Reading the website, I was so excited a clinic could provide so much. I was referred to them by a vet as they could provide more. Unfortunately, even though their website looks amazing, they don't offer most of what is described. Some of their reception staff is very unhelpful and not knowledgeable at all (he told me Dr. Mooney didn't work there anymore...a review from 5 days prior was talking about how great Dr. Mooney was...). Maybe they have great regular care, definitely not what is described on the website. Their communication is less than desirable as well.

As a Pet Hospital, South Mesa Veterinary Hospital likely offers a range of veterinary services essential for the health and well-being of pets. These typically include routine check-ups, vaccinations, preventative care, diagnostics, and treatment for illnesses and injuries. One customer review mentioned being referred to them for more specialized care, suggesting they might offer a broader scope of services than a general practice. However, the same review also noted a discrepancy between what the website described and the actual services offered, advising potential clients that they "don't offer most of what is described" online.
Despite this discrepancy, another review offered high praise for a specific veterinarian, Dr. Mooney, highlighting her gentle and thorough approach, her knowledge, and her ability to put both the pet and owner at ease. The reviewer also appreciated Dr. Mooney's "holistic perspective." This positive feedback suggests that at least some of the veterinary staff are highly competent and caring. The reviewer did suggest that a written visit summary with medication and treatment recommendations would be a valuable addition for pet owners.
The first review also mentioned some reception staff being "very unhelpful and not knowledgeable at all," citing an instance of incorrect information provided. This indicates a potential inconsistency in the level of service and knowledge among the front office staff. The reviewer also noted "less than desirable" communication overall.
Considering the general nature of a Pet Hospital and the specific feedback from these reviews, South Mesa Veterinary Hospital likely offers services such as:
- General wellness examinations
- Vaccinations
- Treatment for illnesses and injuries
- Surgical procedures (the extent of which is not specified)
- Dental care (not explicitly mentioned but common in pet hospitals)
- Diagnostic services (implied by the need for more specialized care)
- Potentially a holistic approach to care, at least with some veterinarians like Dr. Mooney.
Features of South Mesa Veterinary Hospital that can be gleaned from the reviews include the presence of knowledgeable and caring veterinarians like Dr. Mooney, who takes a gentle and holistic approach. However, a potential drawback seems to be the inconsistency in the helpfulness and knowledge of some reception staff, as well as potential discrepancies between the website's claims and the actual services offered. The suggestion for written visit summaries indicates a possible area for improvement in client communication.
Details about the specific environment of South Mesa Veterinary Hospital are not provided in the reviews. Typically, a veterinary hospital would include examination rooms, a waiting area for pet owners, and possibly surgical suites, diagnostic imaging areas, and a laboratory. The reviews do not offer any specific insights into the ambiance or facilities of this particular clinic.
There is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided text. Pet hospitals sometimes have introductory offers for new clients or promotions on certain services. To learn about any such offers from South Mesa Veterinary Hospital, local users would need to contact them directly or check their website, keeping in mind the reported inaccuracies of the website's service descriptions.
For local users in Fort Collins, CO, considering South Mesa Veterinary Hospital, it would be wise to note the contrasting experiences shared in the reviews. The positive feedback regarding Dr. Mooney suggests that some of the veterinary care is excellent. However, the concerns about the accuracy of the website information and the helpfulness of some reception staff should also be taken into account. Potential clients might want to:
- Call them at (970) 226-6526 to inquire about the specific services they need and verify if they are indeed offered.
- If possible, request appointments with veterinarians who have received positive feedback, such as Dr. Mooney.
- Be prepared to potentially take notes during consultations, as written summaries are not standard practice according to one reviewer.
- Assess their own interaction with the reception staff.
In conclusion, South Mesa Veterinary Hospital in Fort Collins, CO, functions as a Pet Hospital. While it may offer a wide range of services, at least one customer has pointed out discrepancies between the website's claims and reality. The quality of veterinary care, particularly from individuals like Dr. Mooney, seems to be a strong point, but there may be inconsistencies in front office service and communication. Local pet owners should do their due diligence by directly inquiring about the services they require.

Apr 01, 2025 · Desariah BarrettDr. Mooney was terrific. She put me and my dog at ease immediately, getting down on the floor with Reo and doing everything on his level. She was kind and gentle. Very thorough and knowledgeable. She answered all questions. I appreciate her holistic perspective as well. Thanks for a great experience. One suggestion: a written visit summary with med/treatment recommendations would be a valuable addition (for those of us not savvy enough to take notes). ☺️
Mar 14, 2025 · Mike TowbinI used to love this place. I have been coming here for years. It has become very expensive compared to other vets. They wanted 300 dollars more than other vets for a senior panel. I was told my dog had a grade 4 heart murmur, alos. Pet Cardia looked at him, and it wasn't near a grade 4. It also felt like I was being lectured by the tech. She gave very long explanations of things I already understood. For example, stating my dogs need to be licensed with Larimer Co. They ARE already LICENSED with Larimer Co, and she kept me longer telling me of the consequences of not being licensed. I have a toddler, and it just prolonged the visit and made it very frustrating. When I switched vets, South Mesa made it very hard for my records to be transferred. My new vet called, emailed, and called again to get my dogs records. Finally, I had to call and ask. It delayed my dog getting the care he needed. This once wonderful place has just changed. It almost has a controlling vibe now. I wouldn't recommend South Mesa anymore.
Feb 17, 2025 · SarahYou know how you take your pet to the Vet's office and in the put of your stomach there is a feeling of distrust? You NEVER feel that way at South Mesa. I never feel pressured to do something that seems frivolous. I have seen multiple of their veterinarians. All of them have great "bedside manners". They take time to educate you and answer all questions. We have been taking our dogs to South Mesa for about 4 years. It feels good to find a Vet that doesn't treat your pet like a money bag! They treat your pet like it is their pet!
