Great vets! I bring all of my reptiles to them and unlike most exotic vets they are very reasonably priced. I always bring my kids with me if it’s their animal being seen because the veterinarian here not only examines your animal but also takes the time to educate you. A couple months ago I brought my bearded dragon in with an eye infection and shed stuck in her eye, the vet taught us how to remove the eye shed and had us do it ourselves. I wouldn’t take my exotic pets anywhere else.

Welcome to River Road Veterinary Clinic

Welcome to River Road Veterinary Clinic, your local Pet Hospital situated at 445 Rte 5 N, Norwich, VT 05055, USA. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive veterinary care for a wide range of animal companions in Norwich, VT, and the surrounding communities. As a Pet Hospital, River Road Veterinary Clinic strives to offer a welcoming and professional environment where your pets receive the medical attention they need, whether they are traditional domestic animals or more exotic species.

River Road Veterinary Clinic distinguishes itself by catering to a diverse range of pets, including reptiles, which, as noted in a customer review, sets us apart from many other veterinary practices that may not specialize in exotic animal care. This specialization suggests a level of expertise and knowledge in the unique health requirements of species beyond dogs and cats. For owners of reptiles and other exotic pets in the Norwich area, River Road Veterinary Clinic offers a valuable resource for specialized veterinary services at what has been described as "very reasonably priced" rates, making quality exotic pet care more accessible.

One of the key features highlighted in a positive customer review is the clinic's commitment to educating pet owners. The veterinarian takes the time not only to examine the animal but also to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge to the owners. This educational approach empowers pet owners to better understand their animal's health and participate actively in their care. For instance, in the case of a bearded dragon with an eye infection and stuck shed, the veterinarian guided the owner on how to safely remove the shed, even having them perform the task under supervision. This hands-on learning experience demonstrates a dedication to client education and fostering responsible pet ownership.

However, another customer review presents a mixed experience. This review mentions a microchipping procedure where the microchip insertion was problematic, requiring monitoring for potential dislodgement. Additionally, the visit for worm treatment and vaccinations resulted in a prescription for worm medication to be purchased elsewhere, with unclear dosing instructions initially provided. The delay in receiving clarification on the medication dosage is a point of concern raised in this review. While this account suggests areas for improvement in communication and procedural execution, it is important to consider all feedback to gain a balanced understanding of the clinic's services.

Considering the available information, River Road Veterinary Clinic appears to offer a range of veterinary services, including care for exotic pets like reptiles, microchipping, vaccinations, and treatment for conditions such as worm infestations. The positive review emphasizes the educational aspect of the consultations and the affordability of exotic pet care. The less positive review points to potential issues with procedural complications and communication regarding medication instructions. It is common for Pet Hospitals to offer a variety of services to address the healthcare needs of different animal species, and River Road Veterinary Clinic seems to be no exception, with a noted specialization in exotic animals.

The environment of River Road Veterinary Clinic is not explicitly described in the provided reviews. However, the positive experience of bringing children along for their pet's appointments suggests a welcoming atmosphere that is comfortable for families. A veterinarian who takes the time to educate clients, especially children involved in their pet's care, likely fosters a patient and approachable environment within the clinic.

Regarding services, based on the reviews, River Road Veterinary Clinic offers:

  • General veterinary examinations for various animals.
  • Specialized care for exotic pets, particularly reptiles.
  • Microchipping services.
  • Vaccinations.
  • Worm treatment (though in one instance, this involved a prescription to be filled elsewhere).
  • Client education on animal care and treatment procedures.

The feature of reasonably priced exotic pet care is a significant advantage for owners of these animals in the Norwich area. The commitment to educating pet owners during consultations is another valuable aspect of the service provided at River Road Veterinary Clinic, empowering clients to be more involved in their pet's health management.

Got Smokey microchipped it got stuck when they inserted it and was told to keep an eye in case it backs out. I went there for worm treatment and shots etc. Ended up 260$ and nothing done except given a prescription for the worm medicine to go buy else where. There was no dosing written just 3 pills but I didn't know when or how often to administer. Took them a few days to get back to me about it.. like I hope future visits go along better

This was the worst “grooming” I have ever paid for. I recently moved to the area and called around for a local groomer for my terrier. The secretary at River Road assured me they had a professional groomer. I brought her in and told them I wanted her shaved. They asked if I needed her bathed too which I thought was strange - I’m my experience a grooming contains both a bath and cut. I told the groomer to shave her because of her matting. She asked if I wanted to keep her fluffy and I said if possible, sure but that I doubted she would be able to brush her out since she hates to be brushed. She said it would be about 1.5hrs. 3hrs later they said she was done. I picked her up in a rush because I had to get to a meeting. As I was paying I found out that the bath cost $50 and the cut was charged by the minute totaling $176. I hadn’t thought to ask if they would charge by the minute because I have never once encountered that before. When I got home I looked at her closely and was horrified. Instead of shaving her like I asked, they attempted to brush her, cut her unevenly, and shaved her to the skin in random spots. She looks horrific and still has a lot of matting all over. We called back immediately asking for a refund and were told that the doctor who could handle that was out. This morning we called back and were met with rude, aggressive dismissal and 3 doctors who refused to listen to the problem or offer any solutions. They hung up mid conversation and won’t pick up the phone. As someone new to the area this was a terrible welcome. I’m not sure what to do now.

When my teacup poodle fell down some stone steps and hit her head, it became clear something bad happened. I needed to go to an Emergency Vet immediately. I was a 35 minute drive away and was SO grateful that Dr. Chris Dutton came in after hours. He was very professional and helpful and clearly cared about animals. It's that kind of service to the community that makes River Road Veterinary Clinic an excellent place to bring your pets.

I cannot sing the praises of this place any higher. In an effort to not drone on I will bullet the things that stand out about this incredibly special veterinary practice: + The vets are knowledgeable, compassionate, thorough and patient. They take their time with each animal and make you feel like they genuinely care about the health and well being of your pet + They do not charge you for extra BS. My dog had a surgery for an unknown mass, it turned out to be a benign tumor. They cut the anticipated cost in HALF because the surgery ended up being simpler then they originally anticipated. I was full expecting and willing to pay the original amount, but felt so appreciative that they charged ONLY for the necessities. This alone is hard to find if not almost impossible in today's health care climate both for humans and animals + They are easy to book appoi tents, after care, nothing is hard to manage with them I feel so lucky to have this practice close by and will be bringing any pet I have here without a doubt!
