Vetco Vaccination Clinic Introduce
Vetco Vaccination Clinic in Stratford, CT, located at 955 Ferry Blvd, operates as a specialized "Pet Hospital" primarily focused on preventive care services. Unlike full-service veterinary hospitals, Vetco Vaccination Clinics, often situated inside Petco stores, concentrate on essential wellness services such as vaccinations, microchipping, and certain diagnostic tests, aiming to provide accessible and affordable options for pet owners. The Stratford location benefits from its integration within a larger retail environment, allowing for convenience for pet owners who may also be purchasing pet supplies.
As a Vetco Vaccination Clinic, the Stratford location is typically set up within a Petco store. This means the environment is generally that of a retail pet supply store, with a dedicated section or counter for the clinic services. The facilities are designed for efficiency in administering vaccinations and basic preventive care. You would expect a designated waiting area, a consultation or examination space, and storage for vaccines and medical supplies. Unlike a standalone, full-service veterinary hospital, there are typically no surgical suites, extensive diagnostic imaging equipment (beyond perhaps a handheld ultrasound for quick scans), or overnight boarding facilities. The focus is on a streamlined process for quick visits centered around preventive health. While specific details of the Stratford location's internal setup are not extensively detailed, the overall environment is structured to facilitate high-volume, walk-in or appointment-based vaccination and wellness services within a retail context. Trained staff are typically on-site to manage operations and assist with pet restraint, allowing the licensed veterinarian to focus on medical aspects.
Vetco Vaccination Clinics specialize in a focused range of preventive veterinary services, making essential care more accessible. Their core offerings at the Stratford location typically include:
Vaccinations: This is the primary service. Vetco offers a variety of vaccines for both dogs and cats, including core vaccines like Rabies, Distemper/Parvo (for dogs), and FVRCP (for cats). They also offer non-core vaccines such as Leptospirosis, Bordetella, and Lyme for dogs, and Feline Leukemia for cats, based on the pet's lifestyle and risk factors. They often have tiered "packages" designed to cover common vaccination needs for puppies, kittens, and adult pets.
Microchipping: For pet identification and increasing the chances of reunification if a pet gets lost, microchip insertion services are provided.
Parasite Testing and Prevention: This includes diagnostic testing for heartworm and tick-borne diseases, as well as recommendations and sale of various parasite prevention medications (e.g., flea and tick preventatives, heartworm medication). They may offer deworming services for common intestinal parasites.
Wellness Examinations: While not a full diagnostic exam for sick pets, a basic wellness examination is typically part of the vaccination visit to ensure the pet is healthy enough to receive vaccines and to assess overall well-being. It is important to note that Vetco Clinics typically do not handle sick visits, emergencies, or perform surgeries.
Basic Diagnostic Tests: Beyond heartworm and tick-borne disease tests, they might offer basic fecal tests to check for intestinal parasites and feline triple tests for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).
The defining feature of Vetco Vaccination Clinic is its "low-cost, high-volume" model focused on preventive care. This model aims to make essential veterinary services more affordable and accessible to a broader pet-owning population, particularly for routine vaccinations and parasite control, where traditional veterinary clinics might be perceived as more expensive. A key aspect of their operation is the absence of exam fees when services are purchased, which can significantly reduce the overall cost of a visit for preventive needs. They operate on an appointment-based model to manage traffic and minimize wait times, though walk-ins may be accommodated if time permits. The clinics are staffed by state-licensed veterinarians who administer vaccines and oversee the services, supported by trained paraprofessional staff who handle operations and assist with pet restraint. This specialized approach means that while they offer critical preventive services, they typically do not provide comprehensive medical care for sick or injured animals, directing such cases to full-service veterinary hospitals. Their integration within Petco stores adds a layer of convenience for pet owners.
Vetco Vaccination Clinic promotes itself as an affordable and convenient option for essential preventive pet care. They highlight their transparent pricing model, which often includes various packages for puppies, kittens, and adult dogs and cats, designed to offer cost savings compared to à la carte services. Pricing for individual vaccines, microchipping, and tests is typically available. For instance, common packages like "Pup Start" or "Kitten Start" include initial vaccines, dewormer, and a fecal test. They emphasize the benefits of regular vaccinations in preventing serious diseases and offer prescription pest solutions. Information about specific package deals and individual service prices can usually be found on their website or by contacting the clinic directly at (203) 378-9004 or +1 203-378-9004. They may also run seasonal promotions or offer discounts on products when purchased with certain packages. The operating hours for the Stratford location are typically specific days of the week, with morning and afternoon clinic blocks, which can be found on their official website or the Petco website for that location.
Customer experiences at Vetco Vaccination Clinic locations, including Stratford, can be quite varied, often reflecting the specific nature of a high-volume, focused-service model. While the low cost and convenience are often appealing, some reviews highlight challenges related to customer service and scheduling. For the Stratford location, there are notably negative reviews regarding staff professionalism and service delivery. One customer reported an "EXTREMELY Rude" staff member named Melanie and a veterinarian who allegedly refused to provide her name after what the customer perceived as a mistake, leading to a strong recommendation to avoid the Stratford location. Another customer recounted being turned away from the Stratford location shortly before closing time, then experiencing significant issues at another location (Milford) with long waits and a missed appointment due to a text message not being received. These reviews suggest that while the service model aims for efficiency, actual experiences can sometimes fall short due to operational issues or individual staff interactions. Pet owners considering Vetco should be aware that the clinics are designed for healthy pets needing routine preventive care and may not be equipped to handle complex medical issues, which would require a full-service veterinary hospital. Prospective clients might consider contacting the clinic in advance to clarify their pet's specific needs and the clinic's capacity to meet them, and to understand their appointment and wait time policies.

Feb 27, 2025 · SweetHeart JI brought my puppy to the Stratford location on Saturday March 14th only to be turned away at 4:45pm. They didn't even tell me to go to Milford the next day. So I went on Sunday to the Milford location. I signed in and was told it was a 2 1/2hr wait. I waited came back a only to be told they texted me and the vet left. I never received a text. Very rude
Mar 20, 2020 · Maria Bernal-GierulaIt is very good for vaccination. They let you stay with your pet, not like other vet clinics now with the pandemic. App avalable like 1 month depending of Petco location. Hope I get my cat vaccinated, without him getting sedated. Plus the prices for vaccination are very low ( I did not check the vaccines quality)
Apr 29, 2021 · Monica HristuThe veterinarian and staff were very kind and courteous. We were in and out very fast.
Apr 13, 2024 · Miriam DiazWhat an awful experience with the pet clinic on Saturday April 27. I'm not sure who is at fault, but there was no organization whatsoever! All i know is we were there for over 2 hours for no good reason.
