The doctors and staff are wonderful. My dog is very stubborn and set in her ways and is a 14 + Corgi German shepherd mix. We rescued her 13 years ago and she’s literally afraid of everything. She’s a great dog, never does anything wrong but she can be difficult so I appreciate the extra care that she is given at Suburban Animal Hospital.

The environment at Suburban Animal Hospital is characterized by an atmosphere of extra care and understanding, particularly for pets that may be anxious or difficult. As highlighted by a client with a "very stubborn and set in her ways" Corgi German Shepherd mix who is "afraid of everything," the hospital excels in providing the necessary patience and specialized attention. This indicates that the staff is well-versed in handling diverse animal personalities and takes proactive steps to ensure a less stressful experience for sensitive pets.
While specific facility details like separate waiting areas are not mentioned, the focus on individualized care suggests that the hospital is designed to accommodate various pet needs. The overwhelming sentiment from client testimonials points to a clinic where the doctors and staff are "wonderful," providing both excellent medical care and empathetic communication. This human-centered approach ensures that pet owners feel calm, informed, and confident in the care their pets receive. The smooth and successful recovery of a dog named Cooper after surgery, coupled with excellent communication from the staff, Dr. Boehmer, and Dr. Levy, further solidifies the impression of a supportive and highly competent environment.
As a comprehensive "Pet Hospital," Suburban Animal Hospital offers a wide array of veterinary services designed to support the health and well-being of companion animals throughout their lives. Their offerings likely span preventive care, diagnostic capabilities, surgical interventions, and ongoing medical management. While a detailed list of every service is not provided, typical services at a reputable animal hospital would include:
Wellness and Preventive Care: This forms the foundation of good pet health and would include routine physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations, robust parasite control programs (fleas, ticks, heartworm, intestinal parasites), and tailored nutritional counseling. Regular check-ups are crucial for early disease detection and prevention.
Diagnostic Services: A modern veterinary clinic is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools. This typically includes an in-house laboratory for rapid analysis of blood, urine, and fecal samples. They would also likely offer radiography (X-rays) for internal imaging, aiding in the diagnosis of orthopedic issues, organ abnormalities, and foreign bodies. Further diagnostics might involve partnerships with external laboratories for specialized testing and consultations.
Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and long-term management of various internal diseases affecting organ systems such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and endocrine system. This involves a systematic approach to complex and chronic health conditions.
Surgical Procedures: The hospital is equipped to perform a range of surgical procedures. Client feedback explicitly mentions surgery (e.g., Cooper's successful operation), indicating proficiency in this area. Common procedures would include spays and neuters, tumor removals, and wound repairs. More complex soft tissue or orthopedic surgeries may also be performed or referred based on the specific case and the clinic's specialization.
Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are essential for overall pet health. This typically includes professional dental cleaning and polishing, dental extractions, and other oral surgical procedures.
Pain Management: Strategies for managing both acute pain (e.g., post-surgical) and chronic pain (e.g., arthritis) are crucial for enhancing a pet's quality of life.
Emergency and Urgent Care: While not a 24/7 emergency clinic, a full-service hospital like Suburban Animal Hospital would manage urgent cases during its operational hours, providing immediate care for acute illnesses or injuries and stabilizing pets before potential referral to a specialized emergency facility if needed.
Behavioral Counseling: Guidance and support for common behavioral issues, helping pet owners understand and address problems such as anxiety, aggression, or house-training challenges.
Pharmacy: An on-site pharmacy provides convenient access to necessary medications, preventatives, and therapeutic diets.
The most significant distinguishing feature of Suburban Animal Hospital, as highlighted by client reviews, is the exceptional level of personalized and empathetic care, particularly for pets that require extra patience and understanding. The ability to handle a "very stubborn" and "afraid of everything" dog with "extra care" speaks volumes about the staff's dedication and skill in managing challenging patient temperaments. This patient-first approach fosters a deep sense of trust and appreciation from pet owners.
The communication practices of the hospital are also a strong feature. Clients consistently praise the "excellent" communication before, during, and after surgical procedures. This transparency and proactive information sharing are crucial for alleviating owner anxiety and ensuring they are fully informed about their pet's health status and recovery. The specific mention of Dr. Boehmer and Dr. Levy by name in a positive review highlights the individual impact of the veterinary team and suggests a high level of confidence in their expertise and compassionate approach.
The clinic’s success in achieving positive outcomes, such as a dog returning "as his old, albeit shaved, self" after surgery, demonstrates their clinical effectiveness. This combination of medical proficiency, patient-centered care, and clear communication creates a consistently positive experience for clients, leading to strong recommendations.
While specific promotional offers or discounts are not detailed in the provided information, Suburban Animal Hospital's primary "promotion" comes from its outstanding reputation and strong word-of-mouth referrals. The glowing testimonials from satisfied clients, who emphasize the "wonderful" doctors and staff and the "extra care" given, are incredibly powerful marketing tools. These authentic endorsements speak volumes about the quality of care and the positive client experience.
The continuity of care, as indicated by a client who rescued their dog 13 years ago and continues to bring her to Suburban Animal Hospital, demonstrates a high level of client loyalty. This long-term relationship building is a testament to the consistent quality of service and trust established over many years. The positive experiences shared by clients, particularly regarding the handling of sensitive pets and the success of complex procedures like surgery, reinforce their standing as a highly reputable and reliable veterinary care provider in the Rochester community.
In essence, Suburban Animal Hospital leverages its exceptional standard of care, empathetic approach, and strong client relationships as its most effective form of promotion. Their commitment to making both pets and their owners feel comfortable, informed, and respected solidifies their position as a trusted partner in animal healthcare.

May 22, 2025 · Kenneth GrothThe staff has been excellent in both the care that our Cooper received for his surgery as well as the communication before, during and after his surgery. He went home as his old, albeit shaved, self! Thank you to Dr. Boehmer, Dr. Levy and all the staff there that assisted!
Oct 19, 2024 · August FlotteronI've been to quite a few different vets over the years and this has to be one of the best. The waiting room, examining room, and bathroom were all very clean. Sadly, they had 5 euthanasia's happening and it kept them busy and understandably not very happy. With that said, the wait to check in, be seen, and check out was done in a timely matter. The staff were wonderful. My senior cat is not a happy girl when she has to be seen. Dr. Howard was patient with both of us lol, kind, caring, gentle, soft spoken, and did everything he could to make our visit as pleasant as possible. My niece takes her dog here and has always been very grateful for their incredible care. I would highly recommend SAH!
Feb 12, 2025 · Lisa DeBerger WheelerI just want to take a moment to give kudos to Dr. Levy. She is an amazing Doctor, and always anticipates her client’s and patient’s needs. My senior dog loves her to!!
Jan 11, 2025 · Jonny O'DonnellThe people there are very nice to work with. They are knowledgeable and did a thorough job checking our dog. Plus we were able to book our appointment in a short amount of time.
