My dog had an exam where Dr Shannon didn’t touch my dog- not even once. They just had to charge for the exam so that they could “re-establish care” since I had moved back to the area after being gone for just 6 months and I was 99% certain my dog had an ear hematoma. Without touching my dog, she prescribed prednisone, and my dog died of an unrelated infection one week later. Hunny was a member of the family for 12 years and my baby. I thought about going back with my other dog, but why? The first veterinarian my baby saw here was an older gentleman about 2.5 years ago. He retired the next day. Dr. Shannon was just terrible.

Veterinary Associates operates within the category of a Pet Hospital, signifying its role as a primary healthcare provider for animals. Pet hospitals typically offer a wide array of medical and surgical services, preventative care, and diagnostic procedures to ensure the health and well-being of pets. They serve as a crucial resource for pet owners seeking professional medical attention for their animals, ranging from routine check-ups to emergency care.

Regarding the environment of Veterinary Associates, specific details about the clinic's ambiance, facilities, and equipment are not explicitly provided in the given information. However, as a functioning pet hospital, it is reasonable to expect a clean and organized environment conducive to providing medical care for animals. This would typically include examination rooms for consultations, treatment areas for administering medications and performing minor procedures, and potentially surgical suites for more complex interventions. Depending on the size and scope of the practice, they may also have in-house diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines or laboratory facilities for quick analysis of samples.

The services offered at Veterinary Associates are likely to encompass a broad spectrum of veterinary care. These generally include routine wellness exams and vaccinations, which are essential for preventative healthcare and maintaining your pet's overall health. They would also likely offer diagnostic services to identify illnesses or injuries, which could involve physical examinations, laboratory tests (blood work, urine analysis, etc.), and imaging techniques (radiography, ultrasound, etc.).

Treatment services would also be a core offering, ranging from prescribing medications for various conditions to performing surgical procedures when necessary. This could include routine surgeries like spaying and neutering, as well as more complex operations depending on the veterinarians' specialties and the clinic's capabilities. Dental care is another important aspect of pet health, and Veterinary Associates may offer services such as teeth cleaning, extractions, and other dental treatments.

Given the nature of a pet hospital, it is also plausible that Veterinary Associates provides emergency care services, although the extent and availability of these services are not specified in the provided information. Features that might distinguish Veterinary Associates could include the experience and qualifications of their veterinary staff, the availability of specialized services, the use of advanced medical technology, and their approach to patient care. The reviews provided offer some insight into these aspects, albeit with contrasting experiences.

One review describes a negative experience where a dog was not physically examined, leading to a prescription without a hands-on assessment. This review raises concerns about the thoroughness of the examination and the potential consequences of a diagnosis made without direct physical contact. The mention of a "re-establishment of care" fee after a short absence also highlights a specific administrative policy of the clinic.

Conversely, another review presents a positive experience, praising the staff for being accommodating on short notice, kind, and informative. This reviewer also noted their cat's positive reaction to the staff and the doctor's engagement with their child during the exam, suggesting a friendly and inclusive approach. This positive feedback indicates that some clients have experienced compassionate and efficient service at Veterinary Associates.

It is important for local users to consider both positive and negative feedback when evaluating veterinary care providers. Individual experiences can vary, and it is often beneficial to seek a range of opinions or perhaps speak directly with the clinic to address any specific concerns.

Regarding promotional information, none is explicitly provided in the given data. Pet hospitals may sometimes offer introductory discounts for new clients, seasonal promotions for specific services (like dental cleaning month), or package deals for routine preventative care. Local users are encouraged to contact Veterinary Associates directly to inquire about any current promotions or special offers that might be available.

In summary, Veterinary Associates in Iowa City functions as a pet hospital, offering a range of veterinary services for local pet owners. While one customer review raises significant concerns about the thoroughness of care in a specific instance, another highlights positive aspects such as accommodating staff and a friendly approach. As with any service provider, it is recommended that potential clients conduct their own due diligence, perhaps by contacting the clinic directly, asking specific questions about their pet's needs, and considering multiple sources of information to make an informed decision about their pet's veterinary care.

The staff squeezed us in on short notice and were incredibly kind and informative. My cat loved them (was purring and flirting with them even while she got a shot!) and the doctor included my son in the exam. Afterward, he played vet for an hour with his toys in his room. Thank you to this wonderful clinic.

I needed to find a veterinarian clinic for our dogs since moving to Iowa for their health check up and immunizations and in order to have them stay at a kennel when I'm traveling out of town. I made an appointment at Veterinarian Associates in Iowa City as the waiting time for new customers wasn't too long. The clinic staff was excellent and very friendly, polite, and professional. The technician truly enjoys dogs and made our dogs feel very comfortable and at ease. The veterinarian was also great and had a great bedside manner while examining our dogs. In addition to getting updated vaccinations, the veterinarian completed a physical exam for both dogs. The costs for the physical exams and immunization was very reasonable and the clinic also sent the immunization records to the kennel I will be using for our dogs. Although Veterinarian Associates is a little further away from where we live and there are some clinics closer, I was very pleased with them and will continue to take our dogs to Veterinarian Associates in the future.

Veterinary Associates has provided my golden the best, affordable care in iowa city for 2 years now. He recently ingested some medicine he wasn’t supposed to and when I called to ask for advice they were so patient and helpful. They even called the next day to ask how he was doing. I really appreciate that any time my dog needs some type of medication or new food, they always walk me through all of the potential options, instead of just recommending the most expensive one like many vets do. I will continue to trust them with my fur baby.
