Started coming here 3 years ago when my cat was peeing out of the box and urinating straight blood. I had been to other local vets, including emergency visits and never received a solution despite paying thousands for testing. This vet suggested a prescription urinary diet before more invasive testing. Cleared my cat’s problem almost immediately. Very nice they only treat cats, don’t have to wait in the waiting room with dogs that always wander from their owners and sniff your carrier. The vet here is so kind and gentle, he does a thorough exam. The vet techs are also very kind. Will keep this as my primary vet even though I moved out of state.

I am so happy to find this amazingly welcoming and professional crew who works exclusively with cats. They have been taken care of my feral sick cat for over 2 years now and I believe that with their help we are keeping on prolonging his life. Barsik, the client of The Cat Practice, loves to go there. Great job and thank you for taking care of Barsik.

I boarded my cat at The Cat Practice 2-3 times. To give some context my cat has asthma and requires an inhaler everyday and a steroid in case of emergency. The first time I boarded my cat he hadn’t been coughing or wheezing for weeks before and when he came back home he was coughing, even though the people at The Cat Practice said he got his medicine reguarly. After crediting it to a “change of scenery” and not thinking much of it, we boarded him again recently (December 27-December 30th, 2024). When we went to pick him up, the man working told us that my cat “refused” his medicine for all 3 days and they didn’t want to “stress him out…” and any time we boarded him there, they would not give him his medicine going forward, saying, “we will not charge you for medical boarding in the future, because we will not be giving him his medicine in the future,” I also suspect they weren’t exactly honest with us the first time about giving him his medicine because of our other experiences. Okay… I am 21 years old, never had had a cat until around a year ago, taught myself how to care for a cat, how to treat my cat with inhalers, steroids, and other medicines to manage his asthma. The fact that a so called professional “medical boarding” facility can’t give my (fairly timid) cat an inhaler and refused to give it to him going forward is appauling, unprofessional, and just flat out ridiculous. I don’t appreciate being lied to when it comes to my cat and having my cat’s health jeopardized for a paid professional’s convenience, especially by a so-called medical boarding facility. Safe to say I won’t be using to The Cat Practice again.

Hands down the best cat vet in NYC! Dr. Eric Dougherty is a kind, experienced, knowledgeable, and compassionate vet, and I felt like my cat was very well taken care of. It was clear that he really cared about my cat and her health. I was previously told that my cat would have to be sedated for a proper check up, but not with The Cat Practice! They handled my pet with care and were able to do her check up with no sedation. Thank you for being such a wonderful vet!
