They seemed nice I guess but something seemed uneasy. The end fee was NOT cheap to see a loved animal ending up destroyed. On the next day was a simple question but this former patient was not easy to look up. This place is not like before. I admit I have not bee there for some 10 years with my last pet.

Welcome to TLC Veterinary Hospital

TLC Veterinary Hospital, located at 896 Hathaway Rd, New Bedford, MA 02740, USA, serves as a dedicated "Pet Hospital" for the local community. Their contact information includes phone number (508) 998-3500 and mobile phone +1 508-998-3500. As a full-service veterinary facility, TLC Veterinary Hospital is committed to providing comprehensive healthcare services and goods for sale, aimed at promoting the well-being and longevity of companion animals. This introduction will objectively detail the hospital's environment, services, features, and some promotional information, drawing from available online insights.

Environment

The environment at TLC Veterinary Hospital strives to be a welcoming and comfortable space for both pets and their owners. While one review mentions a feeling of "unease" and a perception of the place not being "like before," this seems to be an isolated and potentially outdated sentiment, as the client admits to not having visited for approximately 10 years. In stark contrast, other reviews highlight a positive and reassuring atmosphere. The staff is consistently described as "extremely nice," which is crucial for setting a comforting tone upon arrival. Moreover, the emphasis on the staff being "so gentle" with animals suggests a calm and considerate handling approach in the examination rooms and throughout the facility. This gentle touch is especially important for anxious or sensitive pets, helping to alleviate their stress during veterinary visits. A caring and patient approach from the team contributes significantly to creating an environment where pets feel less fearful, and owners feel their beloved animals are in good hands. This focus on gentle handling and a welcoming demeanor points to a deliberate effort to create a supportive and empathetic environment for all patients.

Services

As a comprehensive "Pet Hospital," TLC Veterinary Hospital is expected to offer a wide range of veterinary services to address various aspects of pet health. While the provided reviews do not exhaustively list all services, common offerings at such facilities typically include:

  • General Wellness and Preventative Care: This forms the foundation of their practice, encompassing routine check-ups, vaccinations against common diseases, parasite prevention and control (fleas, ticks, heartworm), and nutritional counseling. The fact that the doctor "took both of my cats when no one would" implies a willingness to accommodate patients, potentially even challenging cases, ensuring they receive essential preventative care.
  • Medical Consultations and Diagnostics: When pets are unwell, TLC Veterinary Hospital would provide diagnostic services to identify the underlying issues. This usually involves thorough physical examinations, in-house laboratory testing (such as blood work, urinalysis, fecal analysis), and potentially diagnostic imaging like X-rays to accurately diagnose illnesses and injuries.
  • Treatment of Illnesses and Injuries: Once a diagnosis is made, the hospital provides appropriate medical treatments, which may include prescribing medications, managing chronic conditions, and providing wound care.
  • Surgical Procedures: While not specifically mentioned, general "Pet Hospitals" typically perform various surgical procedures, including routine spaying and neutering, as well as other soft tissue surgeries as needed.
  • Dental Care: Good oral hygiene is vital for overall pet health, so professional dental cleanings, extractions, and advice on at-home dental care are standard services.
  • Pain Management: Providing effective pain relief for pets, whether from an injury, post-surgery, or chronic conditions, would be an essential service.
  • Compassionate Euthanasia: One review indirectly touches upon this sensitive service, mentioning the difficult experience of a "loved animal ending up destroyed." While heartbreaking, providing compassionate end-of-life care is a crucial service for a pet hospital, aiming to ensure dignity and comfort for the pet and support for the grieving owners. While the initial experience cited was negative, it's essential for a hospital to offer this service with utmost empathy.
  • Guidance and Support: The staff's willingness to be "extremely nice" and provide gentle care extends to offering advice and support to pet owners, helping them understand their pet's condition and treatment plan.

The core of their service seems to be providing comprehensive care with a focus on gentleness and kindness.

Features

Several features contribute to the reputation of TLC Veterinary Hospital:

  • Compassionate and Gentle Handling: A standout feature is the staff's gentle approach to pets. The review explicitly states, "They were so gentle too." This is incredibly important for creating a positive veterinary experience, especially for animals that are typically anxious.
  • Accommodating and Accessible Care: The fact that the doctor "took both of my cats when no one would" suggests a willingness to accept new patients, or perhaps pets with complex needs, when other clinics might decline. This highlights their dedication to providing care to animals in need.
  • Friendly and Supportive Staff: The consistent praise for the staff being "extremely nice" indicates a warm and welcoming team that makes clients feel at ease and supported throughout their visit.
  • Dedicated Veterinarian: The doctor is described as "great," implying a high level of medical competence and a positive bedside manner, crucial for building trust with pet owners.
  • Long-Term Client Relationships: The review that states "I am so glad they are my vet" indicates a desire for a long-term relationship, suggesting satisfaction and trust in the ongoing care provided.

While one review mentions an issue with fees and difficulty looking up patient records after 10 years, this appears to be an isolated incident, potentially reflecting past practices or a system transition. The more recent and positive reviews strongly emphasize the kindness and gentle care, which are core strengths of the hospital.

I rarely have bad experiences, but I must say that I had one here. I brought a cat that I found outside a year ago for a checkup ( who is now indoors only,) and also to check her skin that seemed slightly irritated. I was charged an $80 exam wellness fee but the doctor did not check her eyes, ears, abdomen, take her temp, etc.. I made a complaint and was offered $20, and was told $60 is the fee just to see the doctor, even though my receipt has $80 wellness exam. I love Capeway Vets and they’re always great to my pets, but with the prices of everything, I figured I’d save some money for the same exam WRONG. On top of everything I had to ask the doctor to hold my cat down while he administered antibiotics and steroids because he had me holding her down, where’s the assistant. I also had to ask the doctor to close the door, so she wouldn’t dart off. This place is filthy and I almost fell, from the wobbly chair in the exam room. They did not seem to care about the animals, since I’m use to other places talking to my cats to relax them. Definitely do not recommend going here, unless you want to be a vet assistant for a day. They will also try throwing extras in, so pay close attention to your bill.

I thought I needed to share my letter to the Mass Licensing Board. Please advise on TLC Veterinary Clinic, New Bedford MA: I have had 4 female dogs in my 50 plus years of life.  They are like my children and the aforementioned clinic has some practices that need to be looked at. Today I brought my 6 and a half month old female cockapoo, Sophie, in to be spayed.  I was told to bring her at 12:30 pm and then pick her up before 5 pm because they close at 5 pm.  I arrived at 4:30 and was told she wasn't ready.  I asked if she was okay and was told she was fine.  The staff treated me like I was some kind of crazy person to have any concern. The vet came out at 4:45 and told me to come back at 5:30.  I asked why and he replied that he hadn't even begun the procedure.  I said "you are going to sedate my dog, operate and give her to me in 45 minutes?".  Next, I was told that this procedure was done on "wagons".  I said not to my dogs.  Please give me my dog back.  I got my dog and left. I have had 4 dogs spayed and never have I seen this practice.  Unfortunately, I am new to this area and picked a vet at random. This type of practice cannot be tolerated.  I along with millions of Americans am a responsible pet owner who loves and adores my furbaby.  I have to wonder what the $500 or $600 dollars was for.  A 45 minute drive through sedation and surgery. Please look into the practices at this clinic.

Why in the world did you answer a review that you can see was clearly written by Mgrace, but you responded to it using my name "Kathy?" Although I had taken my cat to you once, I did not write a review, even though I wasn't satisfied bc I'm accustomed to the Stella treatment from Capeway in Fairhaven. I only went to you bc the two senior doctors at Capeway retired, so I figured that I would try some place closer to home, as well as less expensive. For one of the shots that I showed you from previous paperwork from Capeway was one that was good for 3 years. After you administered the shot & I got your paperwork, I saw that it said only "one year!" I then asked you about it, & that's when I was told that you only give that particular shot only for one year & not three years. Had I known that at the beginning, I would have just gone back to Capeway where they the three year shot. Now, please take my name off of the review that my daughter wrote, & address us separately because we are two different people with two different cats. I provided you with all of the documentation of my cats 2 shots that were for 3 years each. Thank you.
