It breaks my heart to write this. This clinic was a place I once trusted wholeheartedly—a place I believed would treat my dog as family, just as they claim to do. But in our most vulnerable moment, when my dog passed away, that trust was shattered. When I called the vet on Monday at 11 a.m., not only did they seem unaware that she had passed away, but no one had reached out—not a single condolence, no follow-up, nothing. I understand that miscommunications can happen between the ER and the primary vet, and I want to give the benefit of the doubt. But when a pet you’ve seen regularly, who you claim is "part of your family," dies over the weekend, and the doctor doesn’t prioritize calling the ER first thing Monday morning—that says a lot. My dog had bloodwork done just a couple of weeks before everything happened. The results showed a lower level that was dismissed as not concerning at the time, with a note to recheck in a month. Given her history of severe skin allergies, I can’t help but wonder—what if they had taken it more seriously? What if they had seen her as more than just another patient? I brought my dog in frequently, stayed on top of her care, and devoted time, energy, and emotion into ensuring she was okay. I expected the same level of care and commitment in return. Unfortunately, she wasn’t treated with the dignity she deserved at the end. That said, I do want to acknowledge the individuals who did make a difference—Dr. Kuenast and J'Nai were always kind, attentive, and compassionate. Their care meant the world to us, and I’m deeply grateful for them. I truly hope the clinic reads this and takes a moment to reflect on how they handle emergency cases—and more importantly, how they support grieving families. Pets are family, and in times of loss, empathy matters more than ever.

As a dedicated "Pet Hospital," Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness offers a wide range of services aimed at maintaining and improving the health and well-being of your pets. Understanding that pets are integral members of your family, their approach focuses on delivering high-quality medical care with a strong emphasis on empathy and understanding.

Based on available information, the environment at Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness appears to be designed to create a comfortable and reassuring experience for both pets and their owners. While specific details about the clinic's ambiance and facilities are not extensively described online, the mention of "fear-free certified" technicians suggests a conscious effort to minimize stress and anxiety during veterinary visits. This approach is particularly beneficial for pets who may be naturally apprehensive about visiting the vet, ensuring a more positive and cooperative experience.

The services offered at Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness are likely to encompass a broad spectrum of veterinary care, typically expected from a full-service pet hospital. These may include:

  • Routine Wellness Exams: Regular check-ups are crucial for preventative care, early detection of potential health issues, and maintaining your pet's optimal health. These exams typically involve a thorough physical examination, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and discussions about nutrition and lifestyle.
  • Diagnostic Services: When your pet is unwell, accurate diagnosis is key. Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness likely offers various diagnostic tools, such as bloodwork, urinalysis, and potentially imaging technologies like X-rays, to help identify the underlying cause of illness.
  • Medical Treatments: The hospital provides medical management for a wide range of illnesses and conditions affecting pets. This includes prescribing medications, providing supportive care, and developing treatment plans tailored to your pet's specific needs.
  • Surgical Procedures: Depending on the scope of their services, Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness may offer various surgical procedures, ranging from routine surgeries like spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue or orthopedic surgeries.
  • Dental Care: Dental health is an often-overlooked aspect of pet wellness. The clinic likely provides dental services such as teeth cleaning, polishing, and potentially extractions to maintain your pet's oral hygiene and prevent dental diseases.
  • Emergency and Urgent Care: As a pet hospital, they are likely equipped to handle emergency and urgent medical situations. Prompt and efficient care in critical situations can be life-saving for pets.
  • Management of Chronic Conditions: For pets with long-term health issues like allergies, diabetes, or arthritis, the clinic can provide ongoing management, including medication, monitoring, and lifestyle adjustments to ensure a good quality of life.
  • Fear-Free Handling: The mention of fear-free certified technicians is a significant feature. This indicates a commitment to using techniques and approaches that minimize fear, anxiety, and stress in pets during their visit. This can involve gentle handling, positive reinforcement, and creating a calm environment.

Features that seem to distinguish Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness include their focus on a fear-free approach, particularly highlighted in the positive review regarding their handling of an anxious cat. According to this customer, Dr. Braun and her team of fear-free certified technicians have been successful in conducting thorough examinations without the need for sedation, which is a testament to their expertise and gentle methods. The reviewer also praises their thoroughness, attentiveness to listening to concerns, and clear explanations of procedures, indicating a strong commitment to client communication and education.

However, it is important to acknowledge the contrasting experience shared in another review. This customer expressed deep disappointment regarding the lack of communication and empathy shown after their dog's passing. The review highlights a perceived lack of follow-up and condolence, raising concerns about the clinic's handling of end-of-life situations and support for grieving families. While this review also acknowledges the kindness and compassion of specific individuals, Dr. Kuenast and J'Nai, it underscores the importance of consistent and sensitive communication, especially during difficult times.

Based on the available information, Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness appears to strive to provide quality veterinary care with a focus on a fear-free experience for pets, particularly evident in their handling of anxious animals. The positive feedback regarding their thoroughness, communication, and the skills of certain staff members suggests a dedicated team. However, the negative review points to an area where improvement in communication and empathetic support during sensitive times is needed to ensure a consistently positive experience for all clients.

For local users in Round Rock seeking a pet hospital, Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness presents itself as an option with the potential for excellent care, especially for pets who experience anxiety during vet visits. The presence of fear-free certified technicians is a significant advantage. However, it would be prudent for pet owners to consider all available feedback and perhaps inquire about the clinic's protocols for emergency communication and bereavement support to ensure their needs and expectations are fully met.

Sam Bass Veterinary is the best. They manage my hyper anxious cat in a way no other place has been able to. She normally has to be sedated for any vet contact but Dr Braun and her team of technicians who are fear free certified manage to do all of my cats exams without sedation. They are thorough, take time to listen, and explain everything that is going to happen. They have great customer service and are very responsive.

The staff and the doctor were absolutely great with my puppy Charolette. They gave us a goody bag and called to check up on how Charolette was doing. We had an excellent experience with Sam Bass veterinary.

Hands down the best Vet office we’ve ever been to! After being turned down by a different hospital, (even after explaining my dog was displaying concerning symptoms) Melissa right away asked for my information and placed me on hold to ask doctor if it was okay to squeeze our doggy in at 9:30 it was 9:10. Dr. Kuenast said yes and they were able to get our doggy back on track. Ja’nai is the best tech we’ve ever had take care of our boy and made us feel at ease. This office puts all offices we’ve ever been to, to shame. We will be returning for all future check ups and emergencies we might have. We felt heard, and every single option we were given came with thorough explanations of why the exams were needed and what exactly her plan of action was. We were given pricing and weren’t surprised afterwards with extra fees. I can’t stop raving about how great this office and the biggest bonus, there is an enclosed grassy area that gives you peace of mind that your dog can go potty in peace. If you are a dog mom like me that just wants the best for her doggy, choose this place. You won’t be disappointed.

We have been going to this vet for about 5 years and always feel so safe and loved for our two GSPs. They take a lot of care to make sure your pets are comfortable during exams and even follow up after regular visits to see how they are doing. Every time I have needed records or anything they are quick to respond and reach out. We really appreciate this vet and the whole team at SBVW ❤️
