They keep changing the prices, the last appointment I had for my dog was $58 and now for my cat it’s $75. These appointments were within a year and for the same exact regular check up. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s only gotten worse by the appointment.

Welcome to Shelburne Veterinary Hospital

Shelburne Veterinary Hospital, situated at 3053 Shelburne Rd, Shelburne, VT 05482, USA, operates as a dedicated "Pet Hospital" serving the local community with a mission to provide exceptional veterinary care. This facility is recognized for its commitment to maintaining the health and happiness of pets, primarily focusing on dogs and cats, through a comprehensive range of medical services. The hospital aims to be a supportive partner for pet owners throughout their animal companions' lives, from their first visit as young "fur babies" through their senior years.

The environment at Shelburne Veterinary Hospital is designed to be professional, understanding, and welcoming, as reflected in client feedback. While specific details about the decor or waiting areas are not extensively publicized, the emphasis on client satisfaction suggests a clean, organized, and comforting atmosphere. The staff's demeanor, described as professional and helpful, contributes significantly to creating a positive experience for pets and their owners. The physical space is maintained to high veterinary standards, ensuring a sterile and safe environment for examinations, procedures, and recovery, which is fundamental to quality animal care.

As a comprehensive "Pet Hospital," Shelburne Veterinary Hospital offers a wide array of services that cater to the diverse health needs of pets. These services are typically categorized to cover all aspects of animal well-being:

  • Wellness and Preventative Care: This forms the cornerstone of their practice, focusing on keeping pets healthy and preventing disease. Services include regular check-ups and physical examinations, crucial for establishing a baseline of health and detecting any potential issues early. Tailored vaccination programs protect pets from various infectious diseases. Comprehensive parasite control, including prevention and treatment for fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal parasites, is also a key component. Nutritional counseling is provided to help owners choose the best diets for their pets' specific needs, contributing to optimal health and weight management.

  • Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose illnesses and injuries, Shelburne Veterinary Hospital utilizes various diagnostic tools. This includes in-house laboratory services for quick and efficient processing of blood tests (such as complete blood counts and chemistry panels), urinalysis, and fecal exams. These tests provide vital information about a pet's organ function, presence of infection, and parasitic load. They also employ radiography (X-rays) for imaging bones, organs, and identifying foreign bodies, offering essential insights into internal conditions. The availability of these diagnostics on-site ensures timely and precise diagnoses.

  • Surgical Services: The hospital performs a range of surgical procedures, from routine operations to more complex interventions. Common surgeries include spaying and neutering, vital for population control and preventing certain health issues. They also handle soft tissue surgeries like mass removals and laceration repairs. The presence of experienced veterinarians capable of performing "complicated surgeries" indicates a high level of surgical expertise and the necessary facilities for such procedures, including anesthesia monitoring and post-operative care.

  • Dental Care: Oral health is a critical aspect of a pet's overall well-being. Shelburne Veterinary Hospital provides comprehensive dental services, which typically involve professional dental cleanings under anesthesia, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar, and potentially dental extractions. They also offer guidance on at-home dental care to prevent future oral health issues.

  • Behavioral Counseling: Recognizing that behavioral issues can impact the human-animal bond, the hospital often provides basic behavioral counseling and resources to help owners address common problems, promoting a harmonious household.

  • Pain Management: Managing pain is a priority, especially for pets recovering from surgery, suffering from chronic conditions like arthritis, or nearing the end of their lives. They offer various options for pain relief to ensure pets remain comfortable and have a good quality of life.

  • Emergency Care: While primarily a general practice, they are prepared to handle emergency cases during business hours, providing immediate and critical care for pets in urgent need. For after-hours emergencies, they would typically guide clients to specialized emergency veterinary facilities.

Several features distinguish Shelburne Veterinary Hospital, making it a valued resource for pet owners. A recurring theme in client feedback is the highly experienced and knowledgeable veterinarians, with one reviewer specifically mentioning a vet with "decades of experience from the basics to complicated surgeries." This depth of experience instills confidence in pet owners regarding the quality of care their animals receive. The staff, including veterinarians and support personnel, are praised for being professional, understanding, knowledgeable, and diligent in explaining information. The willingness of the staff to "explain information on vaccines to me multiple times so I could register it" highlights their dedication to client education and ensuring owners are well-informed about their pet's health. Furthermore, the overall treatment of clients, described as "well they treated us," contributes to a positive and satisfying experience, encouraging strong client loyalty.

Regarding promotional information and client considerations, a point of discussion has been the pricing of services. While one reviewer noted a perceived increase in prices for routine check-ups, indicating a sensitivity to cost among clients, another expressed pleasant surprise at the "cost of his first visit and how well they treated us." This suggests that while prices may adjust, the perceived value for the quality of care received can still be high. Shelburne Veterinary Hospital, like many modern veterinary practices, likely works to maintain transparency regarding costs and may offer tools or options to help manage expenses. They often accept pet insurance and collaborate with treatment financing solutions like CareCredit to assist clients with unexpected medical costs. This commitment to accessibility helps ensure that pets can receive necessary care without undue financial strain on their owners. While specific ongoing promotions like new client discounts or seasonal offers are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, it is common for veterinary hospitals to utilize such strategies to attract and retain clients. For the most up-to-date promotional offers and pricing inquiries, direct contact with the hospital is always recommended.

Shelburne Veterinary Hospital's operating hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with specific Saturday hours (8:00 AM to 12:00 PM), and they are closed on Sundays. Shelburne Veterinary Hospital is great! They are all very welcoming and remember your pet everytime you come back. They are very cost conscientious which is very much appreciated! They tell you up front what you do and don't have to have in terms of medicines and vaccinations.

Bella Luna is always happy to see her Vet. He is wonderful with her as is the staff. It's the best experience I've had taking my dog for checkups. She's always happy to walk into the office, no whining or pulling away which is awesome as I've had some not so good experiences with my past canines going to other Vets. 10 Stars

They are very welcoming, customer service was great and got a lot of knowledge on birds from the Vet. We did everything the way he said and Banana and Pickles are now snuggly bugs and best friends. I enjoyed this experience very much and so did my daughter. Thank you for everything you all do for not only reptiles, but birds as well.
