Dr. Juan, Jose, and the entire front staff are THE BEST! My dog is 7 and had his first health scare last week. He randomly became severely dehydrated, lost weight, and I had no idea what to do. Prior to this, I'd only ever seen Dr. Juan for his wellness exam. I scheduled a sick visit the night before for the morning and even called when they opened to bring him in sooner. The staff was so kind to tell me to just bring him in and either be seen by her sooner or by urgent care. Once he was seen, Jose and Dr. Juan checked in as often as they could, explaining what's best for my dog as well as prices. (I will say pricing is a huge negative, especially with a lot of low cost vets around) It got to a point where I couldn't afford much else for my baby, but I never felt pressured to spend more unnecessarily and they made sure that my dog was safe to come home within my budget. The following day Jose reached out to check in and helped me get an appetite stimulant for my dog since the whole ordeal left him not wanting to eat. 6 days later, my baby is hydrated, eating, and playing once again and I'm SOOOO thankful! For any nervous pet parents I'd 100000% recommend Dr. Juan and Jose. To everyone at VCA McClave thank you so much for being the friendliest faces during the scariest times! I don't even live in the area anymore and have a closer VCA but will always drive back here.

I can't speak highly enough of VCA McClave Animal Hospital and the incredible care they provide! Dr. Juan and Jose are absolutely amazing. They go above and beyond to make sure our cat, Nala, receives the best treatment possible. From the moment we walk in, we are always greeted with warmth and professionalism. Mikayla at the front desk is also fantastic—she's always so friendly, efficient, and helpful, making check-in a breeze. The entire staff is incredibly welcoming, always assisting us with a smile and ensuring we feel comfortable and informed throughout every visit. Dr. Juan takes the time to thoroughly explain everything and listens carefully to all of our concerns. Jose is equally wonderful, showing genuine care and attention to detail. It's clear that they both are passionate about what they do and treat our pets like family. We are so grateful for the exceptional care Nala has received. Highly recommend this wonderful team!

Greg Sauer at VCA McClave is deeply unprofessional, and seemingly willfully incompetent. During our appointment, he would deflect any questions we had about our dog showing signs of blood sugar issues. Which was the entire reason for the visit. Pushing either flea shampoos or $500+ tests that couldn't even be completed during the appointment, clearly in an effort to get us out as soon as possible. He even said at the end "You took up so much of my time, every other appointment of mine takes 5-10 minutes." We could see why. All we wanted was a way to monitor our dogs blood sugar, ideally a continuous blood sugar monitor like a freestyle libre, as our dog has been having intermittent seizures, lethargy, recurring infections, and more recently a acetone-smell in his breath, that also suggests potential diabetes or hypoglycemia. He even agreed that the symptoms were exactly what he'd expect from hypoglycemia, but he refused to do anything about it beyond telling us what flea shampoo to use. Just so we're clear, there were no fleas present. He spent 45 minutes trying to convince us that a blood sugar monitor wasn't "worth it". Rolling his eyes and scoffing while we're talking. He also admitted he doesn't know how to install those monitors. It's basically a sticker, guys. There IS a vet who is able to do that, but he wouldn't refer us to her. He then tried to convince us it wasn't possible to request previous records from our usual VCA hospital to verify our dog's bloodwork. We sent handfuls of his previous vet records via email, but a few recent ones were missing. What vet can't request records? From another VCA of all places? He chastised us for the dosage of allergy medication our dog is currently on, (prescribed and monitored by our local VCA.) The only thing he suggested was a 500 dollar insulin / glucose test that requires 4 hours of fasting, so we'd need to come back another day BUT still pay him for this one of course. Extremely unhelpful, would talk over us while we were explaining our concerns. I swear, I had to reiterate the same things 3-4 times as he'd repeat it back to me incorrectly. He could've ordered a fructosamine test, as those don't need any sort of fasting. He could've done a quick blood glucose test, as we requested, so we'd at least have some sort of reference. He could've done a urinalysis to check for glucose levels. Kept giving us reasons as to why HE thought it didn't matter, "you'd eventually need to do that 532 dollar test anyway". I wanted to be able to monitor my dog's blood sugar over a period of time so we could make an informed decision on his health. He could've just written a prescription based on presenting symptoms, and we could've gotten one from the pharmacy. It seems it was his goal to be obstinate and not have to do anything. I'm not joking when I say he didn't attend to a single one of our conerns. Hypoglycemia, if untreated, can kill overnight. He just wanted to clock out early. Apparently our dog was "his last appointment of the day", but it was 4pm.. and they close at 6. It wasn't last minute, we made an appointment the day before, fully detailing all of our concerns, and he clearly couldn't care less. After all of this, one of the male nurses / receptionist(?) went outside and saw my partner crying after having to deal with all of this. They looked at her, LAUGHED, then closed the door. Disgusting. I'm not joking when I saw this was probably the most disgraceful experience we've had in any professional environment, by an enormous margin. Then Greg drives by in his car, looks at my lady, gives a big old smile, waves, and drives off. It's almost comical how bad our experience was. Willfully negligent, dangerously underqualified, disgraceful excuse of a caretaker to be responsible for people's pets. We will be filing a formal complaint.

I remember scouring through the valley for emergency vets when my cats head started shaking violently. Seizure like. I called this place ahead of time to ask if theyre taking in emergencies at the time and they said yes. We drive 20 minutes over only for the no-brain male receptionist to tell us they werent taking any and the last one they took was 45 minutes ago. I called 20 minutes ago how does that makes sense??? On top of that he asked dog based questions just guessing it was a dog and didnt even asked. Then told him that it was my cat and started to name out the symptoms. This ahole under your roof had the audacity to say it wasnt an emergency when he’s just a receptionist. Needless to say when we found another vet place, they did deem it as an emergency. We would have gotten overcharged at VCA anyways. But honestly? Train your receptionists to not diagnose in place of an actual vet. Do f’ing better.

I love VCA McClave Animal Hospital! The staff is always kind to my senior dog Boom Boom, who seems to enjoy coming here. The floors are easy for him to walk on and the place is always clean. It used to be a longer wait for an appointment but it seems like there are more doctors available now to care for the pets so the wait isn't so bad. Boom Boom has neck and joint problems so my number one concern is that he's comfortable. I feel like he's treated with kindness here and I'm able to provide him a comfortable life with what the doctor has recommended for him. I used to work here years ago but moved on in 2007. This is still my primary veterinary hospital though. I like that you can make an appointment or ask for a walk in time if you have an urgent situation come up. I also appreciate that they'll text you when your refill is ready if you request it. They have a cool app that you can look up your invoices and etc. on as well. They've also recently added a valet to the parking lot so it's easy in and out. I'm including a picture of Boom Boom because at his most recent visit in December 2022 because he's super cute.
