathalie ChanThe team here is so kind, professional, knowledgeable, caring and communicative. My dog had a thorn in her eye and they found time to fit her in that day because it was an urgent situation. They operated on her eye the same day, and made me feel very confident that Zealand would be taken care of by the best team. Both doctor and vet techs were incredibly thorough in their explanations of what happened, how to take care of my girl post-op and they even saved the thorn they removed from her eye and gave it to me. My girl is recovering very well, and I could not be more grateful. Zealand loved the whole team, even with them doing tests on her eyes- she stayed calm with them because they were so compassionate in their care of her.
