I usually don鈥檛 write reviews, but this place is incredibly kind and affordable. In an emergency I was looking for day vets to do a surgery on my dog and not many seemed to care or wanted to genuinely help me. Dr. Jacobson is overall friendly and helpful. He did everything he could to help my doggy and I can鈥檛 express how happy I am to find this place for my dog. My dog is more than just a pet, he really is my family and I鈥檓 grateful a kind hearted person like Dr. Jacobson and all of the Hometown Vet鈥檚 staff are. Although I am an hour away from their clinic, I will now say that this will be my primary vet for my dog. It feels good to know that there are people who will care as much as I do for my dog because he is sincerely like my own child. Again, I am so thankful for the Hometown Vet staff and everyone who works there. They truly care about our pet babies and the staff deserve the upmost happiness for their kind hearts 馃挄

Jan 27, 2025 路 pattanaDear Dr. Rachael Franken, First, I want to say that I NEVER write reviews, but I MUST share how amazing you and the staff at The Hometown Veterinarian have been. I was recently dog-sitting my boyfriend鈥檚 dog and noticed issues with bladder control and urination. It seemed to me that Max might have a UTI. Since it was after vet hours, I had a very long night with him, as he wanted to go outside every 5-10 minutes. Although I no longer own any animals, I was familiar with Dr. Jacobson from when I had a dog. I looked him up and was excited to discover that his office opens at 7:30 a.m. Additionally, I found an online message center where I could enter my information, which I found impressive. The following day, I called the office at 7:30 am sharp, and a friendly staff member assisted me with my concerns. She explained that her process was to enter my message and then schedule me for the day. Understanding how busy schedules can be, I was eager to see the veterinarian as soon as possible. I provided the staff member with more details about my situation, and she promptly checked to see what she could do. She asked, "Can you be here in 10 minutes?" I told her that I was grateful for her willingness to go the extra mile for me. From the moment I walked through the doors, the front desk staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The staff member who took Max and me back to the exam room was a total sweetheart; I could tell she genuinely cared about animals. With my boyfriend being almost 2 hours away and me responsible for his sick dog, I finally felt at ease with Hometown Veterinarian by my side. The staff took Max to the back for testing, and the staff member reassured me that I could go to work as he would be in good hands. She told me they would call me with an update. Max does not live in this town and has never been to this Vet. Max is a lovely boy, but he is afraid of strangers. However, I felt comfortable leaving him in their care. Later that day, I received a call from Dr. Franken. She explained Max鈥檚 test results and the following steps, options, and treatments. Dr. Franksen demonstrated the most significant impact through her empathy and understanding during this challenging time. I was able to communicate Max's situation to my boyfriend over the phone. As he was faced with a tough decision, despite recovering from his surgery, he rushed to Marshalltown to be with Max. We picked up Max, and the Doctor met with us, taking the time to explain everything to us and being very compassionate. He was able to take Max home for a couple of days until his next appointment. Two days later, we dropped him off for more testing. To hear you cherished pet receives an unexpected cancer diagnosis, it becomes an overwhelming situation for the owner. Especially one that does not look or act sick. Like many of us with dogs or animals, we consider them members of our family. Unfortunately, his cancer was causing his bowels and bladder not to function. A quick decision had to be made for Max. The doctor was very compassionate and provided us with both emotional support and guidance, which allowed us to take the following steps with love and care. The doctor told us we could spend some time with him, but not too long- as his bladder would fill back up soon, and he would be uncomfortable. We spent some time with him and got him a cheeseburger, just as the doctor suggested, and he cried all day! We brought Max back to The Hometown Veterinarian for the last time. We appreciated the veterinarians and staff member鈥檚 compassion during the euthanasia process. We were at ease with her, knowing that she would ensure peaceful and humane treatment for Max. As we are not regular patients of this veterinarian, you will quickly discover that this veterinary team demonstrates compassion and empathy. The kindness shown by this doctor and the team creates a trusting and healing environment that will help us ease through this challenging journey. From the bottom of our hearts- Thank you! Allen & Jennifer
Mar 25, 2025 路 Jennifer StanleyOur sweet Dolly had an accident on the farm. Due to our vet being a travel large animal vet and her still being young we hadn鈥檛 gotten her established at a vet yet. We walked in with her and they immediately took her back with no hesitation. Treated us with compassion as we awaiting results. Luckily after an overnight stay Dolly was able to return home. She will be returning to HTV for the rest of her care.

Apr 14, 2025 路 Patrick KellyIt was an unfortunate visit鈥攎y senior dog was reaching the end of her life and the staff was very, very kind and supportive.
