I am so thankful to Dr. Kantor who saw our 2 dogs Bear and Barney with emergencies. Our vet doesn't take emergency calls and to go to an emergency clinic, when you have a limited income is devastating. God bless Dr. Kantor who truly is a very caring person who not only loves animals but loves people too.

The information available for South Towns Equine, particularly through the lens of client experiences, points to a veterinary practice that prioritizes effective care and client support over grand physical facilities. While specific details about the clinic's physical environment aren't provided, the consistent theme of affordability and accessibility suggests a practical and efficient setup. The fact that Dr. Kantor sees emergencies for both horses and dogs implies a versatile facility, equipped to handle a range of animal sizes and medical needs. Whether this involves on-site clinic visits or potentially ambulatory services for horses, the operational model emphasizes getting necessary care to animals efficiently. The willingness of clients to travel "nearly 2hrs from the office" speaks volumes about the clinic's reputation, indicating that the quality of care and the character of the practitioners are paramount, overshadowing any concerns about proximity. The core philosophy seems to be about "keeping it real, caring, and affordable," which translates into a pragmatic and client-focused environment.
South Towns Equine offers a range of veterinary services, characterized by their adaptability and deep commitment to animal well-being. While their name points to an equine specialization, their demonstrated willingness to treat other species, especially in critical moments, showcases a broader veterinary capability. Key services and care aspects highlighted by customer reviews include:
- Emergency Veterinary Care: A standout service is their readiness to accept emergency cases for animals beyond horses, as demonstrated by Dr. Kantor seeing two dogs, Bear and Barney, with emergencies. This is a critical offering, especially for pet owners whose regular veterinarians don't provide emergency services or who face financial constraints when considering typical emergency clinics. Their ability to step in during such high-stress situations highlights their unwavering dedication to animal life.
- Equine Veterinary Expertise: Given the name "South Towns Equine," their core proficiency undoubtedly lies in providing comprehensive care for horses. This would typically encompass a wide array of services including preventative care (such as vaccinations and deworming), lameness evaluations, dental care, reproductive services, and internal medicine. Their strong recommendation from a "fellow 'horse person'" further solidifies their standing and expertise within the equine community.
- General Companion Animal Care (Dogs and More): While their name specifies "Equine," the testimonials clearly indicate they extend their veterinary services to dogs, including emergency care. This suggests a broader scope of practice than the name might initially imply, making them a valuable resource for owners of various pets. This extended care could include routine exams, vaccinations, and treatments for common ailments in companion animals, reflecting a holistic approach to veterinary medicine.
- Diagnosis and Treatment of Complex Conditions: The high level of trust placed in "Doc" (Dr. Kantor), as evidenced by his agreement to see a "very, very ill 13yr old Springer female" on a Saturday morning as new clients, suggests robust capabilities in diagnosing and effectively treating severe or complex medical conditions.
The consistent emphasis on the "caring" nature of Dr. Kantor underscores a practice where the well-being of the animal takes precedence, regardless of the specific service being provided.
South Towns Equine, particularly through the leadership and philosophy of Dr. Kantor, exhibits several key distinguishing features that make it stand out in the veterinary field:
- Profound Compassion and Empathy: Dr. Kantor is consistently lauded as a "very caring person who not only loves animals but loves people too." This dual empathy for both pets and their owners creates a supportive and understanding environment, which is especially crucial during stressful emergency situations or when clients are facing financial difficulties.
- Exceptional Accessibility and Affordability: A truly remarkable and frequently highlighted feature is the practice's willingness to provide high-quality care even when clients have a "limited income." The commitment to "affordable" care without compromising medical standards is a significant and highly valued trait, making essential veterinary services accessible to a broader demographic of pet owners. This stands as a major competitive advantage.
- Broad Scope of Emergency Care: The readiness to accept emergency cases for animals not explicitly within their namesake (like dogs), demonstrates an expansive commitment to animal welfare that transcends typical specialization boundaries. This flexibility and responsiveness make them a crucial backup for pet owners.
- Unwavering Dedication and Responsiveness: The anecdote of seeing a critically ill dog on a Saturday morning, even as new clients, showcases an extraordinary level of dedication and willingness to help. This proactive and highly responsive approach to veterinary care builds immense trust and loyalty.
- Deep Trust and Client Loyalty: The fact that clients are willing to travel "nearly 2hrs from the office" and state they "cannot imagine trusting our pets' care with any other vet" is a powerful testament to the profound trust and reliability that Dr. Kantor and South Towns Equine have cultivated among their clientele.
- Realistic and Practical Approach: The description of "keeping it real, caring, and affordable" suggests a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to veterinary medicine. This prioritizes effective solutions and genuine care, avoiding unnecessary complexities or excessive costs, which resonates deeply with pet owners.
These features collectively establish South Towns Equine as a truly unique and invaluable resource in the veterinary community, embodying a practice that is not only medically proficient but also deeply humane and committed to its community.
The client testimonials serve as the most potent and authentic promotional material for South Towns Equine, painting a vivid and compelling picture of their core strengths:

It showcases their practical and compassionate benefit to the community.
- Demonstrated Geographical Reach and Loyalty: The fact that clients are willing to travel significant distances (nearly 2 hours) is an extremely strong endorsement of their superior quality and perceived irreplaceable value. Sep 06, 2024 · Gloria KellyFirst met Doc a couple years ago after he was recommended by a fellow "horse person". As new clients my wife and I were thankful and very relieved that he even agreed to see our very, very ill 13yr old Springer female on a Saturday morning. This is a remarkable man running a remarkable practice and keeping it real, caring, and affordable. We live nearly 2hrs from the office, but I cannot imagine trusting our pets' care with any other vet. Kudos, Doc! You're truly "One of a kind".
