I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the care provided to my cat, Shadow, who tragically passed away on October 30th, shortly after celebrating her first birthday on October 5th. Shadow was treated by Dr. Hawley and his staff on October 18th, following a series of concerning symptoms. Despite assurances that she would recover, her condition deteriorated rapidly. Initially, she seemed stable, but soon she stopped eating, became lethargic, and sought solitude. By the day before her passing, she had lost significant weight and was displaying alarming symptoms, including vomiting digested blood and having cold paws. I acknowledge that we did not seek further help at that critical moment, largely due to concerns about the high costs associated with veterinary care and previous experiences with the Humane Society that did not provide the support we needed. Unfortunately, our prior interactions with Dr. Hawley’s office left us skeptical about the effectiveness of their treatments, as a previous ear issue was inadequately addressed. In light of this experience, I feel compelled to share my concerns about the quality of care provided. It is my hope that no other pet owners have to endure a similar experience. (The pictures I have provided below are after her treatment from the afternoon (in her carrier) and the night of (with the teddy bears in the background) within 1&1/2 week after.)

The available customer reviews for Prospect Veterinary Clinic present starkly contrasting experiences, highlighting the importance of considering multiple perspectives when evaluating a veterinary care provider. One review expresses profound grief and concern regarding the care provided to their cat, Shadow. This detailed account describes a series of concerning symptoms leading to the cat's tragic passing shortly after her first birthday. The reviewer recounts seeking treatment from Dr. Hawley and his staff for Shadow's initial symptoms but reports a rapid deterioration despite assurances of recovery. The timeline of Shadow's decline, from seeming stability to severe lethargy, loss of appetite, and alarming symptoms like vomiting blood, is particularly distressing. The reviewer also mentions a reluctance to seek further critical care due to concerns about high veterinary costs and previous negative experiences elsewhere, coupled with skepticism about the effectiveness of Dr. Hawley's treatments based on a prior inadequately addressed ear issue. This deeply concerning narrative underscores the importance of thorough and effective diagnosis and treatment, as well as clear communication and trust between the veterinary team and pet owners.

Conversely, another customer shares a highly positive experience with Dr. Hawley regarding the treatment of their dog, Pink's, infection. This reviewer praises Dr. Hawley's "amazing" approaches, which led to a quick recovery. Notably, they also commend Dr. Hawley's consideration for the financial aspect of veterinary care, appreciating the provision of treatment options that accommodated their financial situation without pressure to choose the most expensive course of action. This customer expresses such satisfaction that they drive over an hour to see Dr. Hawley and intend to bring their other pets to him as well, emphasizing his genuine care for animals as if they were his own. This positive feedback suggests that some pet owners have experienced compassionate, effective, and financially considerate care at Prospect Veterinary Clinic.

Given these significantly different accounts, local pet owners considering Prospect Veterinary Clinic as their "Pet Hospital" face a complex decision. The positive review highlights a caring and effective veterinarian who is mindful of financial constraints, which are crucial factors for many pet owners. However, the deeply concerning review detailing the tragic loss of a young cat and expressing doubts about the quality and effectiveness of care cannot be ignored. It raises questions about diagnostic accuracy, treatment efficacy, communication with pet owners, and the overall standard of care provided in certain situations.

As a "Pet Hospital," Prospect Veterinary Clinic likely offers a range of essential veterinary services to address the health and medical needs of pets. These services typically include:

  • **General Wellness and Preventative Care:** Routine check-ups, vaccinations, parasite prevention, nutritional counseling.
  • **Diagnostic Services:** Physical examinations, laboratory testing (blood work, urine analysis), and potentially imaging such as X-rays.
  • **Medical Treatment:** Management of illnesses and injuries through medication and other therapies.
  • **Surgical Procedures:** Routine surgeries like spaying and neutering, as well as other surgical interventions as needed.
  • **Dental Care:** Examinations and teeth cleaning.
  • **Emergency and Urgent Care:** Addressing immediate health concerns, although the extent of emergency services might vary.

The positive review mentions the successful treatment of an infection, indicating the clinic's ability to handle medical issues. The negative review implies a situation where the initial diagnosis or treatment approach for a serious condition may have been insufficient, or communication about the pet's deteriorating condition was lacking. Without further information, it is difficult to ascertain the typical environment of Prospect Veterinary Clinic. A well-regarded pet hospital should ideally provide a clean, comfortable, and reassuring environment for both pets and their owners, contributing to a positive and stress-free experience.

Features of Prospect Veterinary Clinic, based on the limited information, appear to include having Dr. Hawley as a practicing veterinarian. The positive review emphasizes his considerate approach to financial matters and his perceived genuine care for animals. However, the negative review raises concerns about the effectiveness of treatments and communication. Transparency in communication, thoroughness in diagnosis, and effective treatment protocols are critical features of a trustworthy "Pet Hospital."

Currently, there is no promotional information available for Prospect Veterinary Clinic in the provided reviews. Many veterinary clinics offer introductory discounts for new clients, seasonal specials, or packages for routine preventative care services. In conclusion, Prospect Veterinary Clinic in Frederick, MD, functions as a local "Pet Hospital" serving the community's veterinary needs. The available customer reviews offer drastically different perspectives, with one praising the caring and financially considerate approach of Dr. Hawley, while the other recounts a deeply upsetting experience involving the tragic loss of a pet and expresses concerns about the quality of care and communication. Local pet owners considering Prospect Veterinary Clinic should carefully weigh these contrasting experiences and may wish to seek further information or perhaps a preliminary consultation to assess whether the clinic's approach and standards of care align with their expectations and their pet's specific health requirements. The significant disparity in the provided feedback underscores the importance of thorough research and open communication when choosing a veterinary care provider for your beloved animals.

Dr. Hawley has been amazing to my dog Pink and I. His approaches on my pups infection were amazing and it very quickly got better. He is also very considerate of the financial strain vet bills can be. He gave me options so I didn't feel pressured to choose the most expensive one and while I did it is nice to know that he wanted to give me the option instead of just presenting me with a big bill. We drive over an hour to come see him and he will also be seeing my other pets from now on too. You can tell her really treats your pets like they are his own. Can't say enough kind things.

Dr. Hawley and his staff have been treating my pet for the past 9 years. I’ve never had a dog get so excited to go to the vet. Their prices are very reasonable and they discuss all treatments with me in detail prior to anything being done to my pet. I couldn’t imagine taking my dog any where else.

Top notch service, care for my dogs and prices. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with the Doctor, techs and front desk staff. I feel that they know my dogs and I don't feel as if my dogs are a number amongst several other customers. Scheduling is easy and they are so great to me meeting my hectic scheduling needs! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Dr. Hawley & his team are nothing but the best! They provide excellent patient care from day one to day done, and want the best health for your pet every day in between. The local humane society recommended Prospect to me because they offered the most affordable services, but their value goes way beyond what they save in your wallet. Reception is always warm & welcoming, the techs love your pets just as much as you, and Dr. Hawley goes above & beyond his duty as a vet to make sure your loved one gets the best care possible. Although I will not be back to visit them because they recently performed a beautiful end of life service for my dog, I highly recommend them for anyone who wants to have many healthy years with their pet.
