Small Animal Hospital

Dr. Benigno mills is an angel. This is the best animal hospital I have ever been to. They will truly save your life when you have no hope left. Words can’t even describe how thankful I am for this surgeon, his attitude and way of speaking was just amazing. This is the best care you will ever get.

We came at 9:30pm on a tuesday for an emergency visit and we were met with knowledgeable and compassionate staff. It's a 24 hour vet as well. Unfortunately we had to put our old girl down (she lived a good latter half of her life!), but the process was very smooth, kind, respectful, and explanatory towards the whole process. Costs and options were given up front which was appreciated. I'll for sure be coming here as needed in the future and recommending for urgent pet needs. Thank you guys for helping us out a few weeks ago.

My fiance and I brought our sweet 16.5 yrs. old kitty, Kalimah, in because her condition gradually worsened over a week's time and she had completely stopped eating. They got her in immediately to be examined. After 30 mins., they spoke with us to inform us of what may be going on. The vets were so thorough, compassionate, and spent so much time discussing our options. Sadly, with so many chronic medical issues our cat had, we made the very difficult choice of letting our fur baby girl and our best friend go to the Rainbow Bridge. The vets carefully explained the process of euthanasia and comforted us through the whole emotional ordeal. We're very grateful for their patience and the warmth they showed during such an arduous, sad event. 9/1/2005-3/28/2022 Rest In Purrs, Kalimah. ❤

I am so thankful to have this team as my dogs primary care vet! I’ve had nothing but an amazing experience with them and their team. I enjoy the ability to go back to the room with my dog for her appointments and the team is knowledgeable and compassionate. My dog sees Dr. O’Brien who is so incredibly kind and always explains things exceptionally well. I appreciate their transparency with costs - my pup will be needing a teeth cleaning in the near future and they were very transparent with me that the cost would be higher than other vets, I believe due to them having a veterinary anesthesiologist on staff. I really appreciate the heads up and knowledge they provide. The students are phenomenal as well! I would like to at least give a heads up to those who are unfamiliar with this clinic - this is a teaching facility. The students at the UMN veterinary school gain their practice here and with that, appointments may take longer as to give the students their opportunity to learn. They are always supervised by a licensed vet who will double check anything to be certain, but the students do a fantastic job! I’ve also utilized their urgent care/emergency care option as well (as many pet owners might have to) and it is also nothing short of amazing. My poor pup injured her back a month or two ago and they got us in mere hours later and got to the bottom of her pain right away and promptly got us her prescriptions to help her out. Not to mention, when she had to be given a shot, they took her to the back and met us in the lobby and to my surprise, she was given a UMN Vet bandana “because everyone loves her so much” which brought so much joy to me during a day filled with a lot of stress and worry. I cannot thank this team enough for always going the extra mile. I’m thankful my dog loves going to the vet and I’m always happy to allow them to take any extra time they need to use my pup as a teaching opportunity as I bet it’s fairly uncommon to get a dog that loves the vet as much as mine.

I brought my little guy in because of potential lily exposure and they did a great job taking care of him and getting him home (this experience was 5 stars). Following the ER visit I was instructed by the Doctor to come back in a few days to recheck his kidney values, this cost was $150. Following that visit I was asked to come back in 1 month to check one more time. During my most recent visit I was billed $600. In the room they told me the cost would be $300 which left me confused since the last visit was only $150 but okay. When I checked out I was stunned to find they completely missed the boat on cost and they said it was because it didn't count the appointment. Unfortunate because I trust these vets to do what best for me and my animal. Instead I left feeling like a cash machine for them adding a bunch of services that I was never told was needed. On top of this they recommended additional testing to look at his lungs and heart. This will be my last visit to the U of M small animal hospital. I hope someone sees this there and takes action to improve transparency and stop what I felt was upselling their patients.
