This is an update to my review below: Nine months have gone by since Dr. Leshem operated on Yulee. I'm thrilled to report that Yulee is doing great and so thankful that we decided to have the procedure, but more importantly have Dr. Leshem do it. I attached the photo of Yulee and his little brother Buddy to demonstrate that Yulee's life has resumed to normalcy and even though we have to remain cautiously optimistic, I'm confident that if we don't take unnecessary risks his life will continue to be better than if we opted not to choose to have the surgery. Every time we leave the river and drive by Dowd Avenue, we yell out the window, "Thank you Doc Leshem!" PS - Yulee is a certified therapy dog at CCMC, has resumed his regular visits and his story resonates with many of the little friends he visits with. ================================================= My five year old Leonberger (a big guy) recently experienced aspiration pneumonia. This was a direct result of a genetic disorder in Leos and other breeds that is called laryngeal paralysis. Because I had another dog that required surgery to remedy this problem I knew what I had to have done for him. I had heard from good friends that they had the utmost respect for Dr. Steve Leshem and his surgical abilities so when my regular vet highly recommended I bring my dog to Steve I never hesitated. Steve diagnosed my Leo's condition, confirmed his LP and rather than say, "Let's operate!" he felt the prudent thing to do was to wait for cooler weather to see how he would respond. That in itself impressed me because I always ask my vets, "What would you do if this were your dog?" I didn't have to ask him that because my intuition was that Steve already considered Yulee "our dog". We were a team. That last sentence illustrates one of Dr. Steve's many strengths...he is a great listener and values the clients feelings and fears. However as time progressed my wife and I decided we didn't want to postpone the inevitable surgical intervention primarily because we were having such a tropical autumn in Connecticut which was not ideal for Yulee's condition. Yulee was operated on a month ago and today was running and playing with his friends. We can't thank Dr. Steve enough and would never hesitate in recommending him when surgery might be a viable consideration.

Jun 17, 2019 · Leo DogsDr Steve Lesham and his fantastic team, took great care of Jerry. A hereditary gene caused ACL tears to both knees, requiring repair 3 months apart. Our concern with needing both done so close together, was quickly addressed by Dr. Lesham. His outstanding skills gave our Jerry the knees a 4 year old dog should have. Soon Jerry will be back to running, as he loves to do. After a bit of research we knew Lesham was the best Dr. to do this surgery. We drove in from the New Haven area for the surgery, well worth the trip. If your in need of an orthopedic surgeon for your dog I recommend Lesham Vetrinary Practice.
Jan 08, 2019 · Stephanie CabralAlthough I have not been to his practice as of late. Dr Leshem did 2 ACL surgeries and both minicus on my Akita’s back legs 6 or 7 years ago. He was so good with my boy and I have never forgotten the compassion and empathy he felt for us. His symptoms started in November and our regular vet did all he could but after months of no improvement our vet sent us too a specialist. Dr Leshem had us walk our dog and instantly knew what the problem was. After months of guess work and thinking the worst he assured us within one visit that it was fixable. I have nothing but respect and admiration for him.
Nov 09, 2020 · Teresa WalshDr. Leshem was great! He rearranged his personal schedule to do emergency surgery on our little dog. He removed her gallbladder and saved her life. For this we are so grateful. He was also excellent following the surgery, making himself available by phone and text. Throughout the very difficult two week period he was very caring, very professional and, obviously, very skilled. We give Dr. Leshem the highest rating and cannot thank him enough for saving our little girl!
Aug 09, 2018 · Laura O'SullivanOur dog Tulip is a rescue ( and not the best patient). However, Dr. Leshem was fantastic from the start and put us at complete ease. The surgery was flawless and we were updates various times during the procedure. I have never written a vet review but feel this is necessary. The staff is very focused, kind, and competent. I feel very lucky to have found this place. Thank you!!!!
