An absolutely wonderful experience with both the hospital/vet as well as the boarding. I brought Mighty Melvin here for almost 10 years for both services. Dr. Elms and the vet team were terrific, including managing his diabetes, chronic UTI's and various other maladies. He made it 18 years, and the Cat Hospital is a big part of it. The boarding is also terrific. I travel a lot, and never felt bad about leaving my friend with them. In fact, it got to the point where he hopped out of his carrier and walked around like he owned the place. Nice, large multi level "condos," very clean, and the best care. Honestly, it is so nice to have a veterinary and boarding facility in one place, and dedicated exclusively to cats. Thanks to you all, Mighty and I are so grateful!!

This specialization means that every aspect of the hospital, from its waiting areas to its diagnostic equipment, is designed with the comfort and specific needs of felines in mind. This focus ensures a more relaxed and less intimidating experience for cats, which can often be anxious in multi-species veterinary settings.
The environment at The Cat Hospital is consistently praised by clients for its welcoming and calming atmosphere. Imagine walking into a veterinary hospital and hearing only the gentle sounds of purring and friendly voices, with no barking dogs or their associated smells. This specialized setting significantly reduces stress for feline patients, making veterinary visits a more positive experience. The facility is described as very clean, with well-maintained spaces, including their unique boarding "condos." These multi-level units are designed to provide ample space for exercise and feature glass doors instead of cages, offering a more open and less confined feel for boarding cats. They include comfortable amenities like glass goblets for food and water, plush four-poster beds, and an advanced ventilation system to ensure fresh, odor-free air. The innovative design even keeps the litter pan on a lower, separate level, further enhancing comfort and hygiene. This thoughtful attention to detail in their physical environment underscores their commitment to feline well-being.
As a specialized feline "Pet Hospital," The Cat Hospital offers a comprehensive range of services, all geared towards the unique health requirements of cats. Their services include:
Routine Wellness and Preventative Care: This is a cornerstone of their practice, encompassing regular check-ups, vaccinations (including Rabies, Distemper, and Bordatella, often required for boarding), parasite control, and nutritional counseling to maintain optimal feline health.
Urgent Care and Sick Pet Examinations: They provide timely and compassionate care for cats experiencing acute illnesses or injuries, focusing on accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plans.
Advanced Diagnostics: The hospital is equipped to perform various diagnostic tests, including blood work, urinalysis, and potentially imaging services like X-rays and ultrasound, to pinpoint health issues.
Feline-Specific Surgery: A range of surgical procedures is offered, tailored to the unique anatomy and needs of cats, ensuring safe and effective interventions. This includes routine procedures like spaying and neutering, and declawing when deemed appropriate after thorough discussion with the owner.
Comprehensive Dentistry: Oral health is critical for cats, and The Cat Hospital provides dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental procedures to prevent and treat periodontal disease.
Management of Chronic Conditions: As highlighted in client reviews, they excel in managing complex and chronic feline conditions such as diabetes and chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs), providing long-term care and support.
Behavioral Consultations: Understanding feline behavior is crucial, and they offer guidance for owners dealing with behavioral issues, helping to improve the quality of life for both cat and owner.
Senior Cat Care: With an understanding of the unique challenges older cats face, they provide specialized care plans for geriatric felines, focusing on comfort and quality of life.
Boarding Services ("The Cat's Inn"): A truly stand-out offering, their on-site luxury boarding facility, "The Cat's Inn," provides spacious, multi-level "condos" designed by Dr. Paul Wade. The proximity of boarding to the veterinary hospital means that expert feline veterinarians are always close at hand in case of any medical needs during a cat's stay.
Compassionate End-of-Life Care: Dr. Robin Elms also offers in-home euthanasia services through her separate venture, Peaceful Passages, which complements her work at The Cat Hospital, providing a gentle and comfortable transition for beloved pets in their familiar environment.
Several key features distinguish The Cat Hospital as a premier choice for feline veterinary care in the Manchester, Maine area:
Cat-Exclusive Environment: This is their most prominent feature, creating a truly stress-free and specialized atmosphere for cats. The absence of dogs and the tailored environment significantly reduce anxiety for feline patients, which can lead to more accurate diagnoses and less traumatic visits.

Integrated Veterinary and Boarding Services: The convenience of having both veterinary care and luxury boarding under one roof is a major draw for many clients. This allows for seamless transitions between services and provides peace of mind, knowing that medical attention is immediately available if needed during a boarding stay.
Affordable Pricing: Many clients highlight that The Cat Hospital offers excellent care at prices comparable to a small-town vet, standing in contrast to larger, corporate-owned practices that may charge significantly more. This affordability makes high-quality feline care accessible to more pet owners.
Personalized Attention: Clients often mention the personalized attention their cats receive, noting that the staff goes above and beyond to provide individual care and comfort, whether for a routine vaccination or managing a chronic illness.
While specific, flashy promotions may not be advertised, The Cat Hospital's primary promotional strategy revolves around its exceptional reputation, specialized care, and client satisfaction. May 16, 2025 · peter marchesiI am so glad I found this place! The Vet and staff are wonderful and so caring to the animals! I first brought my cat who needed stitches and they were very compassionate, so much so that I scheduled my other 2 cats to have their shots and nails done. The prices are of a small town vet, not one of these places that is corporate owned that charge you triple of what you should be paying. Hoping she doesn’t retire soon or brings on another vet to continue the wonderful care that she and staff provide.
Apr 06, 2025 · Kat O'NeilI had an amazing experience at the Manchester cat hospital! The staff was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, taking the time to answer all my questions and explain everything in detail. They truly care about their cat patients and go above and beyond to provide the best care. I felt confident my cat was in the best hands, and I appreciated how informative and compassionate everyone was throughout the visit. I highly recommend them to any cat owner looking for a trustworthy and caring vet!
Mar 25, 2025 · BriI’m going to start this off by saying if I could give less than 1 star I would! I brought my cat in for a swollen paw and limping. As soon as I get there the older vet was extremely unprofessional and rude. I basically get yelled at for being an “unconcerned” and “lazy” owner just because I don’t not feed my cats processed wet food due to it causing them bowel issues. She lectured me about how my cats need wet food or unseasoned human food after I already explained that I feed them chicken, hamburger, salmon, and tuna with dry food. As the appointment goes on they try to draw blood from my cat without full sedation for a solid 30 minutes, traumatizing my cat. Then decided to sedate him after all that, which ended up sending my cat into a freak-out. As my cat is freaking out and I’m trying to calm the cat down, the same older rude vet decided it was a good time to tell me about her experiences with “tripping” and taking “lsd” “back in the day” which made me extremely uncomfortable and upset that her focus wasn’t on my animal. They offered to keep him over night for free due to the meds he had “needed” were coming in the AM. I said I would be back around 4pm after work. When I arrived it was 10 mins until I was brought to my cat which was followed by another 15 mins before the vet came to get me from the room. Finally when I met with the vet I waited another 20 minutes (without my cat) while she started to package up the meds for my cat in an area that was extremely unsanitary. She then explained my cat still needed one more med orally and that she would go do that then bring my cat to me. They bring out my cat gagging and puking in a cat carrier saying it is “normal”. Which we sat there for another 10 mins while she finished packing up the meds. After I finally got my cat and his medicine, I proceeded to wait another 30 mins to pay ( my cat is still puking, gagging and crying in the carrier) while the vet decided to walk off and have just “everyday conversations” with customers I assume were friends. When I finally go to pay, which wasn’t super cheap, under my breath I say “jeez”, a very normal reaction to a big bill. I then followed by asking simply if they offer payment plans. To which she replied to very rudely “only for well established customers. what!? You have a problem with paying? I am very happy with how I charge” and just continued to be rude and try to almost make fun of me like I didn’t have enough money to pay. I then payed the bill and walked out. As I was walking out that same vet says “hope to see you again and hear from you” again in a rude tone while laughing. I would never recommend this place to anyone! Honestly disgusting!
May 23, 2025 · Evan AckleyThese people are AMAZING! They cared for my leopard gecko and did everything they could, and even though she didn’t make it, I am very thankful for the amazing people here. They were so compassionate and supportive. Not only this, but they barely charged me! I now know where to go for any future leopard gecko needs.
