Welcome to Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital

Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital, located at 115 Circle Dr, Poteau, OK 74953, USA, is a well-established and highly respected "Pet Hospital" serving the Poteau community and surrounding areas. Established in 1971, the hospital has a long-standing history of providing dedicated and compassionate veterinary care, evolving into a premier destination for animal health. Currently owned and operated by Dr. Kristy Tackett, who acquired the practice in 2019, Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital continues its legacy of excellent small animal veterinary medicine, primarily focusing on canine and feline patients.

The environment at Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital is designed to be welcoming, clean, and comfortable for both pets and their owners. The facility has been at its current location since 2001, suggesting a well-maintained and purpose-built space. Customer testimonials consistently praise the staff for their kindness and wonderful demeanor, contributing to a positive and reassuring atmosphere. The hospital likely features a well-organized reception area, private examination rooms, and specialized areas for diagnostics, surgery, and possibly recovery or boarding. Dr. Tackett and her team take pride in keeping the clinic clean and inviting, aiming to make clients and their pets feel like an "extended family." This commitment to a friendly and caring environment helps to alleviate the natural anxieties pets and owners might experience during a vet visit.

Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive suite of veterinary services, addressing a wide range of needs for small animal companions. As a full-service "Pet Hospital," their offerings include:

  • Preventative and Wellness Care: At the core of their practice, Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital emphasizes preventative medicine to ensure the long-term health of pets. This includes routine wellness exams, which are crucial for monitoring overall health and detecting potential issues early. They provide tailored vaccination protocols to protect against common and dangerous diseases, as well as comprehensive parasite prevention programs (e.g., for heartworm, fleas, ticks). Nutritional counseling is also offered to help pet owners provide optimal diets for their pets' specific life stages and health conditions.
  • Diagnostic Services: To facilitate accurate and timely diagnoses, the hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic capabilities. A significant feature is their in-house laboratory, which allows for rapid bloodwork, urinalysis, and other diagnostic tests. This is particularly important for critical and reproductive care, as results can often be obtained within a few hours or less, rather than waiting until the next day. This efficiency enables prompt treatment decisions. Additionally, they offer general X-ray services (digital radiography) to examine pets' internal body systems, aiding in the diagnosis of various conditions, from skeletal issues to organ abnormalities.
  • Surgical Procedures: Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital performs various surgical procedures. Common offerings include spay/neuter services, which are fundamental for population control and preventing certain health issues. Beyond routine procedures, they are equipped for general surgery, with Dr. Tackett having specific interests in wound care and soft tissue surgery, as noted in her background. Pet owners should confirm the specific range of complex surgeries offered by calling the clinic.
  • Dental Care: Maintaining good oral hygiene is vital for a pet's overall health. While specific details on dental services are not extensively listed, a comprehensive pet hospital typically provides professional dental cleanings, oral examinations, and addressing dental diseases to prevent systemic health problems caused by poor oral health.
  • Reproductive Care: The clinic offers reproductive care, indicating they can assist with aspects of breeding and pet reproduction, supported by their in-house lab for quick results crucial in such care.
  • Urgent Care: For non-life-threatening but urgent health concerns, Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital strives to accommodate pets during their operational hours. While they are not a 24/7 emergency clinic, they are equipped to handle acute issues and provide timely assessment and treatment when needed.
  • End of Life Care: The hospital provides compassionate end-of-life care, offering humane options and support to pet owners during challenging times.
  • Microchipping: As a standard safety measure, microchipping services are available, providing permanent identification to help reunite lost pets with their families.
  • Boarding: Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital also offers boarding services, providing a safe and supervised environment for pets when their owners are away.

Several features distinguish Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital. The long-standing history of the clinic, established in 1971, speaks to its deep roots and trust within the community. The leadership of Dr. Kristy Tackett, an Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine graduate with experience in internal medicine, wound care, and soft tissue surgery, ensures a high level of expertise. The consistent praise from customer reviews highlights the compassionate and caring nature of the entire staff, with clients remarking on their "nicest people" and "amazing" attitudes. The reasonableness of their pricing is also a recurring positive comment, making quality veterinary care accessible. The in-house lab is a significant advantage, enabling rapid diagnostics, especially critical for time-sensitive conditions. The clinic's accessibility, with hours typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with a shorter day on Wednesday, 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM), and contactable via phone at (918) 647-4145, makes scheduling and reaching them convenient for pet owners.

Regarding promotional information, while Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital does not widely publicize specific, detailed ongoing promotions on general search results, veterinary clinics commonly offer various incentives to attract and retain clients and encourage preventative care. The people who work here are absolutely amazing. I started going here in 2020 and I wouldn't go anywhere else. It isn't about the money to them, they actually care about animals. I'm very thankful to them and all they have done for me and my sweet Leonidas. They did everything they possibly could to help provide him comfort and prolong the inevitable and for that I'll always hold this place in high regard. Thank you to the people who work here that provide tremendous service and for being real, honest, and above all else, caring. You all are awesome and I couldn't have asked for a better team of people to help us through everything.
