Welcome to South Austin Cat Hospital
For cat owners in Austin, Texas, the South Austin Cat Hospital, situated at 11215 S I-35 Frontage Rd UNIT 109, Austin, TX 78747, USA, stands as a distinguished and highly recommended institution within the "Pet Hospital" category. This practice uniquely specializes in feline care, providing an environment and services meticulously tailored to the specific needs and sensitivities of cats. The glowing reviews from real customers consistently praise the staff's dedication, the high quality of care, and their ability to create a comfortable and stress-free experience for feline patients and their owners.
The environment at South Austin Cat Hospital is a paramount feature, specifically designed to be a "comfortable, quiet, low-stress environment for both clients and patients." Unlike general veterinary clinics that cater to a variety of animals, a feline-exclusive hospital significantly reduces potential stressors for cats, such as the sights, sounds, and smells of dogs. This focus on a cat-centric environment is crucial for making veterinary visits less intimidating. The facility is likely equipped with feline-friendly waiting areas, featuring cat trees, elevated perches, and perhaps even Feliway diffusers (synthetic feline pheromones) to promote a sense of calm. Exam rooms are designed to be quiet and serene, minimizing sensory overload. The hospital's commitment to being a low-stress, no-declaw, AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners) Gold Standard Cat Friendly Practice further underscores their dedication to creating an optimal environment where cats feel safe and less anxious, leading to more accurate examinations and better overall health outcomes.
South Austin Cat Hospital offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services exclusively for cats, ensuring specialized and informed care. Their offerings typically include:
Feline Preventative Care and Wellness: This includes routine wellness examinations, tailored vaccination protocols based on a cat's lifestyle and risk assessment, and comprehensive parasite control (internal and external). They focus on proactive health management to prevent diseases and promote long-term well-being, including nutritional counseling specific to feline dietary needs and weight management programs.
Advanced Feline Diagnostic Services: The hospital is equipped with in-house laboratory capabilities for rapid and accurate blood tests (CBC, chemistry panels), urinalysis, and fecal examinations. They also utilize advanced diagnostic imaging such as digital radiography (X-rays) and potentially ultrasonography, allowing for precise diagnosis of various feline health conditions. These tools are crucial for understanding internal organ health and identifying pathologies.
Feline Dental Care: Oral health is critical for cats. Services include professional dental cleanings under anesthesia, dental radiography to assess sub-gingival health, and extractions of diseased teeth. They are committed to preventing and treating periodontal disease, which can have significant impacts on a cat's overall health.
Feline Surgical Procedures: The hospital performs a range of surgeries specific to feline needs, from routine spays and neuters to more complex soft tissue surgeries. Their surgical suite is equipped with modern anesthetic monitoring equipment and dedicated surgical staff to ensure the highest level of safety and care before, during, and after procedures. Pain management is a priority for surgical patients to ensure a comfortable recovery.
Internal Medicine for Cats: They specialize in diagnosing and managing various internal diseases common in felines, such as kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, and respiratory issues. Their expertise in feline-specific conditions allows for more accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
Senior Cat Care: Recognizing the unique health challenges of aging cats, the hospital offers specialized wellness programs and diagnostic screenings for senior felines, focusing on early detection and management of age-related conditions to enhance their quality of life.
Behavioral Consultations: Given their feline focus, they are well-equipped to address common feline behavioral issues such as inappropriate urination, aggression, anxiety, and compulsive behaviors. They can offer guidance and develop management plans to improve a cat's home environment and reduce stress.
Humane Euthanasia and Bereavement Support: Clients mention the staff's compassion, indicating that the hospital provides empathetic support and guidance during the difficult process of saying goodbye to a beloved cat.
Several key features distinguish South Austin Cat Hospital, making it a highly recommended choice for feline owners. Firstly, its status as a "feline-exclusive veterinary practice" is a significant advantage. This specialization means that all aspects of the hospital, from the equipment to the staff's training, are geared towards cats, fostering a deeper understanding of feline physiology, diseases, and behavior. The presence of Austin's only board-certified feline specialist on staff further elevates their expertise, offering a level of specialized knowledge rarely found in general practices.
Secondly, the hospital's adherence to "Fear Free" principles is explicitly highlighted in client reviews. The team "go above and beyond at every interaction to ensure the kitties have a fear free visit." This means the staff are trained to recognize and alleviate signs of fear, anxiety, and stress in cats. They utilize techniques such as gentle handling, positive reinforcement (treats and toys), calming pheromones, and a patient-centric approach to minimize restraint and make veterinary visits as positive as possible. This commitment to emotional well-being complements their medical expertise, creating a truly holistic care experience.
Thirdly, the staff's exceptional communication and thoroughness are consistently praised. Clients note that the team keeps them "updated on everything happening with your kitty and are super thorough when going through aftercare." This dedication to clear and empathetic communication ensures pet owners feel informed and supported throughout their cat's treatment journey.

Apr 22, 2025 · Sarah ClaypoolThe team at SAHC is truly the best. The go above and beyond at every interaction to ensure the kitties have a fear free visit and receive the best care. I'm so incredibly greatful for the team any we'll be taking our kitties there always.
Aug 12, 2024 · Cecile LeanaEdit: we sadly had to put our youngest down recently due to kidney failure. About a week later I got a card in the mail from SACH, and I'm pretty sure every employee signed it. This is what good people do, and I am so glad I found this veterinary establishment. I've only had good experiences here, but the most recent takes the cake. I had an appointment for my eldest baby later this month, but the other day I woke up and stepped in kitty puke, and found a mound of soiled carpet, very obviously kitty diarrhea. I called to talk to see what to do, and they were willing to take us ASAP for emergency care. And look, I would break the bank for Blair BiggumWiggums. But Brit actually found a slot for a normal visit just a few days away. Later, Brit called me to ask if I wanted a prescription for Blair to help with the gastro issues. She is doing so well. Keeping food down, more active, normal poops. I hope her labs are positive on Monday. Thank you for how much you care about your patients ❤️ EDIT: We found out my eldest has a GI disease. Dr. Breitreiter has taken so much care of us. After months of figuring out treatment, my sweet baby angle is thriving. I don't wanna be too optimistic, but SACH has absolutely made me and Blair's life better.
Apr 21, 2025 · Rachel PhillipsOur cat Jasmine had to have a delicate paw surgery. Dr. Trevino and staff were absolutely amazing from beginning to end. She is recovering without any issues and have come up with a game plan for long term pain management. Thank you for helping our Jasmine live a more pain free happy life!
Feb 12, 2024 · Lisa KI've been taking my kitties here for the past few years and we have always received quality, compassionate care from them. Recently, I took one of my babies in for a behavioral consultation and cannot say enough about how caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and WONDERFUL this practice is. From the actual care we receive, to the atmosphere of the exam rooms, to even the language the providers use to communicate with pet parents, every aspect is extremely thoughtful. Cat people caring for cats and their people. Love this place.
