I texted when I showed up. I waited in my car and never received a return text to come in. So I entered the building 5 mins before my appointment time. Then I had to wait in line. This was my rescues first time in a store. He was over stimulated by all of the dogs. I was nervous because I did not know how my dog would react. Once it was my turn, it was quick. They gave my dog treats to distract him. That experience was a relief.

Welcome to Vetco Vaccination Clinic
Vetco Vaccination Clinic, located at 105 Mt Auburn Ave #120, Auburn, ME 04210, USA, serves as a convenient and accessible option for pet owners seeking preventative veterinary care. Operating within Petco stores, Vetco aims to make essential pet health services more readily available to local communities. The clinic's phone number is (207) 786-9280, and the mobile phone number is +1 207-786-9280.
As a 'Pet Hospital' category on various platforms, Vetco Vaccination Clinic focuses primarily on preventative care, rather than comprehensive veterinary services typically found at a full-service animal hospital. This distinction is crucial for pet owners to understand. Their services are designed to be efficient and streamlined, catering to pets needing routine vaccinations, microchipping, and parasite prevention.
The environment of a Vetco Vaccination Clinic is generally integrated into the Petco retail store setting. This means that while waiting for their appointments, pets and their owners will be in an environment with other animals and general store activity. This can be a mixed experience; for some pets, the presence of other animals might be stimulating, while for others, especially those prone to anxiety or overstimulation, it can be challenging. One customer review highlighted this, mentioning their rescue dog becoming "over stimulated by all of the dogs" while waiting in line, leading to initial nervousness for the owner. However, the same review also noted that once it was their turn, the process was "quick" and staff used treats to distract the dog, making the experience a "relief." This suggests that while the waiting environment might not be ideal for all, the staff are equipped to handle pets during the actual service.
Services offered at Vetco Vaccination Clinics primarily revolve around preventative care. These include:
- Vaccinations for dogs and cats: This is a core service, covering essential immunizations such as rabies, distemper, and other recommended vaccines based on a pet's lifestyle and local regulations. They offer both 1-year and 3-year vaccination options for rabies and distemper, depending on previous vaccination history and state/county laws.
- Microchipping: This vital service helps reunite lost pets with their owners by implanting a tiny chip with identification information.
- Flea, Tick, and Heartworm Prevention: Vetco clinics provide various prescription preventative medications to protect pets from common parasites.
- Testing: This includes heartworm and tick-borne disease testing, as well as fecal testing for intestinal parasites. For cats, they offer FIV, FeLV & heartworm testing.
- Wellness Packages: Vetco often provides bundled wellness packages for puppies, kittens, adult dogs, and adult cats, which typically include a combination of vaccinations, deworming, and testing, aiming to offer comprehensive preventative care at a potentially lower cost.
A key feature of Vetco Vaccination Clinic is its focus on accessible and often lower-cost preventative care. They aim to be a convenient option for pet owners who may not require a full-service veterinary visit or who are looking for more affordable solutions for routine health maintenance. They typically operate on specific clinic hours, often on weekends and some weeknights, to accommodate busy schedules. One of their stated benefits is "no exam fees" for their clinic services, which can be a significant cost-saver compared to traditional veterinary offices that charge an examination fee regardless of the services rendered.
However, it is important for pet owners to be aware of the limitations inherent in this model. As a vaccination clinic, Vetco typically does not offer diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, dental procedures, or emergency care. For these types of services, pets would need to be referred to a full-service veterinary hospital. Some customer reviews highlight potential challenges, such as waiting times, even with appointments, or issues with communication regarding stock of certain vaccines. One concerning review mentioned a dog passing away after routine vaccines, with the clinic offering only a refund for the vaccine cost and a reimbursement basis for a necropsy. While this is a severe and rare incident, it underscores the importance of discussing any pre-existing health conditions or concerns with the attending veterinarian, and understanding the scope of services provided.
Promotional information for Vetco Vaccination Clinic often emphasizes affordability and convenience. They frequently run promotions such as:
- Free Heartworm Test with purchase of 12 doses of select Rx preventatives.
- Free Microchipping with the purchase of a Best Value vaccine package.
- Discounts on certain vaccination packages.
- In some instances, new pet owners might find offers for a "FREE FIRST VET EXAM" at their full-service hospitals, though this may not apply to the specific vaccination clinic model.
These promotions aim to make preventative care more attainable for a broader range of pet owners, aligning with their mission to increase access to quality veterinary services. It's advisable to check their website or contact the Auburn location directly for current promotional offers and clinic schedules.
In summary, Vetco Vaccination Clinic in Auburn, ME, provides a specialized service within the broader 'Pet Hospital' category. Its strength lies in offering convenient, focused, and often more affordable access to essential preventative care services like vaccinations, microchipping, and parasite control. While the environment is integrated into a retail setting, and there might be occasional wait times, the clinic aims to deliver quick and efficient service. Pet owners seeking comprehensive medical care beyond routine prevention should consider a full-service veterinary hospital, but for routine vaccinations and preventative measures, Vetco Vaccination Clinic stands as a viable option in the Auburn area.

Jun 24, 2024 · Cathie NoversaBeware took our dog in Saturday for routine vaccines, Sunday night she passed away. Petco only offered a refund of cost for the vaccine, and that the cost of the necropsy would be on a reimbursement basis. Our dog was acting normal before the vaccine then went downhill.
